Whumptober 2025 - Day 4 - Frostbite
A runnaway, or an abandoned? They are not dressed for this weather, that's for sure.
thief whumpee who gets caught in whumper's house. instead of calling the police, whumper takes matters into their own hands and makes whumpee work off their debt
I think we need to acknowledge back pain in whump
Tied up Whumpee with an extremely tight back, muscles strained in a way that they should not be. Even when untied, too sore to function
Winged whumpee unable to rest their wings and is suffering from the weight.
Having no access to a proper bed resulting in difficulty sleeping and further difficulty moving without pain
Whumpee so weak they aren't able to stand up, stuck on their back/side for so long it starts to hurt
Caretaker massaging Whumpee's back and finding it's as hard as a rock (bonus points if they are forced to feel the texture of the scars)
Whumper making Whumpee do physical labor resulting in Whumpee having improper form and suffering because of it
Whumpee with their arms hanging above their head, trying not to pull muscles when they relax for a moment
Disabled Whumpee having pain from their prosthetic not being perfectly even
Disabled Whumpee when they use a cane/wheelchair/mobility aid for too long
Just like... back pain. I think we forget it a lot

The trope of a character being totally incapacitated/overwhelmed by pain is living rent free in my mind rn.
Like all they can do is scream or cry, it hurts so bad they can’t even form words. They might be shaking or hyperventilating, breath hitching if another wave of pain hits them. They can’t stop the tears flowing down their face. Caretaker/team tries to soothe them but nothing works—they don’t even respond.
Or, maybe they do, but its a quiet, pleading “please, make it stop,” between cries. Maybe they beg. “Just shoot me.”
Caretaker/team probably wouldn’t know how to respond. “We’re trying,” they say. Or, “No. I won’t do that.”
The whumper rolling the whumpee over with their boot. Pressing their steel toe under the whumpee’s ribs. Kneeling on the whumpee’s chest while mocking them for not being able to get a word out.
When the carefree/comic relief character gets whumped
When they finally go quiet, so you know it's serious
When they tried to laugh through the pain, teeth bloody and eyes full of tears, but they try anyway
When someone insults them, telling them all the things they hate about them, thinking they'll just clap back with a clever insult as they always have. But for once, they don't say anything
When they laugh at first, trying to hide the pain, but it quickly turns into crying
When they've gone around the Team, making sure everyone is okay, that they got a smile out of everyone again. Only to collapse in their room, quiet, stoic. Nobody checks in on them.
"Are you okay?" No, no I'm really not. A smile. "Of course!"
When someone they love has been hurt, and they go quiet. "Whumpee?" A smile. "Don't worry, everything is okay." The dangerous glint in their eyes and the calmness in their voice makes it clear what they're about to do.
The silence in the Team after they're gone
Whumper who sees right through them. They insult Whumper, make a joke about it all, and Whumper just calmly observes them. "Ah, the joking to hide all the broken parts inside you. Has that been working well for you?"
When they're rescued and they just make a quick joke to make the situation more lighthearted, but Caretaker can see the pain in their eyes.
When they're rescued, but they're so injured and scared that they can't make a joke, making Caretaker realize how serious it is

Five Types of Living Weapon Whumpees
The guard dog -> loyalty has been ingrained into their bones, following their handler around like their shadow. No one dares stand against the organization because of the legendary dread surrounding this living weapon. They hardly say a word but every movement is calculated, eyes always darting, always watching. (“You always were their lapdog.”)
The loose cannon -> dangerous for both sides. Always talking back and never predictable, their value is dependent on their skill. If it wasn’t for that, they’d be dead a long time ago. Their loyalty is earned, not bought. No one wants to be on their bad side, walking on tip toe whenever they show up. And they enjoy it. (“What’s everyone looking at? Aren’t you happy to see me? I even brought my rifle!”)
The broken down -> most common type of whumpee I’ve seen. They’ve been overpowered and forced into the commission. They hate their handler more than anything else but see no way out. When they’re told to shoot, they don’t even blink. It’s always “yes, sir” this and “yes, sir” that. If they feel any sympathy, they don’t show it. They’ll do anything to avoid punishment and flinch at quick movements. Nothing they face on the field is worse than the cards they’ve been dealt. (“I understand, sir/ ma’am. I-I’m sorry.”)
The dissenter -> Usually recruited into the organization or joined as a last ditch option. Not necessarily against using their abilities or skill, they just hate being told what to do. As time goes on and their disobedience is punished over and over again, they grow reluctant. Bitter. With every order, they slip in a snarky comment. Roll their eyes. Anything to assert their own identity. Or what’s left of it. (“ah ah ah, you didn’t think i’d notice? The middle finger was a bit much. I’m afraid it will have to go.”)
The ghost in the machine -> known only by their codename by outsiders and by their number in the organization, they’ve been stripped of all humanity. They live, breathe, and think by their handlers orders. They’ve been told over and over again that they are just a weapon. And a weapon does what it’s told. Their anonymity is attached to the organization in the same way a gun is simply an extension of their arm. But at night they still stare up at the ceiling with a blank stare— did they ever a life before this? They can’t remember. (“It’s not like it’s a person. It doesn’t have feelings like that.”)
Caretaker at the whumpee's bedside, reassuring them that they're still here every time they stir but Whumpee's only half-conscious and thinks it's Whumper saying it
Reading whump like
whumpee being afraid of questions.
whumpee being afraid of yes/no questions, never quite sure of the right answer.
whumpee being afraid of open-ended questions, their mind so broken they have a hard time finding the proper words to form an eloquent answer.
whumpee being afraid of questions.
Whumpee who successfully gives false information to prevent their captors from torturing them.
But then their captors finally cross-reference the info and find out they’ve been lied to. Whumper is *pissed.*
Whumpee receives a beating that rivals all the sessions they’d avoided, combined.
that odd feeling when whumpee is staring at the room they know they'll die in
