Being scared makes you miss out on good photos. It's also a really great way not to fall off the top of the Plataforma Sur at Monte Alban. Pero no risk, no reward. Yes, I had to be talked into standing on this tiny wall because sitting meant I was a whole lot less likely to lose my balance and fall over the edge. Part of traveling alone is being uncomfortable, and maybe finding a new comfort zone. In this case the discomfort wasn't in wearing my swimsuit. It was in taking and now sharing this picture. I've got back fat and dimply thighs, and I honestly just don't care anymore. Monte Alban's Plataforma Sur rises about ~131 ft and is reached by climbing a set of very steep stone steps. Even though this is a #unescoworldheritagesite you're allowed to climb the platform. The climb is can be tough if you're out of shape like me, but the panoramic views are worth every huff and puff. Last week I mentioned nearly having a meltdown due to my most annoying travel fail during the trip 🤦🏾‍♀️. I wanted to visit Hierve el Agua, like it was on my list of things as a must do. I did not visit Hierve el Agua 😭. I waited too long to book my tour and it was full. The internet had me thinking I could easily go it alone. They lied. I couldn't even find the collectivo to take me to Mitla. No Mitla = no Hierve el Agua. When the taxi driver didn't know where I needed to be, I audibly whined and was this close👌🏾 to bursting into tears of pure frustration. Of course he's like no no no, don't cry, and I'm 2 seconds away from letting off a bilingual stream of invectives that would have shamed a sailor . We finally found the general area for the collectivos and I thought I'd made it. Nope still no collectivos to Mitla plus it was a shady looking alley way. At that point it was getting hot, my head was hurting, and I was hungry. I gave up and went to find food. I was so upset that I ended up calling my Mom so I wouldn't lose my 💩 in public. And that ladies, gents, and non-binary individuals is the fail that tried to ruin my Oaxaca trip. I think you should #gettoknowme better. Yesterday I mentioned having an anxiety attack in the middle of Miami Int. Airport. That's a thing for me. I have an anxiety disorder which nicely compliments my Major Depressive Disorder🙄. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One thing I'm extremely passionate about is removing the stigma surrounding #mentalhealthissues when it comes to Black communities. That's why I'm telling you this. I want to talk about it, and it kind of impacts how I travel. It's also a lot of the reason that I started to travel in the first place. I wanted to beat it, so I started trying to overcome the lies I knew my mind told me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now that I'm older I understand that I don't leave my illness at home just because I got on a plane. I can still become overstimulated and end up having an anxiety attack. I still shouldn't drink more than ~1 drink a day because it can depress my mood. I still have insomnia, and jet lag probably gave me the best sleep I've had in years😂. I can still go on adventures, and be spontaneous. I'm okay as long as I have general structure. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ All that means is you might not ever see any so I just hopped up and went to XYZ posts from me, but that you'll always see me being myself. This week on #travelfailtuesday Nassau and the 3 day cruise from hell. The cruise itself was fine, but this trip let me know I'm not a group travel kind of girl. Things started with me having a full-blown anxiety attack in the middle of MIA because the people I was traveling with debarked before me and proceeded to leave me behind. I had no idea where they were and initially no one was responding to texts or calls.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you've ever had an anxiety attack, you know a busy airport is a bad place for one. Someone eventually realized it might be pertinent that I know wtf they went, and I was able to wheeze my red faced teary-eyed self down to cruise check-in. Time for #travelfailtuesday 🤦🏾‍♀️. This week's travel fail is my getting sick just as I left Barcelona. Exhausted, freezing, and completely congested, I ended up wrapped in a blanket scarf and a puffer vest in one of the sleeping rooms of the lounge. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Flying for 8+ hours with a sinus infection was not fun. When I landed in New York all I wanted was to go to bed, and I was grateful for the overnight stay.
