Chris Alfaro is Free the Robots; the beat maker/ dj known for his unique sound, hinting at jazz, blues, psych, electronic, and hip hop, while remaining un-genre-fiable. Using everything from dusty, obscure samples, mind-warping analog and digital synths, and live instruments, his dirty drums and progressive melodies blend everything together into sonically rich compositions. His ever-evolving, imaginative sound breaks free from any boundaries and flows away from robotic monotony: freeing the robots. Based out of Santa Ana, CA, Free The Robots started as a side project by Alfaro in 2003, while also playing with different bands, producing MC’s, and DJing full time. Having worked with so many different styles of music, Free the Robots brought everything together under one roof, allowing for further exploration in sound.
As one of the pioneering artists to come out of LA’s beat movement, Free the Robots continues to expand minds around the world with his lineup of original recordings and energetic live performances, sharing stages with the likes of DJ Shadow, Prefuse 73, Flying Lotus, The Glitch Mob, and Afrika Bambaataa. http://www.freetherobots.tumblr.com/ http://www.soundcloud.com/free-the-robots • LEFTO (Brownswood Recordings/ Blue Note, Belgium) •
As one the most important tastemakers Europe has to offer, and affiliated with labels Brownswood, Blue Note, !K7 Records, Stones Throw and Jazzy Sport, this bearded early riser is consistently a couple steps ahead of your average early adopter. He doesn't wait for the next thing to land on his lap, actively seeking it out - just take a peek at his playlists on Belgium's foremost national radio station Studio Brussel which received compliments from Rough Trade Shops and Gilles Peterson.
However, don't assume that he's only working futuristic angles - no sir. Firmly rooted in jazz and hip hop, he sharpened his digging sensibility working at the now legendary Music Mania record store in hometown Brussels. His passion for jazz resulted in a remix album for Blue Note which was well received by the community. Lefto is forever moving forward but always has an ear in the past. Famed for his gloriously eclectic DJ sets, he switches effortlessly between hip hop, funk, breaks, neck-snapping beats, future bass, South-American influences, bruk riddims and some wild African rhythms. He's not only a deejay and producer but also curates his own stage at the Dour Festival and his own nights in Gent in collaboration with Democrazy.
World renowned, LeFtO regularly blesses sound systems from Tokyo to Seoul and Singapore to New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. He has been a resident deejay for Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Festivals since 2008 around the world. Camera under the arm, he is also one of the few deejays on this planet who can deejay somewhere and have a nice movie on the internet a couple hours later, with over 250 videos on YouTube and Vimeo, it's very impressive. The travels resulted in the Worldwide Family Vol. 1 compilation on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings with partner in crime DJ Simbad in 2011. In 2012, he has put out two compilations, one for American brand 101Apparel and the other one for Universal Music. http://www.lefto.be/ http://www.mixcloud.com/leftooo

TOKIMONSTA LIVE!
Born and raised in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, TOKiMONSTA (Jennifer Lee) was an unfocused pupil of classical piano. However, she has come to use this background to create vast textural soundscapes by utilizing live instruments, percussion, digital manipulation, and dusty vinyl. Through the creation of beats, she is able to fuse vintage sounds with progressive styles into something unique.
TOKiMONSTA tours the world regularly as a live performer. Her performance is engaging as well as intricate—using new technology with pieces of musical and multimedia gear. She participated in the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy in London in 2010. In the summer of 2012, she was apart of the Full Flex Express tour, the first electronic music themed train tour that traveled across Canada with Skrillex, Diplo, Pretty Lights, and Grimes. She performed on the very first SS Coachella, which is Golden Voices’ first ocean cruise festival. Some notable past performances were at Coachella, Sonar Barcelona, DEMF, WMC, Electric Zoo, SxSW, Camp Bisco, Decibel Festival, with more scheduled in the future.

LADIES FIRST: ELISABEE
Studio and radio producer, but first and foremost a DJ, Elisa has experienced club culture from pretty much every angle.
Live at BLACK MARKET for an all-girl night with SOULFLOWER and THE ZOMBETTES!
She first got into DJing in 2007 after getting her architecture degree and her first set of decks. At the time she was still living in her native Sardinia, which – apart from beach parties and boring winters – provided a fertile ground for her to experiment with electro house, UK garage and hip hop, as well as reggae and dub. After moving to Milan in 2009, it wasn’t long before she started making her mark on the city’s flourishing club scene. A collaboration with Giant Bass – a big party and promotion – quickly led her to share the decks with big names and to play at huge parties such as Magnolia Parade Festival and 1st of May fest in Milan, as well as DJing all over Italy alongside His Majesty Andre, Toddla T, The Bloody Beetroots, Nic Sarno, Crookers, Bart B More to name but a few.
At the end of 2010 she started her own party Beelicious with a view to promote upcoming international producers and DJs, such as Highbloo and Tom Staar – both playing in Italy for the first time.
Stay tuned for upcoming tracks!

THE DROP: SUPERPOZE
The first performer in a series of French cultural events lined-up for 2014, Superpoze is a composer and beatmaker praised by audiences in many festivals in Europe such as les Vieilles Charrues, Festival de Montreux, and les Transmusicales.
Barely in his twenties, Superpoze’s trademark is a well-crafted alloy of harmonious chords, jerky vocal loops, beats and basses.
BAKUNAWA: Febris of Love
Buwan-Buwan is a traditional Filipino game that enacts the lunar eclipse. Players draw a circle on the ground representing the moon, and must stay inside this circle. Meanwhile, one player acts as the Bakunawa, the mythical giant sea serpent who would eat the moon: he may not enter the circle, but must touch another player who is inside it in order to switch places.
You may catch gigs hosted by BuwanBuwanCollective at Black Market once a month. Follow them on Facebook for more updates
