How People Occupy Space (Body Language)
˙⋆✮ Leaning in slightly when genuinely interested without realizing it
˙⋆✮ The way someone physically turns their body away mid-conversation
˙⋆✮ Crossing arms not out of coldness but because it feels safer
˙⋆✮ That one person who always finds the wall to stand against at parties
˙⋆✮ Mirroring someone's posture when comfortable with them
˙⋆✮ The slow backward step when a conversation goes on too long
˙⋆✮ Tilting the head when something doesn't add up
˙⋆✮ Sitting on the very edge of a chair when ready to leave
˙⋆✮ The way someone's feet point toward whoever they actually like in a group
˙⋆✮ Leaning back and crossing ankles to signal comfort and ownership of space
˙⋆✮ The unconscious open-palm gesture when telling the truth
˙⋆✮ Standing slightly outside the circle and never fully entering it
˙⋆✮ The way someone physically shrinks in a loud argument
˙⋆✮ Turning the whole body to listen rather than just the head
˙⋆✮ That very specific stillness that means someone is about to cry
˙⋆✮ Raising shoulders toward ears when stressed without knowing it
˙⋆✮ The way laughter changes someone's whole skeleton
˙⋆✮ Touching the face when lying or searching for an answer
˙⋆✮ The shift in weight from foot to foot when bored
Purge: Five of Wands
For this purge we drew tarrot cards and this is what I got. This scene is a continuation from this fic. I could only finish this part but the intent is that they have their first argument as friends! Tags: Childhood friends, Same Age AU, ship: tomarrymort! Word Count: 606 words ~~~~~~~~~
Three years later... Harry has become very good at sneaking.
After his first "escape" to the world outside the fortress, Harry has figured out what excuses to make and the general schedule of the Order meetings, for that was the best time, Harry thought. He has also taken up serious flute playing, not only to lull Fluffy to sleep, but also to show off to Tom.
The thought of his best friend makes the days cooped up in the manor bearable. Since the day Harry swooped in to save Tom from his uncle, Harry still can't believe that man is his uncle, Tom at first only wanted Harry around so that Harry could teach him how to use a wand and perform magic.
The Order have arrived, and by the looks of it, it's another big meeting.
Harry hears Moody's rough voice in the drawing room, Sirius arguing with his dad and Remus and Peter about broom prices, and his mother telling somebody that if they track mud through her carpets again they may leave immediately.
Nobody notices the young bespectacled boy slinging a cloak around his shoulders and singing a tune to the Cerberus. Later, he creaks the trapdoor open and rushes towards the rune door that can only be opened by Harry's or another Potter's touch.
Blue lights ignite as soon as Harry steps forward. They ripple along the walls one after another, guiding him towards the far door. He runs the last stretch, his trainers scraping the stone.
Harry grins. He's carrying a heavier sack than usual. He has smuggled some of Uncle Regulus' books and thought that would be something Tom would like.
He jogs down the familiar path. Their footprints have long since worn away the grass, and the roots that once caught Harry's feet now seem to bend out of the way.
Their place waits beside the river, a small cave they have coined the Snake's Den. Harry has decided that he's cool with snakes.
Tom sits upon the largest rock with a book balanced across his knees.
Harry slows down and tiptoes closer to his friend. Once he gets behind him, he prepares his best jump scare.
Before Harry can attempt the act, Tom says calmly, "You aren't trying to scare me again, are you?"
Harry's raised arms deflate.
"How do you do that?" He takes a seat beside Tom.
Their little hideout is always tidy. Harry drops his bag and, unable to wait, pulls out the tome he's wanted to show Tom for ages.
"I smuggled this from my Uncle Regulus. I can't decipher the cover, but I know this word says secrets."
"Secrets of the Dark Arts," Tom whispers.
His brown eyes shine, and he sits upright. In more modest clothing, Tom still looks ever more studious and prepared to devour a good book. Harry is super pleased that this is all because of his doing.
Tom rifles through the book.
"It has so many interesting nuances regarding the Dark Arts."
"Yeah, we can learn about it together."
Harry has accelerated in his learning thanks to Tom.
"Though I think Uncle Regulus was planning on destroying this book. Can't know why."
Tom opens the book to one of the pages showing black hands coming out of the land.
"Look, it's a spell to create Inferi."
"What were Inferi again?" Harry frowns, beginning to doubt the book he brought today.
"Corpses of people animated to perform your bidding."
"Oh, haha, that's interesting. We aren't…" Harry scratches his cheek. "It doesn't mean anyone should attempt it."
Tom gives him a look, and it's that look Harry dislikes. It means Harry has said something that, in Tom's opinion, is stupid. It also means they are both beginning to prepare for an argument. To be continued...
If you're a new writer and you're asking yourself "is this too personal, is this too much, will people think this is weird" that feeling is the exact location of your actual voice. The stuff that makes you want to close the laptop is the stuff nobody else could write. The safe version is always worse. Always. I have never once read something and thought "this would have been better if it was a little less honest." go further. It's always go further.
Your purpose in life is not to love yourself but to love being yourself.
If you goal is to love yourself, then your focus is directed inward toward yourself, and you end up constantly watching yourself from the outside, disconnected, trying to summon the “correct” feelings towards yourself or fashion yourself into something you can approve of.
If your goal is to love being yourself, then your focus is directed outward towards life, on living and making decisions based on what brings you pleasure and fulfillment.
Be the subject, not the object. It doesn’t matter what you think of yourself. You are experiencing life. Life is not experiencing you.
Thank you this is the first post about self love that hasn’t made me want to throw things
Tips for Writing Injuries! (AGAIN)
Your action hero just got shot in the shoulder, stitched it up in a motel bathroom, and is now running through a forest. I need you to know that a shoulder wound severs muscle, nerves, and sometimes bone, and the human body's response to that is not "mild wincing followed by full range of motion." here is what injuries actually do to peoplee...
⊹ Adrenaline is REAL and it does allow people to do extraordinary things immediately after injury, BUT it is a loan, not a gift. you borrow the function and you pay it back later with interest. Your character might genuinely be able to run for twenty minutes after being stabbed. and then the adrenaline drops and everything the body was delaying arrives all at once. the collapse is NOT weakness. it's biology collecting its debt. write the debt collection. it's more interesting than the heroic sprint anyway.
⊹ Blood loss changes cognition before it drops you. you don't go from "fine" to "unconscious." you go through a whole middle stage of confusion, poor decision-making, emotional dysregulation, a strange calm, tunnel vision, difficulty forming sentences. Your injured character making a bad call, saying something they normally wouldn't, becoming suddenly and inexplicably gentle--that's blood loss. use the middle stage. it's dramatically rich and almost nobody writes it.
⊹ Recovery has a timeline and the timeline is long and boring and inconvenient to plot. a broken rib takes six weeks and during those six weeks sneezing is a genuine emergency. a concussion means no screens, no reading, no bright lights, and symptoms can persist for months. a stab wound to the abdomen means weeks of infection risk, limited mobility, and a specific kind of exhaustion that has nothing to do with sleep. Your character being sidelined and frustrated and useless for a long time is not a narrative problem. it's the story.
⊹ Pain also affects personality in ways writers skip. chronic pain makes people short-tempered and then guilty about being short-tempered. it makes concentration difficult. it makes intimacy complicated, both emotional and physical. a character who was patient and warm before their injury and is now snappy and withdrawn is not a character regression. they're in pain. pain is exhausting in ways that don't show on the outside. the people around them noticing and not knowing how to help is a whole story in itself.
Quick tips for Writing Villains!!
☆ A villain who thinks they're the hero is scarier than one who knows they're evil.
☆ Give them something they love. It makes everything worse.
☆ Their logic should make sense, even if their actions don't.
☆ The best villains don't monologue. They ask questions.
☆ Not every villain needs a tragic backstory. Some people are just hungry for power.
☆ Let them win sometimes. Repeatedly, it raises the stakes.
☆ A villain who is polite is more unsettling than one who screams.
☆ They should change the hero just as much as the hero changes them.
☆ Give them a genuine friendship or loyalty somewhere. It humanizes without excusing.
☆ The scariest thing a villain can do is be right about something.
☆ Not every villain needs to die. Some walk away. Some become allies. Some just... disappear.
☆ A villain with a sense of humor is dangerous because you almost like them.

Villain Tropes That I'm BEGGING Writers to Subvert
AGAIN, PLEASEEEEEEE.......
✧ Antagonists who have a point but are also just... kinda annoying about it. Like yes, their manifesto makes sense, but they also chew with their mouth open and keep explaining blockchain at dinner parties.
✧ The "redeemed villain" who's actually super awkward about it. They don't know how to small talk with the heroes. They bring wine to the victory celebration but it's the same cursed vintage they used to poison people with and everyone's uncomfortable.
✧ Evil overlords with imposter syndrome. They're out here monologuing but internally they're like "do I sound evil enough? Should I have prepared notes? Why did I say 'fools' three times in one sentence?"
✧ Henchmen who are just... employed. They have a 401k. They're in this for the dental insurance. They're not even ideologically aligned, they just needed a job and "Minion #4" was hiring.
✧ Villains who lose because of something genuinely stupid and human. Not a fatal flaw or tragic backstory, they just forgot to charge their magical artifact. They got food poisoning the day of the big battle. They sneezed during the crucial spell.
✧ The sympathetic villain who's sympathetic for weird reasons. Not a tragic backstory, they're just extremely relatable. They're evil because they're tired and someone ate their labeled yogurt from the lair fridge one too many times.
✧ Rival characters who are petty but not in a sexy tension way. They're just annoying. They correct the hero's grammar mid-battle. They one-up every story. They're That Person and everyone's tired.
✧ Morally grey antagonists who are self-aware about being morally grey and it's exhausting. "Am I the bad guy? Let's discuss this philosophically for forty minutes while you're tied up."

Purge Fic: Cock-and-bull story
@exquisitetomarrymortpurge
Thanks to grummy mick for the purge prompt: cock-
I'm in a Lucius head space right now, and needed a good giggle. Here you go! 785 words ~
“Severus, Severus, you can’t expect me to believe such a cock and bull story–”
“It’s happened,” Severus said gravely to his fellow Death Eater comrades. “Our Lord has finally lost it.” He raised the glass of firewhisky he’d poured himself before finishing it in one gulp. “We had a good run.”
“This is hasty judgement,” Lucius denied, eying the others gathered in his cellar—Rabastan, Rudolphus, Antonin, and Corbin. Severus poured himself another drink and downed that one quickly too. Lucius grabbed the firewhisky bottle with a chiding frown. “The Dark Lord is the most powerful and intelligent man to have ever walked the earth. We must have faith—”
“There’s no one here to eavesdrop, Lucius. You can admit it—things have gone to the dogs.” Peter squeaked, taking the bottle from Lucius and attempting to down it from the tip. Severus snatched it back quickly to stop him.
“As if I trust my words around two traitors,” Lucius hissed. “I’d be mad to believe anything either of you say.”
“The timing seems suspicious too,” Rudolphus interjected. “Didn’t we have a meeting with him yesterday? He looked normally evil then.”
“And wouldn’t there have been signs before this?” Rabastan added.
“Is this an attempt to swindle us again, Severus?” Antonin said gruffly. “Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice—”
“I was cleared, you know. The Dark Lord was eternally grateful for my service!” Severus said, waving the bottle. “And I don’t say this lightly, but on my honour—”
“You wear the honour of a dead man,” Corbin reminded him, arms crossed. “The only reason you’re alive is because you were vouched for. The brat favours you.”
“Forget it. There’s no convincing you lot. I should have never called you down here.” Snape downed the bottle.
“Severus, stop that!” Lucius tried to grab the bottle again. “At least have something more refined—we’re in my wine cellar, for great magic’s sake.”
“I should probably pour this in my eyes,” Severus groaned. “The image is burned into my retinas!”
“I saw it with my own eyes as well,” Peter admitted. “Both in rat and human form.”
Lucius looked at both Severus and Peter with disgust. “It couldn’t have been that bad.”
Severus hiccupped and wiped his lips with the back of his sleeve. “See for yourself.”
~
Severus was full of shit, Lucius thought as he strolled through the corridors of Slytherin Manor, led by Dobby—once his elf, now the Dark Lord’s. There had been no need to cause such a scene in his home and down all his liquor.
“Master is in the hall, sirs,” Dobby said, leading him through a door where the faint thrum of what sounded like war drums echoed. The more Lucius strained his ears, the more he paled.
Lucius walked in to observe a sight he never thought he would see in his lifetime.
“Five, six, seven, eight!” a young man in bright purple leotards—the pain in every Death Eater’s backside, Harry Potter—began to swing his leg up and spin in front of a mirror. “Come on, Lord Voldemort, the next beat has more power to match the song!”
The room was pounding with obscene Muggle music—I like to move it, move it—and beside the young man, in transfigured robes that were now grotesque silver sequined tights, the Dark Lord had his arms raised and was snapping his chest and legs with such force—
“Lucius!” The Dark Lord spotted him in the mirror, cheeks flushed. “Just the person I need!”
“Sir?”
“We need to recruit Draco. As Harry here says it, he has an unfortunate face card that could have an impact on our future fans.”
“Fans, sir?”
“Keep up, Lucius. My Harry has made me see the light—there are better and more effective ways to spread our propaganda.” He gestured broadly. “Through music and dance.”
“Music… and dance?” Lucius replied weakly.
Harry was behind Voldemort, strutting his chest and moving his hips as if to drive home just how far he had corrupted their Dark Lord.
First it was the infatuation with the boy. Then they had to accept Harry as his equal partner—change some policies. But now this?
“How many more do we need in our group to go viral?” Voldemort suddenly asked Harry. They marched in front of the mirror and began to move to the beat in synchronised motions, thrusting their hips, like pecking cocks—completely unprompted.
“Another three would be nice,” Harry suggested. “If we have five, you can be the centre. Imagine, the first Death Eater boyband to hit the charts!”
“The centre,” Voldemort echoed, staring at his reflection in admiration. His smooth, bald head seemed to shine in acquiescence. “This has got to be your best idea yet.”
Harry grabbed Voldemort’s hand, he seemed to hold him like a prize bull, he smiled—very smugly at Lucius. “I know.”
Basic Fandom Etiquette Everyone Needs to Remember:
Creators do not owe anyone content. Do not ask writers when they will update.
If an author did not ask for [negative] criticism , do not give criticism.
Read the tags carefully before reading a fanfic.
If you ignored the tags and were upset, that is your responsibility, not the creator’s.
Disliking a ship does NOT give you the right to attack people who enjoy it.
Do not tell authors or shippers that their ship is “disgusting,” “wrong,” or “shouldn’t exist.” Shipping fictional characters is not a moral failing.
No one is obligated to justify why they ship two fictional characters.
Headcanons are PERSONAL interpretations, not universal truth.
Dark themes in fiction do not equal real life beliefs or intentions.
Leaving kudos or short positive comments genuinely matters.
Not every fanwork is made for you, and that is okay.
Scrolling past content you dislike is better than engaging negatively
Enjoying a fandom later than others does not make someone less of a fan.
Disliking a fanfic does not entitle you to announce that to its creator. Sending hate comments to authors is NEVER justified, even if you disliked the work.

It's done, everyone. Both Corpses Are Live! (Not to be confused with 'Alive'.)
An Exquisite Corpse is a game in which each participant adds to a fanfiction in sequence by only being allowed to see the end of what the previous person contributed. Within these chapters is the story of a lifetime: a collection of 13 artists’ and writers' works spanning almost a year, seamlessly stitched together to create an exquisite tomarrymort corpse. These participants had no idea what the writer/artist before them made, and they still don't until they see this post. If the artists and writers could not communicate their full plots, storyboards, and images, how did they make a coherent story...? Well, they probably didn’t, but there's only one way to find out... That's RIGHT - we're back, baby! Corpse 2025 Team A & Team B bring you a tale you'll never forget...
Thank you to our amazing participants! I'm sure you're all as excited as I am to finally see what everyone has made together - thank you for making this event so magical~
