like it actually is more interesting to me if buck is responding to a real strain and distance that currently exists in his relationship with eddie instead of just randomly inventing grievances out of baseless insecurity, because TO ME that implies that there's something going on beneath the surface with eddie, too. and also it's the read most supported by canon at this point, imo. the distance is there. neither of them is bridging it. they're both snippy with each other; even their friendly banter has an edge to it that's never been there before. none of that is JUST buck; eddie is doing it too. things are weird!
but also, i think it's pretty clear that what's going on with buck isn't just about eddie. he's not (just) jealous that eddie is hanging out with hen; he's upset that everything seems to easy for them, that they're (apparently) adjusting so effortlessly, when he's still really struggling and feeling adrift and disconnected from his family. his struggle mirrors and underscores chim's struggle with the exact same thing.

Crazy that EddieHen friendship is basically just Buck's only personal version of hell. Someone else talking and laughing with Eddie at work? Someone other than him working seamlessly with Eddie? Someone else going to see a documentary with Eddie?? ABOUT WHALES?? KNOWING MORE ABOUT IT THAN HIM???? Eddie having a weird almost psychic connection with someone else?
