Ilvermorny Houses Headcanons ā pt. 1
T H U N D E R B I R D
ā The common room/dorms are actually a series of treehouses that sit in an enchanted section of the forest on Mount Greylock.
ā To access them, you must find the enchanted water color of the globe. It is usually in one of the tallest towers, but sometimes someone will mess with the Thunderbirds and switch to the library or inside an abandoned classroom
ā Ask the map to take you somewhere, and it will morph into somewhere on Earth. guess the place correctly, and it will roll up to reveal a magic gateway into the forest. rope bridges connect the treehouses and the entrance. on the treehouse side of the entrance, the gateway is a large hollow in the tree
ā Thunderbirds have found very clever ways to sneak pets into the dorms. one infamous student raised a congress of fire salamanders in her dorm without the professors ever knowing
ā Thunderbirds often find themselves sneaking out around the grounds (since their common room isnāt technically in the Ilvermorny castle). They like to see who can find the best spots (hot springs beneath a cliff face, a clearing with dozens of jackalope burrows, wood nymph hideouts, etc.)
ā on days off they like to hike from the castle to the peak of Mount Greylock
ā they have a shared spotify account (who knows how they got wifi?) and make the best playlists
ā the best parties are in the Thunderbirdās enchanted forest. floating balls of neon lights? trees that reach hundreds of feet above you? plenty of space to dance to their awesome music? yess!
ā every year, the older students will take the new additions to Thunderbird to the top of a tall waterfall on Greylock. The older students hold their hands and jump with them into the deep pool at the bottom (its enchanted so that no one can get hurt. no one is ever forced to, either)
ā most likely to take a religious studies/philosophy/foreign culture/language elective. always soul searching and evaluating their beliefs/morals
ā very unconventional, always finding loopholes in the rules
ā (most are) open-minded, eager discuss different viewpoints. asks lots of questions
ā typically really good at charms. sometimes students will challenge each other to a casual duel as practice
ā if Thunderbirds believe something is right, they will fight with everything they have to protect it. can be loners at times, but are extremely loyal to their morals
ā pride themselves on the fact that they are always searching for new experiences and looking to gain from them
ā produces the most intuitive and ambitious wizards/witches
Thunderbird ā soul and adventurers

ā common room is accessed in the library. theres a book that is blank that always sits on the back wall. you must write something new you learned between the time you left and the time you came back on its pages. there is no cheating, the book knows. when youāve satisfied the book, the shelf it sits on will swing open to allow you to enter.
ā the common room is covered in books. the walls and floors are stone, so the students have made it more homey with various couches and rugs and tapestries and shelves and shelves of books. there is always a filtered cool light to the windows, as if the common room was underwater. some say that its the magic of Isolt Sayreās Horned Serpent friend.
ā dorm corridors are hidden behind the tapestries, but you just walk through them to get to your dorm
ā like the girls dorm staircase at hogwarts, tapestries are solid when boys try to enter the girlsā dorms
ā Horned Serpent students are notorious for not turning in library books on time
ā typically very good at transfiguration, though it isnt always the case
ā much like Thunderbird, they are always looking to gain knowledge. however, most Horned Serpents would rather gain knowledge by listening and reading rather than diving in headfirst
ā One year the Horned Serpents got the entire student body to sign a petition to make āTaco Tuesdayā a real thing, now every Tues at dinner the kitchens serve TexMex food
ā Dont get on their bad side, they know too much about everything and will absolutely destroy you
ā Horned Serpent/Thunderbird house rivalry (friendly, unlike Gryffindor/Slytherin). Honestly though, the best friendships are between these two
ā produces good communicators and intelligent, fierce wizards and witches
Horned Serpent ā mind and scholars
P U K W U D G I E
ā The common room is accessed by the greenhouse. there is a vine that grows on the castle wall. it only responds to a special kind of magical fire, which when it senses it will retreat and reveal the passage. first years are taught how to summon the special fire, and only a select few from other houses have ever mastered it. (this is because pukwudgies were known to create fire).
ā vv good at potions and herbology. it isnāt even funny anymore, like if anyone gets injured doing something they arenāt supposed to they immediately go to their pukwudgie friends like āyo helpā
ā the common room is the definition of hygge. blankets, an eternal fire, walls lined with paintings and art, squishy chairs and comfy rugs. theres an entire wall filled with healing herbs and potions that students stock.
ā also in the common room is a huge bay window looking out over the sloping grounds of Mount Greylock
ā most likely to sneak into the kitchens and steal snacks (everyone says wampus is, but pukwudgies know the truth)
ā either wild at parties or the Mom FriendTm. again, everyone expects wampus to be the craziest/most daring, but Pukwudgies have courage like crazy and a common room full of ingredients to cure hangovers.
ā that said, Pukwudgies love tradition, so donāt expect them do anything incredibly spontaneous
ā will kill you if you hurt their friends (metaphorically⦠;))
ā extremely loyal, typically stick to the rules
ā whichever first year can befriend William is dubbed "Williamās Favourite" and remains so til they graduate. William knows and secretly picks a student every few years to talk to (donāt tell anyone but he gets lonely, he misses Isolt)
ā often found around Slytherinās snakewood tree. they collect the leaves and use them to create new medicines/potions.
ā Gobstone legends. The older students take the time on free days to help hone the younger studentsā skills
ā huge tricksters. started a prank war with Horned Serpent in 1946 and has been going on ever since. the other houses joined in a few years later
ā the most laid back house; every house has popular kids but pretty much every Pukwudgie student is well-liked, despite sometimes being overly-introverted
ā produces the most loyal and protective wizards and witches
Pukwudgie ā heart and healers
W A M P U S
ā their common room entrance is right off the entrance hall. you have to fight a suit of armor to enter, because the door is tucked behind it. even if you lose, the armor lets you through, because the point is that you had the guts to try.
ā their common room looks like the lobby of a mountain lodge. big carpets, windows offering views of every area of the grounds, suits of armor, trinkets, and weapons are artfully arranged on the walls. some animal hides and antlers adorn the walls too
ā a large burgundy wampus banner with moving bright red wampus kittens and their mother decorate one wall
ā they are very proud of their accomplishments, a shelf of trophies and certificates sits in the corner
ā they have a coffee machine in the common room. no one knows who put it there or how it works, considering the castle has no electricity
ā Quidditch champions almost every year. Thunderbird vs. Wampus games are the most exciting
ā generally considered the "popular" house
ā one year a group of fifth years tried to start a flying archery team, where students on broom sticks launch arrows at their opponents. you have to outfly the arrows, which dissolve if they touch you, so theyre pretty harmless. there was no point system, they just thought it was fun
ā cause a lot of trouble, but can almost always get out of it. Wampus students are light on their feet and calm under pressure
ā female power, over 70% of the house identifies as she/her or she/they. it didnāt used to be that way, but no one is complaining. the Wampus women are powerful
ā there is a legend that the Wampus statue in the entrance hall only chooses witches and wizards capable of legilimency and/or occlumency. there isnāt any real proof of this
ā Wampus students are often the best at DADA and give Thunderbirds a run for their money while dueling
ā produces the fastest wizards, usually very quick thinking
Wampus cat ā body and warriors
i might do a pt 2 like āif the houses were students what would their little quirks beā. this was super fun to make! lmk your ideas and hc in my ask box/in the comments!
Me *crying on the bathroom floor*: Im gonna end my life, everything is horrible
Me *less than 10 seconds later*: lmao a bit dramatic donāt you think?
(through gritted teeth) i love being out of my comfort zone it is necessary for my personal development
Bpd is like going through the five stages of grief 24/7, but the acceptance part just kind of gets left out
YEAH. YEAH.
Why does being ignored even in the slightest send me into a spiraling rage? I want to destroy everything and myself. Obviously what I say doesn't matter and isn't worth responding to. I wish I could smash myself into pieces just to prove a point that I don't matter and never did.
cutting is like coming up from being underwater and taking a gasp of fresh air. thatās what it feels like itās the only relief to the turmoil in my head and life. the only way i can deal with my emotions for a little while before iām under again
having bpd and needing constant reassurance but not asking for reassurance because ur scared of being abandoned but constantly thinking ur being abandoned bc ur not being reassured overall. i feel annoying. i drive myself insane in my head but i wonāt ever ask because i feel like iāll push everyone away, so i donāt say anything, but i still push them away anyway
i want nothing more than to be everything he deserves but how the fuck am i supposed to be that when a single trigger sends me into a spiral for hours
itās not him. heās perfect. heās everything i need.
heās so beautiful. he deserves perfection.
but here i am on the verge of tears over the tiniest inconveniences
i make an embarrassment of myself every chance i get
Object permanence struggle is so hard. No matter how much they do, give and show, in the moment they are busy, donāt text a lot, it feels like as if they had never been there. I feel so alone, left and unloved.
I hate making friends, because usually, they end up being my FP. And then I get unreasonably jealous, angry, and sad any time I hear about how they've been doing literally anything with someone who isn't me.
It makes me worry that person has found someone they like more than me, and it's only a matter of time until they leave.
i love how my therapists always applaud me for being āself aware,ā as if that doesnāt make me hate myself even more. i know that what is being done is an issue and needs to be fixed, but for some reason i do it anyways and watch myself spiral out of control.
i donāt understand where this block comes from, this resistance to happiness. i want it so badly yet whenever it presents itself to me i run away. i run and i run fast.
sometimes my gut instinct about someone is right and my brain tells me āsee!!?? we were RIGHT about that person hating you!!! donāt you see how intuitive you are and how perceptive you are? you should believe me more when i tell you iām noticing someone in your life is behaving a certain way because youāre right about it a lot. stop doubting meā (which isnāt a helpful thought but my brain triumphantly thinks itās protecting me by assuming how others feel about me and using previous ācorrectā assumptions as definitive proof)
āHe wasnāt mine and I wasnāt his but he was so good at making me feel like we belonged to each other.ā
