Pray for and with gender diverse children, as if they were your adopted child. As well as trans men in the clergy and in consecrated life, as they follow your path.

Intercede on behalf of all transgender, transsexual, transvestite, two-spirit, and gender-non-conforming peoples - that we might be fully accepted by the church and permitted to openly participate in church life, ordainment, and religious orders - if we are called to do so.

I love praying to Mother Mary, asking for her strength and love. But sometimes I feel like Candace yelling for her mom 😭😭😭 like [Candace voice] MOOOOM! I'M ASKING FOR YOUR INTERCESSION AGAIN!

I am a firm believer that queer people were made in Gods image, too. That we are just as human as anyone else. That we were created with love. That we should be welcomed into any church we see fit because that’s where God is.

But I also believe that God forgives us for not going to church if we feel unsafe. He knows our hearts and he knows that human folly has created hatred in others for his creation. I don’t think we should feel ashamed for not feeling safe because God knows our hearts.

Conservative Calvinists like to argue against the notion of choosing God—they say that grace is irresistible, and that the conclusion of this is that we do not choose or accept God, he breaks into us and forcibly transforms us. I think of this and the sex abuse scandals of the SBC, the patriarchal domination, the marital rape, the lack of care for consent—their God reflects a worldview that does not value consent. God rushes in as he pleases and cares not for our response. They argue this is the pious belief—that anything else suggests we are capable of stopping God, and this diminishes his power, but they’re missing something.

What if God wants our permission?

What if God, the lover, wants us to choose him?

Choice and free will aren’t about power, though of course conservative Reformed Baptists and the like would reduce them to that because to them, everything is about power. But really, choice and free will are about love freely given. About saying yes to God. Our Lady consented before the Incarnation. The prophets consent to delivering God’s message. Jesus consents to the Cross. The Holy Spirit is invited in. It doesn’t diminish God’s power for him to want us to consent. It adds to his grace and his love. And he is a patient lover—one who waits for us when we reject him. Who does not move until we say be it done to me according to thy word. The bridegroom who waits for the bride to come to him.

We choose God—we seek out and choose his embrace, which is always available for us but does not force itself upon us.

It’s not about our ability to stop God—it’s about a God who waits for us to choose and consent to him. To ask for him. God is a good lover, who values these things, who treasures them.

I am my beloved’s and he is mine. And I have chosen this life, just as he has chosen me.

the trick to being a good Christian is to see everybody/everything asa little piece of god. hugging my boyfriends cat right now and all I can think when I bury my head in his purring tummy is "there's a little bit of god in there. this is what being close to god feels like is being close to love and this cat is full of it"

I’m also going to observe that if someone you’ve been following online turns out to be quietly, non-proselytizingly religious, and isn’t reblogging or posting hate speech, and isn’t advocating for bigoted or prejudiced political positions, and isn’t shilling for genocide, and is more or less “correct” in their progressive takes except for their religious identity, which they post about without trying to convert anyone or shame anyone…

… then your actual problem is with having a religious person in your social circle, period.

there are queer religious people.

there are indigenous religious people.

there are religious people from all walks of life and many of them aren’t Pure Eclectic Pagans they belong to big bad evil organized religions. this doesn’t magically negate the axes of oppression they exist at the intersection of. shockingly, one can have religious beliefs that push them toward leftism and progressive ideals!

you’re within your rights to say “don’t proselytize to me” and “don’t preach to me” and “bringing up your faith makes me uncomfortable, so please consider not talking about it when we’re in the same space”. you’re within your rights to block and withdraw and end friendships. but you’re never going to be able to successfully spot the eeeeevil religious person in a leftist crowd. sorry!
