Fading Flames Chapter 1 (Fionna And Cake)
It was a regular day as regular as you can call it, another mundane and boring day for the likes of Fionna, but today was a little different than most, deciding that it would be good to not keep Cake at the apartment and maybe go on a short cat walk around the town for a while.
"Let's go Cake," Fionna said after putting a leash on Cake's collar, she opened the door to go out, only to be met with a familiar face.
"Fionna!" Marshall Lee greeted, guitar case hanging on his back, he seemed happy to meet her, a little too happy.
"Marshall," Fionna greeted back, noticing the tone in his voice, "What's up?" she asks in a skeptical tone.
Marshall raised his hands forward defensively, "Nothing, nothing, uh, where you headed?" he asks, changing the subject.
"A Cake walk-- Cat! A cat walk," she said, correcting herself but catching Marshall of guard.
He began to laugh, getting a glare from Fionna before he composed himself, "Sure, enjoy your Cake walk~" he teased.
"Urgh," Fionna groaned, "You still haven't said why you're here," she stood while crossing her arms, waiting for an answer.
Marshall leaned back, raising his hands, "You got me, I was just thinking about hanging out..." he said with a shrug.
"Oh," Fionna uncrossed her arms.
"...at your place," Marshall finished.
Fionna's expression changed once she realized what he meant, her hand immediately going to her face, "Oh."
She let out a sigh and ran her hand through her pocket, reaching for the keys before handing it to Marshall, "Just lock the door once you're done," she says before passing him.
"Cool," Marshall nods, heading inside as Fionna left with Cake.
Fionna walked down the street with Cake beside her, stopping by the bakery to meet with Gary despite the fact that Cake had been acting up, seemingly angry with pink haired candy connoisseur.
"Welcome!" Gary's voice was heard as the bakery's door chimed, Fionna walked inside. "Oh, Fionna, perfect timing! And Cake," he said happily.
"Hey Gary," Fionna greeted, walking over to the counter.
"Out on a cat walk? You need to keep hydrated, even if it's not a vigorous activity dehydration can still occur, and-- oh! I have just the perfect thing for you," Gary began to ramble on, heading to the drink station to make something for Fionna.
He came back to the counter with a drink for Fionna, "Here, it's coffee but you should still drink plenty of water when you're out, alright?"
"Yeah, yeah," Fionna replies with boredom as she took the cup from Gary, their hands touching causing them to both look at each other with slight surprise.
Once the two realized, they began to chuckle, but a loud meow was heard from the floor, before hissing. Cake jumped on the countertop and hissed at Gary who stepped back in fear.
"Cake!" Fionna yelled and attempted to pull at Cake's leash to get her to stop.
Cake jumped down from the counter and let out a scoff before licking her paw.
Fionna looked at Gary with an apologetic look, "Sorry, I don't know what's gotten into her lately," she said to Gary with a worried expression.
Gary smiled sympathetically, "It's alright, maybe she's just not in the mood, cats can be like that after all."
"Yeah," Fionna said while looking at Cake, taking a sip of the coffee Gary handed her. Thinking that it was time to carry on with the walk, she turned back to Gary, "We'll be off, see you around."
"Come on Cake," Fionna tugged at Cake's leash, waving at Gary as she walked out of the bakery.
The two went on to continue their walk, Fionna sighed as she took a sip of the coffee Gary made, turning to Cake.
"Gary is nice you know? I've had the longest crush on the guy but it doesn't seem like he's the least bit interested, he only sees me as a friend," she says to Cake, sounding like a madwoman to whoever she passed by.
But it was therapeutic to think that her best friend was listening. As she rambled on, Cake was staring at her with a tired look in her eyes, which made the whole experience feel more real to Fionna.
She smiled at Cake, letting out a minor complain, "All I'm saying is that, it would be nice to have someone be interested in you more than just a friend, you know?" she said to Cake with a shrug.
Fionna held the half cup of coffee in her hand, when all of a sudden, Cake started running, it caught Fionna off guard that the leash slipped from her hand.
"Cake!" she called in a panic, running after her into the gates of the park.
However, no matter how much Fionna called, Cake didn't seem to stop.
"Cake!" Fionna called again, "I'm sorry, I won't complain about my love life again, please just-- come back!"
Fionna had closed her eyes for a moment from sheer exhaustion, but in the span of that moment, another person wasn't paying attention as he went across from her.
The two met each other with wide eyes full of surprise and panic, however Fionna's momentum was difficult to stop--no, it could not be stopped.
And before they knew it, they had collided hard, and fell to the floor, Fionna's coffee spilling on the park grass.
"Ow, ow, sorry," Fionna sputtered, pulling herself up from the man she had landed on top of.
"Watch where you're going man..." he said with a weak groan.
Fionna quickly got up, offering him a hand.
The guy took her hand and stood up.
"Sorry about that," she said, looking at him closely, the guy had a mohawk that resembled fire, her eyes sparkled as she stared at him.
His eyes seemed to not be able to look away from her either, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly, "It's cool..." he replied.
Fionna's eyes wouldn't have left him if it hadn't been for Cake who was sitting nearby, grooming herself.
"Cake!" Fionna immediately called, rushing to her cat's side to grab the leash, kneeling beside her to give her some pets, "Don't run away like that next time will you?" she said with worry.
"Hey," the guy she had bumped into called, looking a little sheepish.
Fionna stood up with Cake in her arms, "Yeah?" she replied with an interested smile.
"There's gonna be a party later downtown, maybe you uh, wanna come down?" he asked, rubbing his arm as he looked at the floor.
Fionna tilted her head curiously, "Sure, what's the address?"
"Right!" the guy said in realization, grabbing a flier from behind him, "Here, I've been handing these out."
Fionna took the flier from his hand, scanning it before raising her head, "DJ Flame?" she asked with teasing smile.
The guy blushed and looked away, "Yeah...that's me."
"Pfft," Fionna giggled.
DJ looked a bit embarrassed seeing her laugh, he looked away feeling a bit shameful before she took him back.
"I'm Fionna, thanks for the invite, I'll see you there then?" she asked.
He looked back in surprise, "Huh? Uh-- yeah! I'll see you there," he replied, a smile forming on his face.
Fionna chuckled, "I'll see you around then," she said, waving as she walked off, continuing the walk with Cake.

Love, was it all in Vain? Kalego x Reader Chapter 12
I don't understand what is going on. These two are just living their normal lives. Crystal is the name of the girl whose eyes I see through, she has blue hair, almost pale, nearing white, it had a similar gleam to my staff whenever light bounces off it, her eyes were... blurry, I couldn't see them in the mirror at all whenever she looked into it.
She and Route had this mundane routine, after dinner Route would leave to his office to do some work. When I managed to sneak a peek of what was in there, it was full of magical tools. Though this was interesting, another thing I noticed was how... alone Crystal was...
House chores and a little bit of gardening and that was it, no other interactions or distractions. Whenever they needed something from the town, Route always insisted on going by himself, alone.
One day, Route got injured in his office and had to stay bedridden for a while, Crystal took care of him, but eventually she had to go out to get something in town. Route tried to stop her, but she insisted and managed to leave, being given a special hairclip by Route said to disguise her looks. In his words, "I don't want anyone else to fall for your beauty, my wife."
Still, even in their most loving interactions, there was this sense of unease that I felt...
In town, I could feel Crystal feeling anxious, she didn't know what do, it was her first time in town and everyone she tried to speak to seemed to ignore her, that was until...
"Ack!"
"Ah, sorry miss!"
A man had bumped into her, knocking Crystal down, the clip on her head flew off, breaking on the ground, she picked it up, worried about the damage as the man held his hand out to her.
"Are you alright, miss?" he asked, his tone of genuine concern.
Crystal looked up at him, taking his hand and fixing herself up, "I'm alright... thank you, um...?" she said, holding the broken clip near her chest, her eyes fixated on the man in front of her.
An enigmatic expression adorned his features, he wore regal clothing, was he a noble?
"Ah, I forgot to introduce myself," he says, placing his hand in front of his chest and doing a small curtsy, "I'm ______" he stated.
That name sounded static when it came to my ears, but it seemed that Crystal was unaffected by it.
"Oh my, I apologize..." Crystal became frantic, bowing profusely as the man tried to calm her down by gesturing his hands down. Crystal pulled the edge of her skirt and bowed to him, "H-how do you do, my name is Crystal ______" she said, keeping her head lowered.
It had been quite some time since she had last done something like this, from what I'm feeling, she's a bit flustered and worried she might've lost her edge.
The man chuckled, causing Crystal to look up warily.
"Well then miss Crystal, what brings you to town?" he asks.
Crystal's eyes darted elsewhere as she pressed her index fingers together shyly, "Um... you see, my husband is sick and I was looking for the pharmacy, he's been waiting for quite some time now, I'm rather worried..." she explains, placing a hand to her cheek.
"Is this your first time coming to town? I haven't seen you here before," the man comments, placing a hand on his chin. Crystal nods at his question, "Then let me show you the way," he offers kindly.
Crystal's mood instantly lifted, "Really? Thank you so much!" she said with glee.
That was most of the interaction, after getting the medicine, Crystal thanked him once again before heading back to her house.
"I'm back," she called out, greeted by Route at the couch, his foot in a cast, "I got something that would heal your injury instantly, here, take it," Crystal says, handing him the medication, eager to make him feel better.
"Thank you darling," Route says, giving Crystal a kiss on the cheek as he took the medicine off her hands. As he opened the bottle, his eyes focused on the medicine, "By the way..." he began, side eyeing Crystal, "Did you talk to anyone... by chance...?" he asked.
Crystal was quiet, her head tilted, but she smiled, "No one I can remember, just the pharmacist," she says.
Hm? Why did she lie?
Route smiled, "I see," his mood seemed to brighten, "I was worried someone was enchanted by your beauty and might take you away from me, I'm glad I'm the only one who can see that you're a diamond in the rough, my love," he says.
Crystal smacked his shoulder lightly, blushing, "Hah..." she sighed, "stop joking."
"It's true though," Route said nonchalantly, taking a handful of medicine and taking it all at once.
He wiggled his feet and took off the cast, "There we go," he said in relief before standing up, taking Crystal by the hand and taking her somewhere, somewhere I will not explain because my sight faded to black.
The next few days seemed to have returned everything back to normal. By normal, I mean Route spending all of his time making magic tools, Crystal being alone.
One day while making lunch, there was no bread, and Crystal wanted to make something with bread.
She sighed, thinking that she had already gone to town once, it wouldn't hurt to go again when Route was so engrossed in his work, she wrote a note and stuck it in the fridge before leaving the house, thinking that she should also restock their pantry while she was out there.
And coincidentally, she bumped into someone.
"Oh, it's you again, sir _____" Crystal greeted.
"Miss Crystal, what a coincidence," he replied, "what brings you to town this time?" he wondered.
"Just a bit of grocery, I was in the middle of making lunch and realized we were low on supplies, I thought that I would just make a quick trip," she says.
The man smiled, "Speaking of lunch, would you care to join me?" he asked.
Crystal tilted her head, "You mean?" she questioned.
"There's a café that I've been wanting to go to, but I'm embarrassed to go alone," he said with a slightly shy face, "I would appreciate it if you'd consider my request..."
Crystal placed a hand over her mouth to hide her smile, "Why of course, I'd love to see the town a bit more before I go home," she replied, her smile wavering before she released a giggle she had been holding back.
The man let out a relieved sigh, giving Crystal an embarrassed smile before offering his hand, "Let's go then."
The two headed to the café and ordered, they spent the rest of the afternoon talking about things, perhaps things that Crystal wasn't able to tell Route because he was so busy, nevertheless, it felt like a weight had been lifted from Crystal's chest.
"Oh, would you look at the time," Crystal says before getting up from her seat, "thank you for the lovely time, but I should head home, my husband must be looking for me by now," she said worriedly.
"No worries, I had a lovely chat," the man assured, "tell me more when we meet again, miss Crystal," he says as he waved her off.
Crystal waved as she left, heading back home. She opened the door, ready to be greeted by a concerned Route, but no one was there.
"Route?" she called out, stepping inside, leaving the bag of groceries on the kitchen counter, her note still in the same place as she had left it.
She knocked on his office door before opening it after hearing no response, she found him at his desk sleeping in his arms, she couldn't help but sigh seeing him overworking himself and missing lunch and quite possibly dinner as well.
Crystal took a blanket and draped it over him before heading to the kitchen to make dinner, crumpling up her note before tossing it to the trash, placing the groceries in the pantry. Route didn't have to know she went to town, it would only worry him more... at least that's what Crystal felt.
Weeks passed, nothing much changed, one could even call this emotional neglect. Crystal had been taking more frequent walks into the forest to unwind, she was upset with Route, but she didn't want to cause any conflict between them and instead kept it all inside.
Then the thought arose, how about visiting the town?
She left a note for him again before leaving, this time deciding to head to the library to check out some books, she had already read through the entirety of her collection, now it was time to get new books to read, perhaps romance? Just the thought of it made her smile.
Her hands trailed the back of the hardcovered books, searching for the most eye-catching title, stopping at the forbidden love section, she stood still, frozen in time as she picked a book, opening it to read the prologue when a voice called her.
"It seems that we often cross paths whenever you're in town," he spoke, his tone full of amusement.
Crystal chuckled, her eyes never leaving the page, "Are you perhaps stalking me?" she quipped.
The two shared a silent moment as the man's gaze fell on the book, "That's a good book," he says, "too bad it ended in a tragedy."
Crystal closed the book in a huff, glaring at the man, "Spoilers," she said in an annoyed tone.
The man chuckled awkwardly, "Then shall I recommend something else? I promise I won't spoil," he said, holding a finger above his lip in a mysterious manner.
"Alright," Crystal smiled.
The two sat down at the table and chatted for some time, there it was... a small flutter in Crystal's chest, she was... falling for this man...
And when they checked out their books, "Here," the man says, handing Crystal a book.
She looked at it before taking it off his hands, "This is... the book you spoiled me on earlier," she said with a deadpan look.
The man chuckled, "I paid for it, it's only fair since I spoiled the ending," he said, giving Crystal an odd smile... there was definitely something there...
Crystal nodded, placing the book in her bag before turning, "Then, I'll see you again next time," she waved as she walked off.
__
"Where have you been?"
A cold chill filled the room as Crystal entered the house, Route sat on the couch with his elbows rested on the table, looking at Crystal.
Crystal sighed, "I left a note," she said wearily, "I went to the library in town to get some b--"
"And what if someone caught you?!" Route shouted, standing up from his seat as he angrily approached Crystal, grabbing her by the shoulders. "You put yourself in danger and for what? What do you want to happen? If you want me to be worried then I'm worried!" he shouted.
"But no one caught me!" Crystal shouted back, getting Route's attention. Seeing the anger in Crystal's eyes, he stared wide eyed at her, "How can you say that you're worried when it feels like you're not even here! Worried? What about me? Don't you think I'm worried about you always being cooped up in your room working on whatever it that you're working on?!" she yelled, pulling away from him, tears brimming in her eyes.
Route's hand outstretched to her, his red eyes wide with regret, "Crystal I--"
"--No! Forget it!" she shouted in frustration, walking off to the bedroom before slamming the door shut, locking it behind her before curling into a ball, leaning her back against the door while Route tried to apologize.
She needed the time to cool off, Route began to grow silent on the other side of the door, footsteps fading away, Crystal began to sob.
Her eyes trailed to the bag she had on her, seeing the scattered books on the ground, a voice echoed in her ears as she saw the book on the floor. "I paid for it, it's only fair since I spoiled the ending."
Her hand reached for it instinctively, her breathing had finally calmed down as she began to read the book, her heart fluttered at every loving word the two characters shared, the story of a demoness trapped in a political marriage and her forbidden love, a simple man who tried not to dabble in the affairs of nobility.
And yet the ending was bittersweet, with them being separated by their fates unable to rekindle even after all they've been through.
The sun had rose when Crystal had finished reading the book, she placed it down next to her nightstand and fell asleep, exhausted.
__
Crystal awoke to someone tucking her hair behind her ear, her eyes opened softly, landing on Route who was laying beside her, a remorseful look on his face.
"Route..." she called, sitting up, it was still awkward between them.
He placed his hand on top of hers, "I was worried since you didn't come out, I made dinner..." he said gently, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles.
"I'm sorry for not considering your feelings, I've been too caught up in my work to take care of you, I promise I'll do my best to be better from now on, so please, don't be mad..." Route stated pitifully, as if a puppy begging for treats.
Crystal turned to him, a small smile forming on her face, she took his hand and placing her other hand on his cheek, making him face her, "You better keep your promise, dummy," she says, grinning at him.
Route couldn't help but pull her in close, "I will," he said like a sob, "and please," followed up by something that made Crystal feel cold.
"Don't go to that town ever again."

I have a buncha respect for u for not using AI on ur most recent Love was it all in vain chapter!! I think it was super super good and i really liked reading your words as your own!! I hope you do more chapters like that, cause i think anything you do is best when it's as purely you as it can be! sorry if that sounds kind of silly, but i liked it a lot!
Thanks for reading and for the kind message, I got really insecure about my English at some point because of my vocabulary, but I'm starting to write more on my own because I'm also working on an original story and I decided that I wanted to write it myself because every time I read my stories the words just didn't feel like my own. Your kind words mean a lot to me, thank you for taking the time to write a message 💙
You know, sometimes I wonder if I really drew something, like this like whattt????
My OCs Seldom is the one unfinished and the one with color is Crimsen.

Love, was it all in Vain? Kalego x Reader Chapter 11
The next morning, for some reason, Opera insisted on helping (Y/N) with her bath. After much persistence, (Y/N) couldn't help but agree, intrigued by Opera's unusual behavior.
(Y/N) lay in the tub, the warm water enveloping her body as Opera gently washed her hair. "How is the water temperature, (Y/N)-sama?" Opera asked, their voice calm and attentive.
"It's just right," she replied, feeling the soothing sensation of the water against her skin. "Remind me again why you're doing this?" she inquired, curiosity piqued by the extravagance of today's bathroom experience.
"The new bath salts and shampoo arrived this morning, and I thought it would be a good opportunity for you to try them out," they responded promptly. However, there was a hint of mischief in Opera's voice that made (Y/N) wonder if there was something more to their actions.
What exactly was Opera planning?
Even after the relaxing bath, (Y/N) sat on her bed wrapped in a comfortable bathrobe, while Opera took on the role of a fashion consultant, sifting through her wardrobe to find something appropriate yet modest among the numerous revealing outfits.
(Y/N) let out a soft yawn, feeling a bit puzzled by Opera's sudden interest in her attire. "Again, what brought this on?" she inquired curiously as she watched Opera ponder between two outfits.
"Sullivan-sama will be away for a while, and I've taken it upon myself to ensure that (Y/N)-sama looks her best during his absence," Opera replied, a touch of pride in their tone as they finally settled on an outfit for her.
A sigh came from (Y/N) as she took the outfit off Opera's hands, "So dad asked you to do this," she guessed, making her way behind the dressing screen to get dressed while Opera prepared other things.
"Opera?" she called out from behind the screen, moments before stepping out. As she emerged, she revealed herself in a lovely dress that covered her neck and shoulders, exuding a sense of elegance. Though the dress had a cleavage window, it still maintained a modest look, suitable for someone like (Y/N). The skirt gracefully ended just above her knees. To ensure she felt comfortable, (Y/N) wore black tights to prevent showing too much skin, though she couldn't help but wonder how well her cloak would complement this dress.
Noticing (Y/N)'s new appearance, Opera quickly turned their attention back to her, their gaze intent as they prepared the matching shoes she was supposed to wear. "Yes?" they asked attentively, ready to assist with any final touches.
"I don't think this outfit will go well with my cloak or my hat," she revealed, frowning as she took the shoes from Opera's hands.
Opera immediately formed an 'x' with their hands while shaking their head. "No cloak, no hat," they stated firmly.
"Eh?! Why not?!" (Y/N) exclaimed, surprised by their response.
"It ruins the aesthetic," Opera replied, still in protest.
"But the cloak and hat have become an integral part of who I am as a demon. You can't just take them away from me!" (Y/N) whined, feeling a bit upset.
In the end, the cloak was reluctantly set aside while the hat remained on, much to Opera's disdain. Thankfully, her book holster was kept, and she clipped it to her waist. Opera continued their meticulous attention to detail by spraying some perfume on (Y/N).
"Opera!" (Y/N) exclaimed, finally reaching her limit. "Seriously, isn't this a bit much?" she asked, looking at the security demon with concern.
Opera simply gazed at her with a glimmer in their eyes. "I believe this is enough," they stated confidently. "Off to school you go, (Y/N)-sama. You don't want to be late," they urged as they gently pushed her out the door.
"Wait-- Opera!!"
The door slammed shut, leaving (Y/N) outside with a sigh. She contemplated going back to throw hands with Opera, but she realized it would take too much time. Instead, she decided to move on, stepping out of the mansion's gates and extending her wings, ready to take flight and head to Babyls.
__
In the teacher's lounge, (Y/N) sat at her desk, diligently working on the paperwork required of her role as a teacher. As she focused on her tasks, Raim walked by and couldn't help but notice her new look.
"(Y/N)-sensei, I see we both use the same perfume. Your outfit looks a little different today, and I must say, I like it," Raim complimented with a playful wink.
An awkward chuckle escaped (Y/N)'s lips in response. "Thank you. Someone insisted I try something new today," she replied, sighing softly.
"That person definitely has good taste," Raim remarked, walking over to (Y/N)'s desk. She rested her elbows on the table, placing her head between her hands as she observed (Y/N), "Say, won't you tell me your routine?" she asks.
"Routine?" (Y/N) questions, raising a brow while giving a small confused smile.
"Your skin is flawless, surely you have some sort of routine, no?" Raim asks, now leaning closer to (Y/N)'s face.
(Y/N) chuckles awkwardly, blushing at the compliment, "I don't have one," she says sheepishly as she ran her fingers through her hair. Her train of thought began to wonder about the stuff Opera would prepare for her, she didn't know what they were but when they told her to put it on her face she'd just go with it.
As (Y/N)'s thoughts began to wander, Dali entered the room, surprised to see her there, "(Y/N)-sensei, you're here today," he greets with a smile.
"Good morning," (Y/N) replied, returning the smile. "I don't have much to do today because of the batra party, so I thought I'd catch up on some work in here. Though there doesn't seem to be much here, I might finish quickly, there's still some things I need to do," she says, suddenly remembering that she needed to talk to Kiriwo about the scroll.
Dali nods understandingly, "Come to me if you need any help, by the way, how are the anecdotes?" he asks.
(Y/N) jolts, "Oh right, I have to return those... I haven't read though them yet..." she says, a blush tinting her cheeks as she nervously fiddled with her thumbs, an action Dali found quite adorable, enough for him to chuckle at her actions.
"Don't worry, I'm in no rush to get them, I just hoped that they helped you in whatever it is that you were looking for," he said sweetly.
"Thanks, you really didn't have to," (Y/N) says, placing a relieved hand on her chest. She stood up and took Dali's hands unexpectedly, "You've been a tremendous help, I promise I'll pay you back for this," she says, cupping his hand in hers.
Dali blushed but was unable to pull his hand away, "I-it's really nothing..." he trailed, feeling a cold murderous aura coming from the doorway.
They both turned, seeing who it was, the one and only Kalego glaring at them, "Kalego-kun, how long have you been standing there?" Dali asks, a bead of sweat falling from his forehead.
(Y/N) immediately let go of Dali's hand, hiding hers behind her back, looking flustered as if she had just got caught doing something she shouldn't have been, "I-I think I'll go," (Y/N) says, laughing awkwardly as she sped past Kalego who was dripping with menacing energy.
Raim began to giggle at her desk, "I've seen enough," she said as she stood up, "Who knew the day would come I'd see Kalego-sensei act jealously of someone," she says in an amused tone.
Dali turned to her, "Jealous? Of...?" he asked, but he suddenly realized her implications, "Kalego-sensei, you like (Y/N)--"
"--Silence."
Kalego's voice cut through as he stomped over to his desk, already in a foul mood. He couldn't say another word to Dali as he was his senior, though a part of him wished he'd stay away from (Y/N). After the day they spoke to each other about some things, he decided that he wanted to be someone who would protect her from demons who don't even have an inkling of her pain and the weight she was carrying, that included Dali, or so he hoped.
Hearing their conversation, 'He's helping her?' he wondered, since when? Why did she trust him more when they barely met a few days ago? And the way she thanked him...
A strange feeling of frustration bubbled inside his chest, jealously, as Balam put it, he hated it. 'Is there any way to get rid of this stupid feeling?!' his anger was seeping through his very being, turning the atmosphere inside the teachers lounge a wary one.
__
'What the hell was that?!' she thought as she sped walked through the hallway, trying to get away as far as possible. She eventually stopped in the middle of the empty hallway, at first feeling cautious, wondering why she was so panicked about Kalego seeing her holding someone else's hand, but she remembered the talk with Opera, and immediately a bunch of emotions began to swirl in her head.
Her face exploded with red and all she could do was cover her face as she tried to reason with herself that Opera was probably just teasing.
(Y/N) let out a sigh, her gaze turning to the courtyard where a few petals of the cherry blossom was fluttering freely in the wind, from behind her, a door opened and a voice called, "(Y/N)-sensei?"
She turned to meet gazes with Kiriwo, she hadn't even realized she was outside of the batra room, her eyes carried a hint of cloudiness as she stared at him before she gathered her senses, "K-Kiriwo-kun, sorry, I was just spacing out," she says.
Kiriwo gave her a nod and a smile, "Are you free right now sensei? I have some time if you want to try opening the scroll now," he offered.
(Y/N) nods, "That, right, yes, sure I have time right now," she mumbles, her tone unsure as she had just walked out of the teachers lounge abruptly and was thinking about coming back, but she pushed the thought aside, entering the batra room with Kiriwo, the door closes behind them as Kiriwo immediately walked to the table where the scroll sat.
He takes the scroll from the table and offers it to (Y/N), "It has quite the energy on it, it might take a lot to break the seal," he says as (Y/N) took it off his hands.
Having the scroll now in her hand, she tried to decipher the magical energy surrounding it to match it, clearly this scroll contained the demon king's mana, and all she needed to do was match it. She began to remember how he felt, his touch, his mana, her mind flooded with memories of him, his smile... she felt a small flutter in her chest as she finally broke the magic seal.
"I-it's open," Kiriwo stared in shock as the seal that held the scroll closed fell to the ground in tatters.
(Y/N) nods, opening the scroll, as she began to read the first few words, a blinding light emitted from the scroll, causing Kiriwo to look away, but as he turned, he noticed (Y/N) falling forward, he quickly caught her, shocked as the scroll fell to the ground. She had fallen unconscious, he laid her down on the mat on the floor, confused as he went to pick up the scroll, his eyes scanned it, seeing it empty.
Just what magic was trapped in that thing? He wondered.
He turned back to (Y/N) who laid unconscious, a smile crept up his face, his eyes hidden behind the reflection of his glasses as he approached her, his hand reaching out to her body...

Where...am I...?
"Crystal!" a voice called and I turned.
Crystal...?
Something inside me said that this man, Route, was my fiancée. White hair, red eyes, he looked worried as he ran up to me.
"Where have you been?" He asked, hands on his knees panting after running up to me.
I look around the area, it seemed I was in a forest, all of a sudden, my mouth was moving all on its own, "I was just checking out the forest, it seemed like a lovely place to take a walk." this wasn't my voice...
"Is that so? You should've told me first, I was worried." Route said, he did look really worried, he placed a hand on my shoulder and began guiding me home.
The house we entered was in a secluded area, not another house in sight, the town was miles away, I don't understand... something inside me is telling me that something is wrong...

Author's note: I have to come clean.
Listen, I'm not a native English speaker and my vocabulary is very limited, I've been using AI to help me with my writing and at first it helped me a lot, but lately I've been feeling unhappy with it, like it all feels like the same regurgitated shit all the time, so for this chapter, I decided to write using my own words for the first time in a while instead of having AI rewrite it to be 'better' in my mind.
I apologize if this has made you lose respect for me as an author, I'm really just starting to pick myself up right now after a long long time of being insecure, I hope you enjoy this chapter and please do compare it to the previous ones, I'd like to learn your thoughts. Soup-san, signing out.
Love, was it all in Vain? Kalego x Reader Chapter 10
(Y/N) found herself alone on the rooftop after Kalego had left to assist the first-year students with the batra challenge. She knew that her senior class would handle the task well even without her. Finally granted a moment of solitude, she allowed her mind to wander freely.
Grateful for the weight that had been lifted off her chest through her conversation with Kalego, (Y/N) felt a deep sense of appreciation. The burden of unspoken thoughts and emotions had been shared, providing her with a newfound sense of lightness. As she stood there, surrounded by the tranquility of the rooftop, her thoughts meandered through various realms.
Her eyes fixed on the horizon, taking in the beautiful sight of pink cherry blossoms. The delicate petals danced in the air, a rare and precious sight in the harsh environment of the netherworld. But (Y/N) was not one of those demons who had never seen such beauty before... a voice echoed in her head, asking her to remember...
A bittersweet smile curved on her lips. "Even in your absence, you're still protecting me, huh..." she whispered softly, her gaze filled with a mix of fondness and sorrow, reminiscent of someone she had lost long ago.
Her thoughts shifted to the parchment with the demon king's seal. It held a significant place in her heart, a symbol of their shared history. With a small gesture, she reached into the orb attached to her staff, activating the extradimensional spell she had placed on it a long time ago. From the orb, she retrieved a horn ornament with red strings and a golden ring attached to it. She held it close to her chest, her fingers tracing the intricate details.
"You really were a nuisance," she murmured affectionately, a gentle warmth emanating from her as she held onto the last tangible piece of remembrance she had of him.
Gratitude filled her heart for all that he had done for her. She acknowledged his presence in her life and the impact he had made. Yet, deep within her, she knew that her feelings had faded, or perhaps they had never truly been there to begin with.
As the cherry blossoms continued to sway in the breeze, (Y/N) took a deep breath, finding solace in the fleeting beauty of the moment. She made peace with her emotions, cherishing the memories while embracing the path ahead, ready to write her own story in the ever-changing netherworld.

Arriving home with the book of staves in her hands, (Y/N) felt relieved that the day was finally over. Sullivan had given her the book before leaving for the meeting of the thirteen crowns at Babel Tower. "I'm home!" she called out, announcing her arrival.
"Welcome home, (Y/N)-sama," greeted Opera, who took the book from her hands. They scanned her up and down before speaking, "(Y/N)-sama, are you still wearing those clothes to work?" they asked, referring to the revealing outfit hidden beneath (Y/N)'s cloak.
She nodded. "My uniform hasn't arrived yet. Dad said it should be here soon," she explained, walking towards her room with Opera following closely behind.
"The order stated that it has arrived, but no package ever arrived," Opera informed her.
(Y/N) turned to them, a look of disbelief on her face. "Eh?!" she exclaimed. "You're lying," she said, her brows furrowing with worry.
Opera shook their head. "I wouldn't lie," they insisted. "It must have gotten lost during transportation. But that's alright, isn't it? (Y/N)-sama seems to enjoy wearing those outfits."
A sigh escaped (Y/N). "I guess..." she mumbled. Suddenly, memories of Kalego's hands on her bare shoulders and his eyes scanning her neck and body flooded her mind, causing her face to instantly turn red, her arms instinctively rising to cover her shoulders.
"(Y/N)-sama?" Opera called out, tilting their head as they noticed the sudden change in her demeanor. "Did something happen today?" they asked, their curiosity evident.
(Y/N) flinched, quickly shaking her head to dispel the intrusive thoughts. "N-nothing that important!" she exclaimed, attempting to dismiss the matter.
"Kalego-kun?" Opera muttered softly, causing (Y/N) to flinch once again. "I see," they stated calmly before walking ahead of her.
"O-Opera!" (Y/N) whined, her face still flushed with embarrassment, as she followed behind the security demon.
"I fully support Kalego-kun being Iruma-sama's father," Opera declared, swiftly opening the door to (Y/N)'s room and placing the book on her desk. They turned back to her, a mischievous glimmer in their eye, and asked, "When will he be moving in?" Their tail wagged with excitement.
(Y/N) placed both hands on Opera's shoulders, her voice filled with a mix of exasperation and embarrassment. "I-it's not like that!" she exclaimed, her face now even redder as she shook the security demon gently.
"It's alright, (Y/N)-sama. You just take your time," Opera reassured her sympathetically, their voice trembling slightly as they were physically shaken by (Y/N).
(Y/N) gave up trying to reason, easing her grip on Opera's shoulders, her head sunken in embarrassment. "I told you, it's not like that... you know I can't... not when I'm..." She let out a heavy sigh, acknowledging that today she had failed to confess her feelings due to the curse.
Opera placed their arms on hers, providing a comforting touch. "You certainly can, you're just afraid of the consequences if you do," they stated calmly, guiding (Y/N) to sit down on her bed. "Is it about the curse?" they inquired, receiving a nod from (Y/N).
"All the more reason to express your feelings. Live as though each day is your last. Wasn't that what Sullivan-sama said when he first learned about the curse?" Opera reminded her.
(Y/N) sighed, her voice filled with resignation. "Aren't I already?" she mused, leaning back and lying on the bed, her gaze fixed on the ceiling.
Opera moved closer, taking a seat beside (Y/N) before lying down next to her. "Then what are you afraid of?" they gently probed.
Closing her eyes, (Y/N) placed her hands on her stomach, expressing her inner turmoil. "I don't... I don't want to leave him with unresolved feelings. What if I don't break the curse and disappear because of it? Wouldn't I just be leaving him with painful emotions and no closure? Or what if I do confess and have to leave again for a long time?" Her frustration etched on her furrowed brows.
"(Y/N)-sama, you'll break the curse, I believe in you," Opera declared, turning their head to look at her. "If he loves you back, he'll be willing to wait centuries for you to return," they reassured.
(Y/N) turned to them, her worry evident in her eyes. "That's the thing... What if he doesn't feel the same way? What then?" she questioned, her voice laced with uncertainty.
"There's a good love potion on sale from that succubus' store in town," Opera stated, that same mischievous sparkle in their eye.
An irked expression appeared on (Y/N)'s forehead, "Operaaa," she whined, casually hitting their arm, "I'm being serious," she said with a sigh.
"But that's the thing, isn't it?" Opera began, their tone becoming more earnest, "You can't be sure about anything until you make the first move. It shouldn't matter whether or not he likes you back. If you truly believe that you'll one day succumb to your curse, then isn't it better to leave without any regrets or lingering feelings?" they asked.
(Y/N) looked at them, her eyes gaining a sparkle as she contemplated their words. "Yeah, but..." she mumbled, her voice still laced with hesitancy.
"Aside from that, from our years in Babyls, I believe that Kalego-kun might already have unresolved feelings. That's just a thought, though," they added before getting up and walking to the door. (Y/N) rose from the bed, looking at them intently.
Opera bowed with a hand on their chest, "I'll prepare a bath for you right away," they said before leaving the room.
Left to ponder their words, (Y/N) found herself lost in thought, wondering about her feelings and the possible reciprocation from Kalego. The warmth of the bath awaited her, but so did the uncertainties of her heart.
The night ensued quietly...
__
After bathing, (Y/N) sat at her desk, reading up on the book of staves. However, this wasn't her first encounter with the book of staves; she already had a copy of it sitting on her desk in her room that she got from the library the other day.
An intriguing difference caught her attention. The first book she had possessed had an author's name clearly displayed, and it contained no information about the Orb of Avarice or the Orb of Betrayal. Instead, it had detailed accounts of the Staff of Legends. In contrast, the copy she currently held in her hands contained information about the two orbs but lacked the author's name. It appeared as though the name had been deliberately scratched out, leaving only cryptic initials written in gold ink, R. D., beneath the author's section on the back of the book.
As (Y/N) delved deeper into the encrypted book of staves, her initial assumption that the encryption was the work of Delkira, the former demon king, began to waver. She realized that the encryption spell used was quite simple.
The fact that the book remained intact when Kalego broke the encryption suggested that it was not specifically meant for her, nor was it directly related to the demon king.
'Could it be... the author of the book knows something about the curse and how to break it?' (Y/N) thought as she flipped the page to the one for the Orb of Betrayal.
Contemplating the possibilities, (Y/N) turned her attention to the page dedicated to the Orb of Betrayal. While she already knew about the curse and its effects, the information contained within the book provided further insights into the curse and the functionality of the cursed staff created by the orb. It became increasingly apparent that the author of the book possessed knowledge beyond what was widely known about the curse and its artifacts.
Deep in thought, (Y/N) couldn't help but voice her question aloud, directed at the enigmatic R.D. whose initials adorned the book. "R.D., just who are you?" she murmured, her gaze fixed on the gleaming golden letters. The mystery surrounding the author deepened, sparking a determination within her to uncover their identity and the secrets they held within the pages of the book.
Despite her fervent determination to unveil the secrets within the book, (Y/N) found her pursuit fruitless. The pages offered little beyond ways to wield her staff, leaving her feeling frustrated and disheartened. Sensing that her mind needed a reprieve, she decided to take a walk, hoping the change of scenery might offer some clarity.
As she wandered the hallways, staff at hand, her eyes caught sight of a clock, indicating that the night was still young. Passing by the door to Iruma's room, an idea took root in her mind. "Why don't I go pay him a visit?" she pondered. The mere thought of connecting with Iruma brought a sense of comfort, easing some of her pent-up frustration.
With newfound resolve, (Y/N) stepped into Iruma's room, intending to bid him goodnight. Despite being recognized as his mother figure, she realized that she hadn't been as nurturing as she could have been. The warmth of motherly love and attention was something Iruma deserved, and it was time for her to embrace that role more wholeheartedly.
"Oka-san!" Iruma exclaimed, sitting up from his bed upon (Y/N)'s entry.
"Hey, good evening. I came here to say goodnight," she said with a smile, moving closer to his bed.
Sitting beside him, she looked at him fondly before patting his head. "You seem to be having fun. I hope the Netherworld is treating you well?" she asked with genuine concern.
Iruma nodded happily, humming in agreement. "I've been having a great time. Grandpa and everyone make everything enjoyable. Oh, and I joined a batra today!" he said, excitement evident in his voice.
"Really? That's wonderful!" (Y/N) replied, taking her hand off his head to listen to his day. "Which batra did you join?" she asked.
"The Magical Tools Research Batra! I met a senpai with an inspiring goal, and I want to help him achieve it," Iruma said, blushing from excitement.
(Y/N) was pleasantly surprised, realizing that the batra leader she had spoken to had also spoken to her son and convinced him to join. She smiled warmly. "Kiriwo-kun?" she asked.
Iruma nodded. "Mhm, you know him?" he asked in return.
(Y/N) chuckled, gently patting Iruma's head. "It's a small school, of course I know him," she said as Iruma leaned into her touch, enjoying the affection. "I'm glad you joined him. He could use the extra help, poor boy," she added with a hint of pity.
"Oh right!" Iruma suddenly exclaimed. "Oka-san, did you join a batra when you were a student?" His eyes sparkled with excitement, eager to learn more about her own experiences.
(Y/N) glanced upwards, a reminiscent smile playing on her lips as she remembered her past. She thought of young Kalego, and a softness filled her heart. "Not initially," she replied, her voice carrying a touch of nostalgia. "It wasn't until my second year that I formed a batra with my kouhai."
"You didn't join one but created one?" Iruma asks in surprise, (Y/N) nods.
Curiosity sparkled in Iruma's eyes as he pressed further, "Which batra did you create, Oka-san?"
Suppressing a chuckle, (Y/N) placed a finger over her lips, signaling secrecy. With a mischievous wink, she replied, "That's a secret. But here's a clue: our batra specialized in subjugating rogue demons."
"Subjugating rogue demons..." Iruma mused, his hand thoughtfully touching his chin as he delved into the possibilities, trying to decipher the identity of his mother's batra.
(Y/N) smiled, "It's not something you have to find out right away. How about this? There's going to be a batra party. If you manage to win an award, I'll tell you," she said, proposing a bit of a difficult challenge.
Iruma nodded, beaming with determination. "I'll do my best!" he exclaimed, his smile warming (Y/N)'s heart.
"Alright, alright, that's enough talking. Off to bed with you," she said, casting a gentle magic that caused Iruma to float. He was then tucked under his blankets.
"Whoa!" he exclaimed as he was tucked into bed gently by his new mom.
She looked at him with a smile. "Goodnight, sweet dreams, Iruma," she said before walking out of his room.
"Goodnight... Oka-san," Iruma muttered as he watched her shut the door of his room.
He slept comfortably, feeling the warmth of a parent's love for the first time in a while...
