also something that can be noted is the fact that the Dead Pegasus gas stations hold a lot of importance being as they’re mentioned so often
so here’s what i currently believed happened:
first let me state that, once again, this is happening on an alternate timeline rather than following any real life events, k
so. better living industries begins as a japanese-owned company. like most companies, they begin to import their products to other countries and station small businesses in them… namely within america. what people also tend to kind of forget is that BLI doesn’t only sell medications and drugs, but also offer an array of other products as well.
war sparks in the world… who knows who it’s between. america stays out of it, at first. very reminiscent of both WW2 and the wars in gaza right now, the USA mostly assisted and funded wars in other countries but kept the actual battles outside of american land. these wars were very bomb-heavy and nuclear bombing quickly became put into use as the war started to rage out of control.
… considering gerard doesnt know his own canon and referenced the analog wars rather than the helium wars when it came to this i’m going to make the assumption that the helium wars preceded in it in an attempt to include as many comic canons as possible… but tbh the war names are interchangeable.
2012 was when america had no choice but to be forced into battling on their own territory. the country suddenly suffered a barrage of bombing (reminiscent of pearl harbor or 9/11 in that it was a sudden terrorist attack to pull them into the wars). the bombs managed to hit (or rather, were aimed at) various oil refineries, resulting in a massive fire storm that ravaged through most of the country… aka the Great Fires.
this is, of course, when BLI swoops in showing off all the resources they have to stop this. not only that, but at this time, a state of emergency demanded that the current government take total control, having the freedom to make the decisions they needed to save their country. this allowed BLI the control they needed, as the government pretty much lent all their power to the company with the promise that they’ll restore the country to its previous state
…which it did more or less.
[also let me just mention that this… was planned by BLI. the attack, though blamed on other countries, was done by BLI, despite the fact that america and japan were allies in the war. the conspiracy tbh comes from whether BLI acted on its own or on the orders of the japanese government]
BLI makes a huge leap then, from the fairly large company it had become to being HUGE. not only do they stop the fires, but in the wreckage they construct the utopia of battery city, which became the safest place for people to hide away in. now, while there were other settlements, they weren’t nearly as safe and were either dangerous to live in or completely uninhabitable.
the next series of wars happen within america. while the first set slowly come to a close (with an assumed victory for the usa/japan/etc), the fight continues to rage on in the states. this is both an attempt at rebelling against battery city and the japanese influence now taking over america… and, well, themselves. i would consider this next war more of a civil war both in the united states and across north america. it’s in this war that america is completely torn up and ended up divided amongst those who won.
it’s also within this war that the Pig Bomb is set off. there’s not much information about it…. but here’s what i have to assume.
backing up a bit, this also goes within another headcanon timeline i have, aka…
2012-2013ish: Battery City comes to existence
2013-2015ish: Dr Death escapes, becomes the first zonerunner and both sets an example and starts a civilization…
2015-2017ish: Party Poison escapes, followed by the rest of the dangerboys at their own time… they become a crew (dubbed the Fabulous Killjoys) and slowly rise to infamy and power. the revolution is finalized by Party, who becomes the official figurehead with the Doctor running the show from backstage.
2017-2019ish: ‘Killjoys’ becomes a synonym to zonerunners/desertdwellers, any and all rebels are referred to as such. the revolution has spread and rapidly growing, developing its culture, the Fab Four, hallmarking the revolution, are at their political peak, only to be killed Nov 2019.
going by both that headcanon and the headcanons that territory and survivors do actually exist (even in abundance) outside of the city means that by the time the pig bomb was used, there were survivors… for it to be used on.
which makes me think the pig bomb was used on what are now called killjoys and also whatever is either in or outside the zones.
hell, the pig bomb could have even been what took out that huge piece of it??? who knows. but here’s what i do know:
this official tweet implies that cherri cola was, in fact, around at the time of the pig bomb. cherri had also been shown as someone who personally knew both the doctor and his allies/associates and party and the other killjoys, who probably got to know them considering how small the dwelller population would’ve been at the time

if the point of view is of a killjoy (or of THE killjoys), that can possibly imply that BLI has, at some point, bombed the zones or any other surrounding territories, rather than detailing any bombing that was suffered within the city, since it… is kind of implied that before the killjoys, battery city didn’t actually have any problems or forces to contend with
any rebel activity would have been silenced by the pig bomb, which would’ve also meant the rise of S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W/ as a force that wasn’t AS necessary beforehand. any and all dwellers alike would have been effectively put down and the zones would have gone quiet, until the fab four started making noise again which… LEADS TO THE VIDEOS chyeah
