Cowboy Jon has me fascinated, and Damian would be so into it.
Seeing Jon in his element riding and roping would be his favourite thing .
Jon still has superpowers, but when he was a kid, before they developed, he did junior rodeo.
And when his powers emerged, it became one of the few sports he still had to work at.
A horse doesn't care if he has superstrength, and a lasso is not helped by the ability to fly.
So Jon keeps cowboying. It makes him feel normal, real in a way he hasn't anywhere else.
And he gets good at it, great even.
His Dad gets him a horse to train and ride at home after he wins the state finals. When asked where the horse, Clark Kent excitedly explains how the farmer was just giving him away!
He names the gelding Biscuit when Ma Kent suggests it.
It becomes very clear why the horse was free soon after.
Biscuit is a greedy, stubborn, gigantic horse that has the personality of a grumpy old man.
Jon builds a bond slowly with large amounts of snacks and affection, and Biscuit still only tolerates him.
He still has to fight to saddle him half the time.
Once Biscuit is saddled, though, he rides fast and calm.
He just doesn't think to tell people. His rodeo antics are his escape, so why would he share it without reason.
Damian only finds out when he has a sleepover and sees Jons ribbons and trophies all proudly displayed both in his bedroom and his grandparents' walls when his collection becomes too big to contain in one room alone.
Needless to say, Jon is cajoled into showing off some of his skills to an impressed Damian. After the bat ensures there is no animal cruelty involved, of course.
Jon does a few rope tricks and introduces Damian to Western styles of horseriding.
Damian delights in being close to a horse like when he was a child, even if said horse dwarfs him.
Jons heart malfunctions watching show the horses love through gentle touch and praise.
He squashes down any thought of what it would be like if he were the one receiving Damians affection.
Biscuit nuzzles into Damian like he knows what Jon is thinking. He eyes him while doing it.
Jon swears the spoiled brat of a horse has never been that open to anyone, and Jon feeds him!
Damian turns to him, "Did you say something?"
Jon waves his frantically "Nothing!"
Damian raises a brow, but if quickly distracted by Biscuit yet again.
Jon tries to stop glaring.
After that, Damian is around more often, if that were possible. They ride together, sometimes on the same saddle, where Jon holds Damian to his chest and wonders if he could just keep him like this close. It's all very romantic until Biscuit gets grumpy and pulls on the reigns, jostling them forward and breaking the tension.
At least Jon can still feel the way Damian laughs and shushes the temperamental horse.
Damian even joins him at rodeos and competitions. It was nerve-wracking at first having him there, in Jons hero free zone, but he soon finds himself showing off for his Robin and searching the crowd for him.
Damian is always easy to spot. He cheers on Jon with his toothy smile from the stands and runs to him when he wins.
Jon delights in the way Damian clutches him with joy and excitement every time. It takes everything in him not to kiss his best friend when he is still high on adrenaline.
There, with Damian, Jon feels like a normal kid again.
Unfortunately, his secret skill can only stay secret so long.
It's during yet another invasion when Wonder Woman is injured and forced out of the fight that his Dad suggests Jon borrow her lasso.
The Amazon rightfully resists the suggestion but the lasso of truth is the only way to end this peacefully.
So after getting Supermans reassurance, it will be returned and respected, she hands it over to Jon.
Jon tries to refuse until Damian steps up and tells him that if he does this, lasso the queen of the alien armada that has attacked earth in the next sixty seconds, he will take him on a date.
The rest of the suphero community is shocked by the display, especially when Robin runs into his arms and promptly smashes their lips together.
Jon has never felt more real.
