When Vueling Airlines Ruins Your Beautifully Magical Milano Day Trip
This is a story about how Vueling Airlines forced my husband to spend the night in a Milan airport, purchase an additional flight, and pay for three checked bags when he only had one bag to check. Vueling Airlines - life-ruiners, they ruin lives.
Airlines limit you to packing only three ounces of your favorite shampoo and force you to remove your shoes before entering a super-evasive body-scanner in the hopes of preventing terrorism when in fact airlines are the real terrorist.
For the first stop on our Milanese adventure, we visited the Duomo. During the guided tour we realized where Game of Thrones may have been inspired to have House Bolton fancy flaying humans alive. The Duomo has a sculpture of a flayed St. Bartholomew, draped in his own skin. He was skinned alive because he converted Polymius, the king of Armenia, to Christianity, causing Astyages, the king’s brother, to ordered his death - v #GOT.
We wondered the ancient streets of Milan until we stumbled upon the Pane Vino restaurant on Via Torino. Our waitress Valentina offered us a sumptuous spread of Italian eats, gratis, to go with our bottle of red wine, Cannonau di Sardegna, from Valentina's hometown of Sardegna. Valentina is awesome, you go Valentina.
Prior to our meal, Sean received an email notification that our Vueling flight from Milan to Amsterdam was delayed which is why we mistakenly believed we had time enjoy more of Milan.
With our flight delayed, we thought we’d have extra time to explore the city. In actuality, Vueling Airlines expects passengers to arrive two hours before their original flight time in order to check luggage. In this equation, Vueling expected us to arrive fours before the departure time - delays be damned. Vueling wanted us to pretend they're a competent airline company and arrive to check-in for the time our flight should have left, not the time our flight left in reality - so they can provide us the service of checking our luggage.
But not even this information is reliable from Vueling. Our other travel buddy, Janie, was at the airport during Vueling’s check-in period. However, there was no one from Vueling at the airport to check anyone in. Not even one Vueling representative to dispense information.
Moreover, after multiple attempts at calling several Vueling customer service numbers, no assistance was received from Vueling, not by phone or otherwise. Oh, I forgot to mention two of their customer service numbers were not in service.
Further supporting facts that Vueling Airlines is an unscrupulous and shady airline, one of the airport employees handed Janie a passenger rights pamphlet and emphatically informed Janie that Vueling airlines is the nastiest skank *****. Do not trust them. Not exactly what the woman said, but you get the point.
Also, after arriving on time to the airport, heading to check-in we saw a woman bawling on her knees. We initially thought something much more devastating was happening to her; we heard the news of the actual terrorism that occurred in Nice, France, so that was looming in our minds. The bawling woman informed us Vueling was the cause for her tears. This bawling woman was one of a few tearful Vueling customers our group saw.
As Vueling would have it, my husband caught the 6AM Easy Jet flight to Amsterdam and he had to pay additional fees to check 1. My bag 2. His bag 3. Janie's bag.
Remember, Vueling said we had to arrive four hours before our flight to check luggage even though their were no Vueling Airline representatives at the airport to check our luggage.
Overall, our day in Milan was marvelous - overflowing with good wine and good memories made with great friends.
