Leash Training

Leash training is a staple activity of pet play. It is also a misunderstood one; many find the concept of leash training confusing or awkward. With practice, leash training can become an intimate, bonding activity that reinforces the d/s power dynamic beautifully.

Protocol

While not mandatory, many dominants choose to incorporate the ‘two steps behind’ rule into their leash training. In this protocol, the submissive remains two steps’ length behind and one to the side of the dominant. This enables the submissive to keep up with the dominant while walking, but still remain visually ‘in their place’. When performed without a leash, this technique also becomes an effective way to maintain the d/s dynamic in public.

Leash commands

Unlike leash training a dog, tugging and jerking of the leash in human leash training are encouraged. Hand signals can also be incorporated into the training. These commands, taken from Idaho BDSM, are basic techniques:

Firm pressure applied downward on the leash indicates the command, “down” or “kneel”.

Firm pressure applied upward on the leash indicated the command “up”.

A quick commanding jerk towards the dominant on the leash indicates the command “come”.

Several slight jerks to the front indicate that the dominant wishes the submissive to take the lead or precede him or her, such as when going through a door.

Raising the hand with the leash in it, with the palm open and facing front, indicates the command “stop”.

Lowering the hand with the leash in it, palm aimed at the floor, indicates the command “stay”.

Lowering the hand with the leash in it, with two fingers pointing to the ground, indicates the command “heel”.

Public play considerations

Leash training in public is a popular activity; however, it is also very controversial. Despite its legality, many BDSM practitioners are against public leash play, as it may reinforce negative stereotypes about BDSM practitioners being socially unadjusted. Additionally, many feel that public play forces nonconsenting passerby into becoming part of a sexual scene.

There are several ways of subtly taking leash training into the public sphere. Two examples are the ‘invisileash’, in which the dominant enforces the ‘two steps behind’ rule or sets a predetermined ‘leash allowance’ (a length in which the sub is allowed to travel freely, such as three feet), and a ‘wrist leash’, which is a very short leash that extends from the dominant’s hand to the submissive’s wrist and attaches to a cuff. This alternative is best suited for walks in open areas with few people, such as in nature.

Leash training requires privacy and at least some open space, so those who live with others may find it difficult to practice due to the amount of room that is needed to comfortably move around and practice positions. While leash training is a unique and rewarding activity, it is not necessary in order to have a fulfilling owner/pet relationship. Establishing protocol and expectations, such as the ‘two steps behind’ rule, is key to reinforcing the dynamic.

I don’t go on leashed walks outdoors much, and when I do its dark out, and I have a dark leash. they are fun to do, but it is best to not make everyone around you uncomfortable by doing it around other unconsenting people.

Other leashed activities are also fun, though they generally stay in the bedroom or house.

Sorry for the back and forth. I have many questions I guess. You can answer privately if you want so I'm not spamming your blog. But I have heard one kitten having a bad experience, she talked about how others were too, but that was awhile back so I don't know how it is now. Is KS safer/nicer? Also, do you think I have a shot at getting in? Of course I'll need to study up on it a little more before diving in, but I really am interested in becoming a kitten model and meeting others like me

I don’t mind my blog being spammed, and I certainly don’t mind answering questions I was just wondering if you had any personal questions I would answer them privately rather than out in the open. I don’t think The Chateau has changed since then, as I am still hearing the same negative things from some girls who are still part of it, but there are also many girls who are part of it and do enjoy it. So again, its all up to personal opinion.I cannot make the comparison of KS to The Chateau, as to me it’s almost comparing an apple to an orange. The two have similarities, for sure. They both have models, they both promote a BDSM/Kittenplay lifestyle. They both have online sections where you can see their models, and I think they both have online blogs. I see the Chateau as more of an online magazine, with these levels that you go through, like pearl, lapis lazuli, emerald etc- and the higher you are the more shoots are shared? I’m not 100% sure but that’s what it seems like.Kitten Sightings is a little different; I’m fairly new to the program, they pretty much have their models to showcase their gear. Despite all the rumours we do not get priority when releases come out. We have to pray to luck and fast internet like everyone else. In short, the Kitten Sightings models are there to promote the product for the store, (and to be a positive force in the community)We do however get some gear every so often to be able to model and showcase, generally one set of ears and a collar. However Kitten Sightings top priority are their VIP and public releases for everyone. I Personally think the KS community is lovely, I haven’t found a kitten involved in that model program I don’t like, then again I haven’t found any legal adult kitten I do not like. As for if you would get in? Kitten Sightings accept all models from all walks of life, as long as they are 18+ They have a lot of entries month after month, so all I can say is don’t give up if you don’t get in the first time. I mean, I didn’t get in the first time. Kitten Sightings look for high quality photos, you need to be able to submit very high quality photos with a quick turn around, I am assuming Chateau is a little similar. As long as you can show that you can produce high quality images, that can showcase their product well - you have a good chance of getting in, just as much as any. I do know the selection process is very hard on those who have to choose the kittens, and that applications are currently closed.To be involved in the community; Fetlife is a safe place for adult KittenPlay and BDSM, you do get the occasional unwanted message from Doms, but 80-90% of them usually back off if you make it clear you aren’t interested. I would recommend both Fetlife and Instagram to communicate with fellow people involved in KittenPlay. I use Instagram for a good 70% of my interaction with people because its so quick, easy and convenient.

Thanks for the tips! I also forgot to mention that I am pretty nervous about applying to be a part of the chateau. And for the photographing part, I live in a pretty small town and there aren't many photographers. Plus, I haven't been in kitten space without my master. Not many people know what pet play is so I might feel uncomfortable with the photographer if he/she doesn't know what it is I'm trying to do. What should I do about that?

First up, I would be a little careful with the Chateau; from what I hear from many other kittens its not always a positive place. However in saying that I also know kittens who really enjoy being in the Chateau. I think it’s a matter of opinion and personal experiences. As my personal experience with the Chateau is next to none, I cannot give a valid opinion beyond just being a little cautious. As for the photographers, thats a hard one. I’m very lucky in that having used to run anime conventions, and being heavily involved in that scene I know a lot of photographers. Keep in mind most professional photographers will require money for their services. It is a job for them after all. I’m not sure if you have any conventions in or near your town, but generally cosplay photographers or amateur cosplay photographers would be a safe bet- they are already used to taking photos of people being all dressed up in costume, and whilst I do not see KittenPlay as a costume, or aesthetic but as a lifestyle, the photos can, I guess - be construed that way. Try to be open about what you are doing, maybe talk to a few convention photgraphers and say “Hey I am trying to apply to this online catalogue of catgirls, and want to spitball a few ideas back and forth. The photos are used online with the sites watermark, and a set is generally 5-10 photos. How much would that cost?” Etc.Please tell me if you want future asks to be answered privately, and I’ll do so~

Any tips on modeling? I kinda want to get started on that but I don't know how.

Oh wow! So sorry, I don’t go on Tumblr much - quick backgoundHow I got into modelling was more so about who I knew at the time, I started modelling for a friends indie clothing line - but when that went out of business I stopped for a long time till I decided to pick it up again on my own. Incorporating petplay into it. I didn’t think too much of it, and was doing it more so for my own boost of confidence than anything else. Every so often I would have a paid shoot, but I am not with any form of agency. From there I was approached by KS to be on their cover. Since that happened I thought to myself, “Hey why not apply to be a KS model” I did, and got in on my second attempt.

I guess my advice would be to first and foremost, be of legal age for modelling in your country, and if you want to get into any sort of gravure or BDSM related modelling be 18. No ifs ands buts or whatifs. This is for your safety and the safety of those around you. Second would be to have high quality photos. You could be the best model in the world but if your photos are nothing but grainy selfies you won’t get much work, nor will people take you seriously. Also never do anything out of your comfort zone, if a photographer approaches you asking you to show more skin than you are willing to, or do something you are unfamiliar with or uncomfortable with. do NOT do it. This uncomfortable feeling shows up in photos, not to mention you should never feel forced to do something you don’t want to do.Practise! Practise poses, practise make up, practise facial expressions, research these things. No one is a master of their art without practise.Network: sometimes it is about who you know, you have a friend who does modelling? ask them for advice, you have people you follow or like, ask them too.NExt up: ignore hate, I hear there are opinion blogs around, especially in the Kitten Play community. I personally don’t know where they are or what their content is, nor do I care. the WORST thing you can do to yourself is read them, its nothing but what I assume to be anon thoughts. One persons negative opinion should mean nothing to you. If you let every little bit of negativity get to you, then you need to focus on yourself first. Again, you. Your health. That is what is most important.Finally, be yourself. You shine brightest when you are.Don’t follow trends or famous models just because you can.If you have similar styles or interests, that’s cool too- don’t be afraid to rock your likes and dislikes, your individuality, because if you are nothing but yourself, then that is what will show through most.I hope that helped, and I am sorry for the big delay!
