50+ Reasons Why Percabeth Are The Perfect OTP: PJO Edition
Annabeth spent two whole days spoon feeding Percy back to full health before she even knew him.
And I don’t care if this isn’t the real meaning behind it, because if you look at it this way it’s adorable The first thing Percy hears Annabeth say, about him, is “He’s the one. He must be.”
Oh, also, Percy’s first thought about Annabeth, while he was nearly unconscious, is that she’s pretty. And also that her hair is curled like Cinderella’s, but that’s something else.
When they first met Percy thought that she was going to say something about how awesome he was for killing the minotaur, but, instead, all she says is “You drool in your sleep.”
In the beginning of TLT, she doesn’t really like him but, when giving him the tour of camp and Clarisse shows up, is immediately willing to start a fight in order to defend him.
(I forgot about this, but lililibird reminded me). He covered her in toilet water within about an hour of of meeting, and she didn’t even get that mad.
Percy being the first person in nearly six years to convince Annabeth to give her dad a second chance. Luke probably spent all of their years together telling her she shouldn’t, but, with Percy, even though it’s rarely brought up, she trusts him enough to take his advice.
When they’re on the ferry to the underworld and Annabeth, brave, independent Annabeth, who, at this point, hardly knows Percy, holds his hand.
Annabeth told Percy, in the Lighting Thief, to take his mum home and leave her in literal hell, without any hesitation whatsoever. She was eleven. I mean, god damn, that was brave.
Percy kept a picture of Annabeth in his textbook, which meant that they must have sent letters back and forth.
And, because they’re both dyslexic, they might have been in poor English or Greek, and they probably spent hours reading and writing them, determined to get them perfect. And you know Annabeth still has hers from him.
When something went wrong, Annabeth’s first move was to go to Percy’s school.
Annabeth tolerated Tyson.
Seriously, that’s all that needs to be said on the Tyson topic.
Wait. I was wrong, there’s more. She actually grew to love him, not just tolerate him. And that’s just the cutest thing. Because she probably had to push back a lot of memories and deep routed fears to do that. But she did it, because Percy asked her. And it was important to Percy.
“I mean, she looked good. Really good. I probably would’ve been tongue-tied if I could’ve said anything. But there was also something totally wrong about it. It just wasn’t Annabeth.”
“Before I could figure out how to apologize for being such an idiot, she tackled me with a hug, then pulled away just as quickly. ‘I’m glad you’re not a guinea pig.’”
“It was better than New York. Better than Mount Olympus. I knew immediately that Annabeth had designed it all.” - Percy’s absolute belief in Annabeth’s skill as an architect.
“I was desperate. I had to keep Annabeth alive.” And they’ve been doing just that, for each other, since they were twelve.
“Her whole body shuddered, but when she looked at me, I knew the spell had been broken.” All he has to do is look at her in order to know if she’s okay.
And, off course, the hug at the bottom of the ocean in The Sea of Monsters! “She started to sob - I mean horrible, heartbroken sobbing. She put her head on my shoulder and I held her.”
But, seriously, the whole Siren scene. All of it. It’s too perfect to sum up.
“The crowd cheered. Annabeth planted a kiss on my cheek. The roaring got a lot louder after that.’ - because everybody ships Percabeth. Everybody. Even if you don’t, you will learn to.
(Sally Jackson about Percy and Annabeth:) ”‘I know you’ll do what’s best for Annabeth.’ ‘How can you be sure?’ ‘Because she’d do the same for you.’“ - They’d do anything for each other, even the Queen Percabeth shipper, Sally Jackson, says so herself.
(About Annabeth potentially joining the Hunters of Artemis:) ”'I don’t understand.’ ‘Well, it seems to me… maybe Annabeth was thinking about joining.’ I’d like to say I took the news well. The truth was, I wanted to strangle the Hunters of Artemis one eternal maiden at a time.“
“I took Annabeth’s baseball cap out of my backpack and set it on my nightstand. I’d give it to her when I found her. And I would find her.”
That scene at the Hoover Dam when Percy remembered all those random facts about its construction and you just know that Annabeth would be kinda proud of him, and kinda happy. Because it’s Percy, and she probably talks about architecture all of the time. And it’s Percy, and he listened to the facts and remembered the numbers and he probably couldn’t care less but he accidentally (or purposely, I don’t know which is cuter) memorized all this crazy specific information about the Hoover Dam because she never shut up about it. and also probably because it’s important to her so it’s important to him (although baby Percy would never admit that).
When they went on a not-a-date to the movie’s, which only further reiterates the whole ‘they must keep in touch so well’.
“'I must have a new lieutenant. And I intend to choose one. But first, Father Zeus, I must speak to you privately.’ Zeus beckoned Artemis forward. He leaned down and listened as she spoke in his ear. A feeling of panic seized me. ‘Annabeth,’ I said under my breath. ‘Don’t.’ She frowned at me. 'What?’ 'Look, I need to tell you something.’ I continued. The words came stumbling out if me. 'I couldn’t stand it if… I don’t want you to-’ 'Percy?’ She said. 'You look like you’re going to be sick.’ And that’s how I felt. I wanted to say more, but my tongue betrayed me. It wouldn’t move because of the fear in my stomach.”
And the scene near the end of TTC, when they slow dance together. (Percabeth dancing almost all of the time is one of my favourite things. Mostly because I absolutely adore lililibird’s headcanons for short!Annabeth, and I can always imagine her, once she’s smaller than Percy, her standing on his toes as they dance.
“She studied me with concern. She touched the new streak of grey in my hair that matched hers exactly - ” They have matching hair streaks! “Our painful souvenir from holding Atlas’s burden. There was a lot I’d wanted to say to Annabeth, but Athena had taken the confidence out of me. I felt like I’d been punched in the gut. I do not approve of your friendship with my daughter.” Never mind that fact that they become so much more than friends.
“The music was playing. People were dancing in the streets. I said, 'I, uh, was thinking we got interrupted at Westover Hall. And… I think I owe you a dance.’ She smiled slowly. 'All right, Seaweed Brain.’ So I took her hand, and I don’t know what everybody else heard, but to me it sounded like a slow dance: a little sad, but maybe a little hopeful, too.”
And, of course, I had to include their first official kiss at Mt Saint Helens. “She glared at me like she was about to punch me, but then she did something that surprised me even more. She kissed me. I’ve careful Seaweed Brain.’ She said, putting on her invisibility cap and disappearing. I probably would have sat there all day, trying to remember my name, but then the sea demons came.”
Percy’s feelings for Calypso were pretty much always 'what-if’ romantic, kind of like 'what if I could fall in love with her’ but he never actually did, and, I will always believe, he never would.
Also, even though Annabeth and Percy weren’t dating when Percy crashed on Calypso’s island, when Leo landed there Calypso’s asked him if he had 'an Annabeth’ back home. I mean, how obvious were they?
In the Battle of the Labyrinth, during the battle at Zeus’ Fist, when they were running into a fight against Kampe, and they had that short exchange: “'This might be it.’ 'Could be.’ 'Nice fighting with you, Seaweed Brain.’ 'Ditto.’ And, although it might not be romantic, it’s still a cute Percabeth moment.
OH. That reminds me.
They were best friends before they were ever even together.
“Before I could lose my courage, I said, 'Don’t I get a kiss for good luck? It’s kind if a tradition, right?’ I figured she would punch me. Instead, she drew her knife and stared at the army marching toward us. 'Come back alive, Seaweed Brain. Then, we’ll see.’”
“I felt a cold chill down my spine - like that old saying about someone walking on your grave. Behind me Annabeth cried out in pain.” - Annabeth took the knife for Percy. But, also, Percy was already so connected to Annabeth that he knew something was wrong and that she was in danger.
And then, “'Get back! No one touches her!’” When he drops everything else. He’s in the middle of a war, Kronos is stood right there, but all he cares about is saving Annabeth.
Seriously. He dented someone’s helm, destroyed a national landmark, and accidentally murdered a friend, just to get her to a medic.
Percy standing beside Annabeth, holding her hand, the entire time that Will is healing her.
“Silena threw her arms around me. Then she pushed back awkwardly, glancing at Annabeth. 'Um - sorry.’” I can’t explain why this relevant, but it is.
Hell. I’ll give it a shot.
She looked at Annabeth, not at Percy. Which makes me think that she wasn’t apologising to Percy, but apologising to Annabeth. Because you know that Silena knew that they liked each other. And she also knows that Annabeth would probably gut anybody that got near Percy.and also she totally set up the Percabeth shippers club (they have t-shirts and everything) but that’s not relevant (I originally wrote loads about Percabeth shipper club, but I had to delete it because I got so into it that it was more than 2 paragraphs long)
“'You’re cute when you’re worried, your eyebrows get all scrunched together.’”
“'Why did you take that knife?’ 'You would have done the same for me.’ It was true. I guess we both knew it. Still, I felt like somebody was poking my heart with a cold metal rod.”
“'I don’t know, Percy. I just had this feeling that you were in danger.’” Hey, look. Annabeth is finely tuned to Percy, too.
“This was Annabeth. If I couldn’t trust her, I couldn’t trust anyone.”
“She put her hand on my spine and my skin tingled. I moved her fingers to the one spot that grounded me to my mortal life. A thousand volta of electricity seemed to arc through my body.”
OH, and that reminds me…
“'The cord, remember your lifeline dummy!’ A familiar voice said. Suddenly there was a tug in my lower back. The current pulled at me, but it wasn’t carrying me away anymore. I imagined the string in my back, keeping me tied to the shore. 'Hold on, Seaweed Brain.’ It was Annabeth’s voice, much clearer now. 'Youre not getting away from me that easily.’ The cord strengthened. I could see Annabeth now - standing barefoot above me on the canoe-lake pier. I’d fallen out of my canoe. That was it. She was reaching out her hand to haul me up, and she was trying not to laugh. She wore her orange Camp t-shirt and jeans. Her hair was tucked up in her Yankees cap, which was strange, because that should have made her invisible. 'You’re such an idiot sometimes.’ She smiled. 'Come one. Take my hand.’ Memories came flooding back to me - sharper and more colourful. I stopped dissolving. My name was Percy Jackson. I reached up and took Annabeth’s hand.”
Wait. Backtrack to a little bit before that. Percy imagines all of the people closest to him - Rachel, Grover, Tyson, even his mother - while he’s submerged in the river Styx. But the one person that kept him grounded, that kept him tethered to the mortal world, was Annabeth. I mean, we all know how much he loves his mum. Now imagine exactly how overwhelming his feelings for Annabeth must be in comparison.
“The world was collapsing, and the only thing that really mattered to me was that she was alive.”
“I mean, sure, she’d always been cute, but she was starting to be seriously beautiful.
“Annabeth ran in right behind him, and I’ll admit my heart did a little relay race in my chest when I saw her.”
“Annabeth frowned. 'That doesn’t make sense. But why we’re you visiting - ’ her eyes widened. 'Hermes said you bear the curse of Achilles. Hestia said the same thing. Did you… did you bathe in the river Styx?’ 'Don’t change the subject.’ 'Percy! Did you or not?’ 'Um… maybe a little.’”
“I’d been on the edge of a panic attack, thinking that I’d lose her. Now she looked pretty much the same way.”
And, the absolute fact that they are never getting away from each other, that they’re staying together. In the Last Olympian when Annabeth says, “You’re not getting away from me that easily.” And then in Mark of Athena, when that scene happens, and Percy says, “You’re not getting away from me. Never again.”
“'You saved the world.’ 'We saved the world.’ 'And Rachel is the new Oracle, which means she won’t be dating anybody.’ 'You don’t sound disappointed.’ She shrugged. 'Oh, I don’t care.’ 'Uh-huh.’”
“'Up on Olympus, when they wanted to make me a god and stuff, I kept thinking –’‘Oh, you so wanted to.’ ‘Well, maybe a little. But I didn’t, because I thought – I didn’t want things to stay the same for eternity, because things could always get better. And I was thinking…’ ‘Anyone in particular?’
“I am never, ever going to make things easy for you, Seaweed Brain. Get used to it.’”
“When she kissed me, I had the feeling my brain was melting right through my body. I could’ve stayed that way forever.”
“And it was pretty much the best underwater kiss of all time.”
“I remembered what she’d told me in New York, about building something permanent, and I thought – just maybe – we were off to a good start.” Damn right they were.
Wow, this post took a long time to write up. And it’s soooo long. I’m sorry. But, thanks to contributions from: achievingelysium, shadowhunteerr, percytheslytherin, lililibird, somethingmorecreative1, bookwormpride and lolpercyjackson. Because of this posts original length, I have split it into two different posts: PJO moments, and HoO moments. Hopefully the other half should be up soon.
The seven made your profile legendary...
Keep it simple but always remember there must be blue~ So, how have you been fellow demigods? I must admit I’ve been busy, which kept me away from posting and Tumblr in general. I don’t know if I’ll be back in ‘full force’ or if I’ll see myself forced to be isolated from Tumblr, time will tell. In fact, I wanted to post something in case I won’t be able to come back and as today is 01/01/2016 I thought of wishing you a happy new year, although it may come as an eco to all the “happy wishes” and “blessings” some of us have already received. Nevertheless I hope you’ve started the year with love and happiness among other things. ~ we must remember Percy. We may never forget them
