Is anyone getting tired of the way the phrase “media literacy” is used as a flippant one-liner by people who are… also at times kind of lacking in media literacy?

I decided to elaborate on this in tags but then I decided to screencap them for the main post:

Like I’m not saying there is no such thing as poorly structured analysis that is insufficiently grounded in textual evidence (this definitely exists! and fun fact some of the stuff that masquerades as being highly intellectual can be bad analysis of its own sort) but I also feel like dismissive claims of “bad media literacy” can become their own form of bad media literacy if you’re not careful, yes?

if you think for even just a second how fucking crazy bonkers it is that women are so frequently kept from being protagonists or important or fully realized characters when its like. That is literally 50% of the world population. Half of all people (more or less. hopefully more as time marches on!) are women. And you look at media and think about how many protagonists are men and their best friends are men and the ensemble cast is 80-100% men and the fandoms are about men and the romances are about men. well. YOU GO INSANE

What they don't tell you about writing is that as you write, you discover scenes and entire plots that you hadn't accounted for that need to be written. So you can spend two hours writing and editing only to realise you're further away from the finish line than you thought you were when you started
