Ok so I am having a blast considering different types of economies and governments for my NagiReo ATLA AU if y'all want to see my considerations
I'm thinking the time period would be a couple hundred years before the Fire Nation descended into totalitarianism, mostly because I am fascinated to see how Air Nomads and former Air Nomads would affect the political, cultural, and economic structures of the world internationally. So at this time the Avatar is probably Yangchen or Kuruk, TBD. Maybe Kyoshi. Maybe Ego lol, imagine that.
Fire Nation: politically an oligarchy (military branch typically arises via authoritarian or meritocratic means, political branch via hereditary monarchy).
Command economy. Strong focus on military conquest, infrastructure, acquiring raw materials. They def utilize slave labor, mostly via the prison system and conquest.
Patriarchal society/nuclear family with required authoritarian schooling for indoctrination. Sharp ethnic/class divide between natives and non-natives.
BLLK Boys: Reo (native), Shidou (native), Raichi (non-native/mixed heritage)
Air Nomads: misnomer; actually a series of socialist, theocratic communes. Highly isolated from other nations, mild trade between Air Temples. Small subpopulation of actual nomads that can facilitate communication between Temples and the outside world (usually lone teenagers/young adults that don't fit into their birth temples and leave on soul-searching pilgrimages to find communities that they mesh better with)
No nuclear family. Theocratically elected monks are in charge of childcare and schooling, relatively high gender equality. Heavy Buddhist influence.
Also very interesting note: ALL (100%) of Air Nomads are benders??? Fascinating international sociopolitical implications rt
BLLK Boys: Nagi, Chigiri, Igarashi
Earth Nation: capitalist monarchy/plutocracy (low authoritarianism) in cities, traditional/agricultural economy in more rural areas.
Decreased patriarchal influence but not gender equality. Family is less important than in some other nations, mostly only important as far as generational wealth/business networking is concerned. Nuclear family is most common but alternative family structures are not uncommon and not discriminated against.
BLLK Boys: Kunigami, Kaiser, Ness
Northern Water Tribe: mixed-market parliamentary republic, limited voting rights (patriarchal, nuclear family/head of household gets the only vote i.e. the USA in the 17/1800s)
BLLK Boys: Itoshi Sae and Rin, Barou
Southern Water Tribe: confederation of smaller tribes with different religions/cultural beliefs, no centralized government
Varying cultural and religious beliefs affect trade and legal agreements between different tribes.
Traditional/agricultural economy
Local tribe > nuclear family (exact family structure varies by tribe), gender norms and equality vary by tribe.

If you have suggestions for placement of other BLLK boys hmu. Maybe I should swap the Itoshi brothers with KaiNess, idk
Also apologies to the person who recommended Nagi be a nonbender. The idea is lit! But I don't think it would work in this particular story. I need all the boys to be benders for the premise to work :(
