“Most of us don’t want to change. Really. I mean, why should we? What we do want is sort of modifications on the original model. We keep on being ourselves, but just hopefully better versions of ourselves. But what happens when an event occurs that is so catastrophic…that you just change? You change from the known person to an unknown person. So that when you look at yourself in the mirror…do you recognize the person that you were, but the person inside the skin is a different person?”

Fountain of Light was originally designed to float on the Albert Dock in Liverpool - click here for pictures! Its unusual form is based on Vladimir Tatlin’s plans for the Monument to the Third International, though the original construction was never actually built.

These people know their lives are about to change. They know they’ll need to fight to survive, but I will not go before them and argue to have that fight all at once and risk losing everything all at once unless I am certain that fight can be won.
Am I certain that we will prevail? No. But the odds will never be better than they are right now, in this moment. Of that, I am most certain.
