just because something is glorified doesn’t mean that its a harmless appreciation. its oftentimes a gateway into them manufacturing consent to TAKE it for themselves. Asians have every right to be wary, privatise and cut it here at its root before it devolves as it so often does.

just because its celebrated and advantageous on the white or non-Asian thief’s body, doesn’t mean it is treated the same on the cultural-steward’s body.

the thief will never grieve the taking, and the struggle of trying to preserve and protect one’s culture and cultural autonomy, against the commodification and appropriation of it.

imitation is not flattery, and white romanticisation and sexualisation (both forms of fetishism), is not a compliment.

extremely good post op and co. hopefully my take isn't unwelcome lol. so though i think it's worth noting this overall problem that applies to more than just japan ( see also, koreaboos and "chinamaxxers".) but since this post is about weebs here's some extra notes that i feel apply from a japanese perspective:

-"japanese" as a ethnic social class varies depending on your location. a japanese-born person living in japan (as a member of the ethnic majority) does not necessarily occupy the same social class as a diaspora japanese person living as a minority in the west, and may not have experienced the same oppressive systems or recognise specific forms of racism on sight. that is to say, it's highly inappropriate to tokenise japanese people who live in japan to silence the voices of diaspora japanese people criticising you for being weird.

-and no having a single token japanese friend who co signs all of your opinions also doesn't count. and btw considering any one japanese person to be the ultimate spokesperson for all japanese social issues forever is racist. we are not a hive mind.

-a lot of yall end up with weird superiority complexes about your yellow fever and treat actual japanese people as some kind of Competition or challenge to be More Japanese Than The Jap and it's weird and creepy and worst of all yall love to put yourselves in charge of cultural spaces (kitsuke, origami, tea ceremony, kintsugi, and language spaces are full of these types) and make them hostile to japanese members thus isolating us from our own traditions. plenty of these traditions are open, it's the shoving US out that's the issue. cut that shit out.

-while the earnest discussion and acknowledgement of war crimes and imperialism is good and necessary, if you are not asian and especially if you are white american it is not your place to claim imperial war crimes as justification or reasoning for racism and appropriation and it reads as particularly tone deaf given the active imperial colonial presence america currently has in japan. we owe reparations to a lot of people, but white americans are not one of them -it is highly infantilising and chauvinistic to excuse (or even celebrate) horrific concepts (ie, racism, xenophobia and especially sinophobia, queerphobia, transmisogyny, child abuse, predatory gacha mechanics, incestuous abuse, imperialism, organised crime, etc) as "simply a part of japanese culture they either don't know better or are more enlightened and you're the racist one for criticising it". enough with the fuckin "thing: japan" crap.

-japan has indigenous minority ethnic groups and you contribute to their ongoing genocide every time you appropriate their culture or destroy their land playing tourist while touting all of it as Japanese. this is particularly relevant given the tourist and military presence in okinawa (the occupied ryukyuan kingdom) and hokkaido (occupied ainu land).

-stop fucking using japanese words that you do not understand the meaning of. im so sick of white folks throwing around slurs and making up japanisms that Do Not Mean What You Think They Mean. im so sick of whites using weird engrish phrasing to sound profound. im so sick of whites giving themselves stupid ass names they can't even spell in either language. i'm so sick of the fucking alphabet being aesthetically marketable.

Sure, here's my disorganized recipe from hell, cobbled together from various websites and experiments. I just realized that I pasted the caramel and pastry cream in the wrong order... It's easier if you make the pastry cream first and clean that pot for the caramel. I'm on mobile. Will fix.

1 box white cake mix, using egg whites. Bake. Flip onto a wire rack.

2/3 box spice cake mix (save the rest to turn into batter later, or portion the batter and bake it on the side.) I add extra allspice. Bake in previous pan.

Caramel Ganache (kinda):

1 cup granulated sugar

⅓ cup butter, salted or unsalted

White chocolate and hot milk ganache (pre-prepare or don't; pour hot milk over the chocolate and stir until thick but fluid consistency. Use the same method over dark chocolate to make a separate, thicker ganache for later).

Heat until fully melted and amber, without burning. People say don't stir the sugar; I don't think it matters much for a cake like this and I stir it to help it melt faster after it has started.

Add the butter pieces and stir until smooth. It's gonna look scary. Just keep going.

Add the white chocolate ganache until reaching desired consistency. This is done now. Transfer to a holding container and immediately wash your pot. Filling the pot with water and letting the leftover scuz simmer on low helps.

Pastry Cream (it's just custard with butter, apparently) (ALSO NOTE: I never have a ton unless I make a thin tall cake, but this amount offers an appropriate texture. Maybe double this exclusively if you can make it look pretty. IMO, I'd turn this into a mousse to stabilize it, but I haven't. Spicetrekkers Walnut Espresso Blondie has a good custard->mousse setup.)

▢ 2 cups whole milk

▢ ¼ cup granulated sugar

▢ 1 large egg

▢ 2 large egg yolks

▢ ¼ cup cornstarch

▢ ⅓ cup granulated sugar

▢ 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

▢ 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or vanilla bean, split open, to add to the milk during heating)

In a medium saucepan, combine milk and granulated sugar. Gentle simmer/steam. Do not boil.

Whisk together 1 large egg, 2 large egg yolks, ¼ cup cornstarch, and ⅓ cup granulated sugar in a mixing bowl until smooth and pale.

Slowly pour about half of the hot milk into the egg mixture in a steady stream, whisking constantly to temper the eggs and prevent curdling.

Immediately pour the tempered egg mixture back into the saucepan. Return to medium heat and whisk constantly until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble, about 2 to 3 minutes.

Remove from heat. Stir in 2 tablespoons unsalted butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until fully melted and incorporated.

Transfer the pastry cream to a clean bowl. Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming. Refrigerate until completely chilled (can use freezer initially, if you want).

Layer as per image. Layer as follows:

Spice cake → Caramel ganache → White cake → Plain pastry cream → Pastry cream with add-ins → Dark chocolate ganache with oreos if you want it that way → Crushed biscoff cookies

It is very reminiscent of a typical Southern dump-cake, but if you organized it. It's fun. With work, it could be kind of classy?

If I had enough free-time, I'd change a lot about the layering. The caramel and spicecake is fantastic, but the pastry cream doesn't layer perfectly with the white cake. If it was up to future-me, I'd make round cakes, and stack the white in 2-3 layers with the caramelly cookie cream, and coat the entire thing in chocolate ganache (with a little espresso powder). This would do great with coconut and/or almond in a form of preference, too.

I feel like I had more thoughts when I was thinking about writing this post but. I really really love how p:eg incorporates themes about bigotry into the story. it can be a hard topic to handle and I can see why a writer would avoid it but it makes p:eg feel SO much more real and has really great messages. p:eg has female characters and characters of color and even in the packed first chapter it is already tackling these themes with Desmond’s story of being treated as dangerous and damon being an immigrant. the first chapter has to give you a lot but I feel like through ftes and just general interactions there are already conversations on how they experience misogyny. I had a better point earlier but. yeah. p:eg is a fantastic game

Mizi's hair

TLDR; Mizi's long hair is used to symbolise her sexualisation and objectification, AKA the sexist oppression that she goes through. This is more just a compilation of proof of argument rather than a deep analysis. Bonus Till and Sua crumbs.

I made this post mostly so that I don't have to explain all this in other posts when I bring it up, so it's more so something to reference.

Long hair as a marker of attractiveness, AKA value

This one is the most apparent one. Long hair = Femininity. Successful femininity = Attractiveness = Value. Textbook objectification.

Long hair as a marker of attractiveness, AKA the femme fatale

Long hair as the femme fatale is a Mizi specific symbol in Alien Stage. We see this with the contrast of the fake Mizi and real Mizi in True Face. Mizi is not genuinely a femme fatale, but she feels guilty for the male attention that she receives. Her "true face" AKA the evil she perceives in herself, the femme fatale, has long hair while she has short hair. This specific contrast is done in the selfcest art and in the True Face comic itself.

Furthermore, her long hair is shown draped over those with an attraction/interest in her in the moments where she is trying to exert a power dynamic. In the case of Fragile God, I think the position is entirely literal, and the scene is real. In True Face, I have some doubts about how the rejection scene with Till has gone. I'm sure the conversation itself happened, but I can't imagine Till would be very chill about Mizi laughing in his face after he tells her his feelings. The rest of that comic also has a lot of symbolic, less than real Mizi flashbacks, so I think it's safe to say that Mizi is imagining herself draping her beautiful hair over Till as a continuation of her self hatred. She is showing herself as the tease, as the femme fatale, as the one to blame for Till's emotions.

Long hair as a leash/trap/liability

I recognise that all of the mizitill ones are old.

Mizi's long hair is a threat to her freedom. It's a liability during battle. Both symbolically and physically, it restrains her. Symbolically, it is used to show that femininity is a prison for her. Physically, it restrains her during battle. Also physically, it identifies her as Mizi the terrorist after she has gone into hiding, so she has to hide it.

Long hair as a source of distress/overwhelm during moments of stress

This one is very physical, doesn't need a lot of explanation. Long hair is hard to live with

Bonus round! Short hair as a symbol of freedom + a lack of long hair as a symbol of ugliness + Hair change as a symbol of personal growth/deterioration

Short hair as a symbol of freedom is simply the opposite of Long hair as a leash. A lack of long hair as a symbol of ugliness as shown in the birthday art is the opposite to Long hair as a marker of attractiveness.

Hair change as a symbol of personal growth/deterioration is used Everywhere in media. Haircuts to symbolise growth, overgrown hair to symbolise someone not having been taking care of themselves etc. Even Till has this one as shown above. Another media that includes this trope and especially the dichotomy narrative with it is Avatar: the Last Airbender with Zuko and Azula.

Thinking about an au where Clervie decides one day that, well, her Mother is a mortal woman, and mortal women tend to die when you kill them. If there is one guaranteed way to escape the House for a little eight year old girl, it is to depose of Mother and then simply leave in the resulting chaos, to take her brand new best friend in Peruere and walk out.

The two of them fend for themselves for a couple weeks before getting rounded back up again by the Fatui. Hard to miss that Crucabena had a daughter, sure, but more than that the House was made in part for Peruere, this creature from outside Teyvat. Both difficult children to reconcile with losing, and how convenient to find them again together.

But with Crucabena dead so too are her long-term plans, making Clervie a perfectly regular orphan. So she goes to one of Fontaine's orphanages, while the false descender, accursed scion of the Crimson Moon, is corralled off by the Fatui, secreted to somewhere in Snezhanya where Clervie must accept she will never visit.

Clervie is taken in by an older couple, who are sweet enough but, in wishing that Clervie might content herself with living within four walls, harshly misjudge her willingness to betray her own character. Clervie leaves after a time, spends another few years on the road with only her own wit for company. In this time she becomes somewhat sly, clever, in large part due to necessity- she is hounded by the Fatui. She does wonder why, given she is, again, little more than a typical orphan, but to find out would be to allow herself to get too close to them for comfort.

She travels, works one hundred odd jobs for children just beginning to be teenagers, spends one hundred nights beneath the sky and nothing else. It is lonely to be free, but still preferable to the alternative.

Then one day her luck runs out. She wakes up with a knife to her throat and is reminded of how she did away with Crucabena nearly half a lifetime ago. She does not argue with the Fatui Legionnaires when they drag her to Snezhanya. Mortal women do die when they are killed, after all- which is really the only thing that Clervie can assume this is about! It must be that they found out it was her who killed her Mother.

Clervie sits in a jail cell in Snezhnaya and death in the form of a very strange Peruere appears to speak to her. She is recognizable, even despite the years of time between them. She is, after all, Clervie's Perrie. She is a dog known to bite, given to someone who could better take care of her. Yet still it seems she misses her master dearly because Peruere explains that Clervie is here for the express purpose of being trapped in with her again.

Clervie is Peruere's reward for good behavior. Clervie made it out and got dragged back in again, just for Peruere. Clervie needs to hope that Peruere is mortal, because mortal dogs can die, and dead dogs can't get treats.

The one thing she was ever good at was getting out. She just needs to do it again. Starting with getting close enough to kill this Harbinger-raised beast with her friend's face and ending with running out into the snow, not worth the trouble of catching anymore.
