technically kyoshi didn’t have to stay at the gym late just about ever. maybe if there was paperwork or anything more on the business side of things she could be cooped up, but she was her own boss. she picked her hours and when she taught and when she could leave, and really that had been a while ago. she liked to stay though. staying late meant she could see the staff off, do her own workout routine in peace, and do a second small cleanup before locking up. it was practically a regular routine at this point to do it every day she was at the gym. still, she must have gotten particularly caught up today as it was already past midnight when she left, starting her walk down the dark streets to get back to her apartment. she wasn’t too concerned about any potential dangers. even without years of training and self defense her stature on it’s own was enough to make people cautious in approaching kyoshi. seeing someone else was actually a small surprise. “i didn’t expect to see anyone else out.” kyoshi said bluntly as she approached. sure, this was a busy city, with a few stores and restaurants still having signs turned to open, but most in the area were done for the night. kyoshi figured those that wanted to be out for the night would be indoors, doing whatever it was they wanted. clearly that wasn’t completely the case. “it’s late to be just out on your own. are you going to be alright?” she asked, eyes narrow and already prepared to offer to walk the other home if it felt necessary.
BoJack had originally been sitting in the park, watching the stars and thinking about all the people he’d left behind. Not just from ending up in Washington, but those he’d lost along the way. Even his parents got a passing thought. And the more he thought, the emptier the flask he kept in his jacket pocket became. After a few hours, his still contemplation had turned into a staggering search for something stronger to numb the pain and help him forget. Upon finding a liquor store and consuming most of their wares, he’d started to fall asleep outside. He was propped up against a garbage can by his elbow as he sloppily smoked a cigarette. He looked up as he heard a foreign voice, but didn’t quite make out anything they said. “Huh?” was all he’d managed to spit out before being drawn back to the ends of his cigarette which were now starting to burn his fingertips. As she spoke again, he made more of a conscious effort to pay attention. “Is it late? I hadn’t noticed.” he reached for his phone to confirm the time, dropping ash along the screen in the process. “Shit yeah.” he nodded. “Why are you out this late? You seem reasonably well adjusted.”
