many downsides to ibs but one that's definitely up there is entering a public bathroom to find some girls having a heart to heart. maybe one of them is crying. like okay i get it. you're having a moment. it is maybe not ideal to have your wracking sobs interrupted by the sound of someone jumping on a whoopie cushion full of gelatin. i also do not want this to be happening in the middle of your grocery store breakdown. but bathroom technology has not yet advanced to the point of having a special nightmare shits quarantine so we're all just going to have to deal.

Cnetizens:
We need weight loss ads now more than ever. Trump has reinvigorated the Fat Liberation group. The obesity epidemic is at its highest point ever. We need weight loss ads now more than ever.
Lol was this you
Seriously bruh, if you wanna make a case about nutritional defecits and the declining vitamin and mineral content in agricultural produce, the overall failure of public school physical education to provide any productive and meaningful instruction on personal health and correct methods of exercise, the ever-increasing cost of healthy foods, and the frankly shameful rate of child hunger and food waste all collectively contributing to poorer health in persons of ALL body types, I'm happy to play ball, but if the beginning and end of your platform is "there are more fat people than there used to be and being fat is bad so promoting eating disorders and drug abuse is good actually" then you are straight up wasting everyone's time
"Uhhh but everyone was skinny in 1920 look at this "fat lady" who was in a freak show at the circus lol and look how average she would be now" do you have any idea how many vitamins and other supplements we have had to insert into the food and water supply to combat widespread malnutrition in the last several decades
You realize how many people had teeth rotting out of their heads before we put fluoride in drinking water
Jesus fucking christ, google "B12 defecit"
The population was skinnier because we were constantly on the precipice of dying from shit like low zinc, you absolute dingbat
People being 'fatter' than we used to be is a GOOD thing, combating genuine weight-related health issues with a constant barrage of image-critical ads and the promotion of eating disorders in scientifically proven to be harmful and ineffective bullshit, and the fact that thinness as a beauty standard has been pushed to such extremes as intentionally infecting oneself with viruses and parasites amd chemically and surgically-enforced starvation over the past several hundred years only proves that this is not a natural default but a heavily-reinforced and artificial standard
Hey also just from a biologic perspective “humans are naturally skinny” is incorrect. “There weren’t fat people in the past” is an absurd idea cultivated by modern beauty standards that focus on returning us to a “natural” but completely false ideal. If you want proof, there are groups of people alive right now who live the same way that our ancestors did. There are hunter-gather tribes in the Amazon, Africa, Australia, New Guinea, and probably lots of other places around the world, and if you look up pictures of them, they are not skinny toned supermodels. They look like regular people and encompass the same array of body types you’d see at a local supermarket.
Humans having variable metabolisms within the same population is not just normal, it’s fucking awesome. It’s one of the things that made us so adaptable and able to spread across the world. It is quite literally integral to our success as a species. If a drought hits in your small hunter-gatherer community and kills off all your prey, you know who’s going to survive? The people who metabolize fat slower and thus can survive longer without food. That’s why humans are fat sometimes. It’s insurance against uncertain futures.
(And, in fact, people who have immediate ancestors who went through periods of starvation are more like to hold onto fat. If you starve yourself to be skinny, your grandchildren are more likely to be overweight. Diet culture is directly linked to more people being fat. So. There. Source:)
Evidence from human famines and animal studies suggests that starvation can affect the health of descendants of famished individuals.

"'We could only have one child,'' David said quietly. "We thought about adopting, but we decided in the end to just focus on making Shane the best person we could. I think we did an okay job of it.
Ilya smiled at the understatement.
"We couldn't be prouder of the man he's become,' David continued. "I don't have any Stanley Cup rings, but I have Shane.''
Chapter 39, The Long Game
....
It's Christmas of 1988.
There's one more present under the tree, and Yuna's eyes are dancing as she hands it to David. He opens it to find the tiniest pair of shoes he's ever seen.
"No. Really?" He's dizzy.
"Really," Yuna grins, and her eyes are shining with tears, and David loves that face more than anything. He hopes their baby looks just like her.
.....
It's a bitterly cold day in February of 1989 when David puts the shoes away. He pushes down all the anger of it's not fair, why us, why our baby. Yuna needs him.
The doctor had said you're young, you can try again.
uninstall adobe acrobat. it is malware. it has been malware. these aren't opinions: acrobat meets the definition of malware.
it installs a user-login-time "startup" executable that ignores any windows directives to disable it on startup. doing so only removes the even-more-malicious taskbar-icon-creating advertisement-notification-creating process. no matter what you do, the sleeper "updater" process starts when you log in, and runs perpetually
it sends & receives encrypted network traffic both periodically and non-periodically. both are bad, both are suspicious, and a program doing both is more suspicious than the sum of their parts. and to boot: acrobat will polymorphically edit its code after such network activity
this isn't new: it has always done this. now, it does not even do the thing it is meant to: provide a way to interact with documents, which is amongst the very first features computers were built to provide. you can merely open PDFs and read some of their content in the narrow space between the requests for adobe to give them your money, and interface for features you cannot use (because you don't) or do not, have not, and will not ever need
adobe and microsoft would very much like the user's cultural norms around computers to allow for advertisement built into the local software and even operating system itself. the web being 100% advertisements was not enough! sure enough, acrobat will hijack the windows notifications system thing to give you the 2026 equivalent of pop-ups
i don't really know enough about windows software equivalents, so i'll paypal $20 to the first person that reblogs this with a list of 3-5 PDF reader/editor/etc acrobat equivalents that meet the following criteria:
open source, locally-built executables must match checksum of prebuilt distributed executable
no paid features/premium version/subscription/whatever
not a toy hobby project thing, must be windows-users-proof
cheers
Firefox's built-in PDF.js viewer: does everything you could want from a basic viewer, fast enough search, and can now do annotations for filling in forms and such
KDE Okular: is a decent viewer and can also do basic annotations, and is so not-a-toy that you can even download it on the Windows app store.
LibreOffice Draw: I don't ever really like having to open this but if you have to edit a PDF in detail it does work, and doesn't just vomit up a bunch of polygons when you give it text to work with. Better as an authoring tool than an editor.
I've 100% replaced free acrobat with the firefox built-in and it works wonderfully for general office use and research/reading/viewing. It doesn't have robust redaction capabilities, but if you need to fill and sign and highlight a form it's actually much more intuitive than acrobat reader.
idk who needs to hear this but if you have been putting something off bc it doesn't need to be done until the end of the month. we are almost done with the teens we are approaching the big numbers (the twenties). that date shall dawn upon you swiftly and without mercy before you know it. psa for everyone except me i got plany off time
I'm not gonna articulate this well, but there's this phenomenon I keep seeing on the left that I'll call "bean soup rhetoric," wherein someone fails to understand that they are not the target audience for a particular message, or just can't conceptualize why a speaker would craft their message differently to resonate with a target audience that doesn't already completely agree with them.
"The 'God Made Trans People' billboard is stupid! God didn't make me! I'm an atheist!" Okay. The billboard sits along a major highway in Kansas. We can deduce that the target audience is not you—it's the centrist evangelical Christians driving along that road who could probably be persuaded to become allies as long as we choose our words carefully and don't make them feel attacked for not already knowing everything about trans rights issues. Another one I see a lot is, "We shouldn't be talking about how right-wing legislation catches [privileged in-group] in the crossfire when [marginalized out-group] suffers far more!" I know. I agree with you. Which is why you and I are not the intended audience of this argument!
The entire point of rhetoric is to win over someone who doesn't already fully agree with you. In this case, let's say that someone is Jennifer, the moderate center-right mom in your neighborhood who doesn't really know or care about transgender issues but would be absolutely horrified by the idea of her teenage daughter having to submit to an invasive inspection of her body just to be allowed to play soccer. Tell her, "Banning trans students from sports will inevitably subject all student athletes to invasive gender-policing," or "Legal restrictions on gender-affirming care will make it harder for you to access the hormone replacement therapy you take to treat menopause symptoms," and she is more likely to question her existing beliefs and listen to the rest of what you have to say than if you lead with leftist talking points that she already has a calcified opinion about or which she thinks do not personally affect her.
Tailoring the argument to the things she already cares about does not mean we're forgetting that she has more privilege than most—entirely the opposite, in fact. A privileged ally can be extremely valuable. Jennifer votes in every election. And so do all the other ladies at her book club, and church, and in the PTA, and those folks listen to Jennifer. There's a reason both parties were courting suburban women so hard in the last election cycle! If we can find common ground with her on this, if we can get her calling her representatives and talking to her friends and phone-banking and door-knocking and making a stink, that's how the needle starts to move. If I can convince her to take her support away from the candidates who are actively restricting my rights and throw it toward those who want to restore and expand those rights...then I'm sorry, but Jennifer is a more valuable ally to me than the people who agree that the legal boundaries of gender ought to be abolished altogether but refuse to actually do anything except complain online about how both sides are equally bad because the right is trying to force everyone to drink the cyanide kool-aid while the left keeps serving bean soup and they don't like bean soup
Some people blame solely the racism (specifically against people with darker skin) and misogyny in fandom and the prioritizing of white guys on the Source Material. Then in Sinners the most popular guy is the white guy thats the personification of racism assimilation that doesn't appear in half the movie, a movie with 2 michael b jordans and increible black characters. In the locked tomb (book with mostly women) Silas and Colum, 2 white charas who are family and don't appear that much in the first book, have more fics than Coronabeth and Judith, a white woman and a black woman who keep appearing in the story and one of them canonically confessed her love to the other. In BG3 there is more fics with MC X Gortash (light skin bad guy that makes a tiny appearance in act 2 and then appears more in act 3) than MC X Wyll (Black guy who is literally one of the main characters in the game that is also impossible to skip, while you can completelly miss Astarion or Gale on accident). In Dragon Age: The Veilguard Davrin (the black guy) was the guy with less fics before the game was out when no one knew the characters so you couldn't judge in writing or content. In the Bridgerton show the most popular ship is the only main one who features 2 white people, etc etc like it just keeps happening and saying "its the source material, fandom just works with what it has" is just not true. And finding excuses why Every Time Actually It Makes Sense that the fandom would focus in the white guys no matter what show is justs doing mental gymnastic instead of admiting racism and misogyny exist everywhere, including fandom.

Hello, tumblr! I saw something on here the other day that worried me, so I decided to Do Science about it. But I can't do it alone: I need your help to build the dataset!
Here's what I need you to do:
If you see a post with a "mature content" label, and it's 2026, DM me a link to the post.
Yes, that's really it.
I am hoping to collect several thousand such posts, so that I have a decent sized dataset. I do not care what the post is about; if it's labeled as "mature content", I want to add it to my dataset.
If I get 10,000 posts in my dataset before August 31st 2026, I will post my preliminary findings then. I won't feel comfortable calling my findings "settled" before 2027, unless I get over 50,000 posts.
Tumblr Science FAQ, round 1
What's your hypothesis, OP?
I am not talking about that unless I have results to share. That would bias the results.
I did write them down and I did share them with a trusted contact who can prove that I wrote them down the same day I made this post. (While I did so before I made this post, I am not sure they will be able to provide proof of that, because I did so on the same day.)
OP are you interested in...?
Do you have to click through to see the post? Does the clickthrough contain the words "mature content"? Then yes.
OP are you interested if the post is about...?
I am interested in the mature content labels, not the content of the post. Is there a clickthrough that contains the words "mature content"? Then yes.
Tumblr Science FAQ, round 2
Should I reblog this for reach?
Yes, please. I felt really silly when I noticed I forgot to include that in the original post.
Is it okay if I send you my own posts?
Yes, those are perfect for what I'm looking for. I actually need to do some processing on a post to make it useful for testing my hypothesis, and this makes it easy.
Are you looking for "potentially mature content" also, or just "mature content"?
I want both, please. Anything that throws up a blocking screen that you have to click through. The distinctions between them are one of the things I am hoping to study.
Does it matter when the post was made originally?
Technically no. There's no way to respond to this without introducing some bias in the results, and I don't want that. However, I do collect some data on a post as part of making it useful to me, and that data is easier to collect if the post is recent.
What if I request content label review on a post after I send it to you?
I need to see the mature content label to be able to use the post. Because the mature content label hides the content of the post, it is very hard to use a post that no longer has a mature content label. You could send me a screenshot, but people could use that to lie to me.
Basically, it's more work for you to make it usable to me.
OP are you a transphobe? It would ruin the experiment for me if you're a transphobe.
I promise I'm not a transphobe and not doing this for transphobic reasons. You should still double-check that I'm not a transphobe for yourself, though. I am not sure that this study will have the useful effects you're hoping for; I am studying something specific, and it may not be what you hope.

Very reassuring to me that grian is still doing these shitty Ms paint drawings. It's not fair that mumbo and bdubs and scar are so good at drawing AND building, there's gotta be some natural order to these things
Every time exclusionists come up with a new enemy, it seems like the core tenet is, "this group's relative privilege means they should be deprived of, community, resources, compassion, or are otherwise invading and stealing from us, the real oppressed group."
Aro and ace exclusion was like this, they'd say "Asexuals are basically straight, they can just pass as straight, nobody cares if they want to fuck or not, there's aromantic straight man invading Pride, there are quirky asexual straight girls pretending to be queer, asexuals are appropriating Stone and oppressing lesbians."
Bisexual exclusion and it was all, "Bisexuals are basically straight, they can just avoid oppression by being straight, these fucking bisexual women are bringing their homophobic straight boyfriends to pride, bisexual women are appropriating butch and femme, and they can't say dyke, those are lesbian only terms, bisexual women are oppressing lesbians."
And now it's like, "Trans men are basically cis. They can just avoid oppression by saying they are men, these fucking trans men are dangerous rapists who can pretend to be women to avoid consequences, trans men are appropriating T4T, and they can't say tranny, and can't say they were once "eggs", those are trans woman only terms. Trans men are oppressing women."
This isn't even all, transmeds also fit this bill, their enemy is just "the transtrender menace."
Like here we are again, rooting out the fake queers, policing them, traumatizing an entire community, and when we all get embarrassed about how we fell for yet another fucking queer moral panic, the damage will be downplayed, nobody will learn anything and we'll move onto the next secretly privileged queer group who needs to be annihilated in order to defend some poor defenseless women who cannot possibly defend themselves from these ugly mannish straight invaders... huh, wait a second.... why does that sound so familiar?
For those who aren't catching the hint, all of these movements have rhetoric which maps directly onto TERF rhetoric where, "Trans people are privileged invaders, they aren't really oppressed at all, they are dangerous rapists, and mentally ill liars. They are invading lesbian communities, and transing the remaining lesbians, and trans people's very existence is an existential threat to women."
