one of my favorite things about bbc merlin is how chill everybody was with murder. "but I thought it was a family show—" well, yes! the first episode begins with merlin arriving to camelot and witnessing a public execution. in all forms of arthuriana, everybody is a killer! people die all the time. who cares? merlin kills at the end of the first episode and just never stops! he obliterates two people with a magic staff in the seventh episode. he does it to save arthur! arthur has been trained to kill since birth! he drops lore about how he had to kill a guy who challenged him— he says this after that guy's father appears and tries to get revenge!

both arthur and merlin are murderers! they're also so much fun! they banter! they flirt! they're coworkers! they're in love! they'd rather die than admit anything outright! they kill for each other! for over a decade, arthur didn't know that merlin had been killing people weekly to protect him! arthur finally learns that as he's dying. he thanks merlin and then he dies in his arms! bbc merlin is one of the most shows of all time.
