Instinct is a funny thing. Miss Pauling doesn’t have time to think through her reaction, which is to defend herself with her clipboard. Something that is highly ineffective against a fast-moving, heavy cleaver.

Her clipboard breaks in half, making confetti of her papers, and serving to onlybarely deflect the blow. The force knocks her hard on her back, blade lodging in the sinew of her shoulder in an explosion of blood.

If she’d been close to a wall, it would’ve pinned her to it, no doubt.

Jari stands there to watch the blood for a moment, the thrill of seeing blood splatter in the dust sets off that familiar feeling inside of him he hasn’t felt for months. Once Pauling hits the ground, he hovers over her.

“I’m gettin’ a hint of deja vu, Pauling, what about you?” Without warning, he holds her down by her other shoulder and quickly yanks the cleaver out of the wound.

“Yeah, I think so. Plus, you’ll get to be my first victim after my..., ” Jari pauses, thinking for the right word, using air-quotes, “’Hibernation’.” He flings the cleaver at the woman, aiming for her upper body.

It wouldn’t be quiet for long as Jari kicked the door open and stumbled into the bar, mumbling angrily under his breath. His shirt was spattered with blood and he carried a bloodied femur in his left hand. He walked up to the bartender and slammed the femur on the table loudly, ignoring the stares he got from the other customers.

“Gimmie yah strongest shit,” he ordered. Normally he wouldn’t drink, but screwing up a kill was enough to make him want something to tear up his insides. He was off his game today and it pissed him off.

Due to more financial issues, I’m re-opening commissions. They are not as ‘emergency’ as the situation that made me open them last time when I couldn’t pay rent, but I’m opening them now so I’m not totally broke.

The Brutal awakens with a sudden sense of urgency; anxiety. The want- no, the need to kill and run off with a human bone, specifically a large one. Femur. Male. Now. Not a moment passes before he’s up and downing his first can of Bonk! before grabbing a femur bone and... oh, right. He still needs to buy another cleaver after sticking his old one in some Spy’s back. It can’t be helped now. He’ll make do with a particularly sharpened bone of unknown origin.

The first thing the thief does is head downtown. A half-moon floating in the starless night sky. Without thinking, he’s heading inside the store he usually goes in to buy Bonk! and nails a Scout in the head with the larger end of the femur bone. The cashier barely looks surprised anymore considering he’s seen this happen a million times only to have them come back the next day.

The knocked out boy is dragged from the store and into a dark alleyway. He sits him up against the wall and lifts one of the kid’s legs, aiming the sharpened bone at his thigh when his attention shifts to footsteps nearby. He doesn’t turn to look, but he does stop moving completely, listening for cues that would tell him if it was a late night police officer or just some civilian.
