âI said to my boy, âHow would you feel if I went in Mardi Gras, as a parent transgender supporter?â He went âOh yeah, oh yeah!â and I said âFuck, I guess Iâm doing it then!ââ
Buzzfeed writes on the incredible float in the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras parade dedicated to celebrating families with transgender kids, and the parents who love and support them.
In the article, Buzzfeed narrates the stories of specific individuals, from parents finding trans parent groups surprisingly comfortable environments, to transgender teens finding community through secret Facebook groups and group chats.
In the parade, in the open, all participants exude in a shocking euphoria.Â
âBeing trans is not a sad story. And itâs not a new story. The only sad part is the way other people react.â

Men donât give us anything, we simply make it untenable for them to continue denying us what is rightly ours.Â

WHAT ARE PRIDE PARADES REALLY ABOUT?
Over 200 different groups participated in Chicagoâs pride parade this year. As usual, hundreds of thousands of people showed up to view the event in one way or another. Personally, I went to promote Project Queer and document what I saw. And honestly, what I saw sickened me.Â
Above is a pie chart that I made using a list of pride parade participants (found here).
The findings were as follows:
CORPORATION/BUSINESS/BANKS: 132
RELIGIOUS: 11
MILITARY/POLICE: 6
HEALTH & EDUCATION: 23
POLITICIANS: 34
LGBTQ GROUPS: 11
BISEXUAL/QUEER GROUPS: 1
QPOC GROUPS: 5
TRANS GROUPS: 1
OTHER: 29
The âotherâ consists of local sports teams, dance groups, environmental groups, animal rights groups. etc. Draw your own conclusions. I will be writing more about this later.
depressing as fuck, especially considering prideâs radical origins.

âPolitical correctnessâ is a concept invented by the privileged to transform basic respect into something political and therefore controversial.
