#SuicidePreventionMonth continues. If you need help and you feel you can't reach out to someone close try the following #crisisline from all over the world. This is also a reminder that #suicide is the 10th leading cause of #death in the country which is 1) preventable if treated properly + 2) unacceptable. It's a shame on our cities, states, and country's laws don't work harder to prevent it. The last slide is to let any #suicidesurvivor that... I'm here too. Part of the problem is the #language we use on the regular and as #slurs against people with #mentalhealth illnesses aka #Stigma. Something you can do is to, 1) consciously phase out stigmatized MH language from your own life and 2) stop those who are. We're not #specialsnowflakes , we are not faking, these are real illnesses. #stigma only validates the dark thoughts and places in our brain. It's #suicidepreventionmonth this small change can make a difference in many people's lives. #suicideprevention #endthestigma

TW: #suicide #selfharm As a 4x #suicidesurvivor I have a personal obligation to post this even if I just had surgery and can't function or focus that well. Today is the first day of #SuicidePreventionMonth . As someone who has #bipolar and has been trapped in the darkest and scariest places in my brain, to know what it's like to rock back and forth, my hands trying to crush my skull or beat the thoughts out of me. Yelling in pillows, crying uncontrollably during a severe episode. When self harm, for me it was branding/burning, is the only "logical answer to make the pain. Just. Stop. Being an atheist hiding underneath the sink locked in the bathroom crying, yelling, PLEADING to god and Jesus to just take it all out or let me go because you think you can't make it another day. When sleeping isn't resting-it's just a way to turn off the world and then having to wake up in hell everyday with the thought that there's no one to reach out to for support...you no longer remember happy memories or what happy means... PLEASE, please try to reach out to anyone who is #suicidal or having #suicidalideations (they've made a plan on how to "move to that better place.") I urge you to learn the symptoms- know the signs. Spread the crisis lines, text lines. Or call 911, or take them to the ER, encourage a #5150 hold for their best interests. Some hospitals have great behavioral health departments that can really flip the switch to finally allowing people to learn how to address and treat the causes... #EndStigma or stigmatized language on the spot to friends or anyone. Today is #WorldEatingDisorderDay #WeDoAct2017 #worldedday These are the 9 truths we are fighting for, if you believe in them there's still time to take the pledge: https://worldeatingdisordersday.wordpress.com/you-can-get-involved-and-make-a-difference/get-involved/ My experience with #eatingdisorders is a long a difficult one because I've never wanted to talk about my weight to anyone, ever but that's not a choice anymore. I first started in elementary school where I was bullied for being fat and I was put on a strict diet, forced on a treadmill for 30-60 min, and was told by some family members that I was going to die if I didn't lose weight and ALWAYS commented about it. That's where my #bingeeatingdisorder began. In high school I "grew up" to becoming #anorexic and #bullimic . I was so busy w/ social justice issues, my symptoms were ignored by my family and teachers. Little did they know I was purging in the bathroom all the time, my teeth yellowing and corroding, didn't have any sort of appetite unless it was popping pills and drinking. I had lost about 100lbs in just a few months, passing out at school and home bc I had no strength. Luckily my mom intervened and got me my therapist about my depression that developed. In college I continued my behaviors getting to 109 lbs - one pound away from my Drs "goal weight" for me". Everyone was oblivious. I still didn't tell anyone, even those there to help me. I got to Disney and my symptoms came back again. I was purging, not eating at all, drinking just energy drinks, and all I could hear ppl talking about was weight loss. I've gained a lot of weight recently so I'm fighting my urges not to eat, not to purge, not to binge eat but the pain and scars I have had since I was 7 will have its moment now. I promise I'm going to be completely honest with my psych and therapist because I can feel my body aching again.

carrie fisher isn’t just princess leia. carrie fisher isn’t just an actress we all admire from a famous series of movies made a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. carrie fisher isn’t just another name on the list of shitty things 2016 has done to people i admire.

carrie fisher is a woman who struggled with addiction and mental illness and never sugar coated it - she spoke honestly, openly, about every ugly truth, and made me so much less ashamed of the things i struggle with in my daily life.

carrie fisher is a woman who fought back against body shaming and misogyny, against agesim, who looked at critics and said “yes, i am a woman who has aged, and had children, and struggled with depression and addiction and my body has changed, so you can just shut the fuck up and deal with it”, and it was absolutely beautiful.

carrie fisher is a woman who was placed in the role of “princess” but didn’t conform to the typical hollywood idea of what a princess should be. she’s loud, brash, crass, and unapologetic for being so.

she’s an idol and an inspiration and she’s a woman who saved my life many times just by being who she was and never shying away from it or feeling the need to say sorry. carrie fisher is so much and more and i cannot begin to stomach the thought of 2016 taking her away from me, from her family, from the rest of the world and those of us who love her so dearly.
