And I have to admit that I no longer have any idea what the fuck most of you are talking about.

Happy Pride!
Every pride, you must reblog this. No exceptions
I love that four different people on my feed scheduled this joyous person to reblog by 8am on June 1. I look forward to seeing this a dozen more times today.
U2 3D premiere, 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
I cannot emphasize this enough
RIP to the legend
This goose fucking rocks and had a crazy life!
I really just have to summarize Thomas's entire life:
He was in a committed relationship with a male swan named Henry for 18-24 years before a female swan named Henrietta showed up and mated with Henry.
Thomas was initially jealous of the pair and attacked them, breaking 2 of the 5 eggs Henrietta had laid. However, once the remaining eggs hatched, Thomas warmed up to them and helped raise them.
Henry couldn't fly because of an injured wing, so Thomas taught the cygnets how to fly.
When they needed to reduce the goose population in the pond where Thomas and the swans lived, they dyed Thomas's feathers red so he wouldn't be separated from Henry.
Henry, Henrietta, and Thomas remained in their happy throuple for years and raised 68 cygnets before Henry died in 2009. After Henry's death, Henrietta found another swan and flew away, leaving Thomas alone.
Thomas finally met and mated with a female goose in 2011 and had his own babies. However, another goose named George stole them and raised them himself.
As Thomas grew elderly and blind, he was relocated to a wildlife center where he raised orphaned cygnets.
His caretaker at the center described him as "pretty high maintenance."
Thomas died in 2018 at the age of around 40. He had a funeral that included a small coffin and a procession that was led by a bagpiper. He was buried under the stone where Henry was buried, the two finally reunited in death.
Before and after his death, Thomas has been celebrated as an icon of the LGBTQ+ community for obvious reasons.
"Israel is a tactical mistake because if antisemites were only exposed to Jews they'd stop hating them!"
...I was going to write a long rant about Nazi Germany and really the entire fucking history of Europe and the Middle East, but then I realized I have a better example: Western universities, especially post-'23.
People have harassed, attacked, verbally abused and threatened their Jewish classmates and colleagues as though they had fucking quotas to fill. They've HAD exposure to Jews and nope, still raging antisemites.
The only people more antisemitic than those with no Jews around are those with Jews around
I could write about being a child in the 1970s in suburban Long Island! A third of my elementary school was Jewish. Not "visually" Jewish, but "assimilated" and wearing the same shitty flared pants with funny applique patches as everybody else. The other two thirds repeated their Irish/Italian/German-American parents' bullshit about Jews (and Black people) all day long, right in our faces. For reference, I'm from the same town as Jerry Seinfeld.
that's it that's the post
I think I know what this is talking about but I am not sure
Jordan was carved from British Mandate Palestine, just like Israel, when it became a country in 1946, but nobody in the Free Palestine movement says it should be dismantled.
So it is (part of) what I thought it was
Is it not also true that Jordan has and has pretty much always had a VERY large population of people who are considered/considere themselves to be Palestinians? Like a decent chunk of the country’s population, in effect making Jordan a de facto Palestinian state
You get an A+
Jordan was in fact founded to be the Palestinian state (as much as anything could be before "Palestinian" was invented as movement identity, much less discrete and exempt culture. Palestinian meant anyone hanging out in the British Mandate, usually Jews. The other present cultures included flavors like Levantine Arab.)
It's a slight oversimplification maybe, but the reality is that in the 1940's the entire issue was not framed as it is now, which makes it especially egregious when people talk about it as if it's been Israelis vs Palestians since '48. Those just weren't the 2 involved parties, it's a major fallacy.
The wild thing about Jordan is that if everyone were being honest, if there wasn't a scam being run, is that the Israeli Palestinian conflict would hardly exist. I stand by that.
To give a bit of nuance, it's also more that the British gave the land to an Arab royal family (the Hashemites) to rule over. The Hashemites did once rule over a kingdom. So it's a bit like if some Imperial power decided to allocate a piece of land for a deposed German duke family (there's many from the former Holy Roman Empire) to rule
Yep. But if you say "hey y'all were literally installed by a colonial power" it doesn't go over well from what I hear
Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son? Oh, what did you see, my darling young one?
literally every single time someone says we should "bring back the guillotines", you can automatically translate that to "i have literally not a single fucking clue about the country, time period and event related to what i'm saying"
now i do the same whenever people say "Why are Jews doing what happened to them to Palestinians?!"
Like oh okay so you just straight up do not know a single thing about the Holocaust.
Everything is fandomified. When you flatten history down so much that it loses any sense of context and meaning then you can apply anything to any situation with twee slogans. And the only endpoint is creating an excuse to inflict violence.
