Isaiah's right. I'm seeing some people say the show is demonizing Isaiah by having Sam take up the shield. Sam most definitely didn't demonize Isaiah. Sam literally told Sarah that he'd feel the same way if the same thing had happened to him. But he's choosing his own path and making his own decision and not letting the past and other people (Steve or Isaiah or Bucky) make up his mind for him. He's deciding for himself and crafting a new legacy. He's an optimist and where others see doom, Sam sees hope. And there's nothing wrong with that. No one is wrong here.
the fact that bucky could sleep on the couch rather than the floor in sam's house, the fact that he seems to have slept through the night, the fact that when he hears sounds he doesn't jerk awake in terror, the fact that he just seems genuinely at ease around sam and his family, the fact that he uses his metal arm openly and to help rather than kill, the fact that when sam asks about his nightmares he doesn't even bother to lie like he does to his therapist, the fact that he actually opens up to sam instead of keeping it all locked up, the fact that he admits to thinking the shield was the only family he had left in past tense after spending time with the wilsons, the fact that-
LOOK AT MY CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!
ANTHONY MACKIE and ADEPERO ODUYE as SAM and SARAH WILSON in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Episode 5 “Faith”
Bucky don’t be like that, Joaquin only wants to be friends with you too
sam is the smart independent got her shit together romcom protagonist from a small town and bucky is the i don’t wanna be tied down free spirit thot love interest from the big city. and ep 5 was the penultimate scene of the romcom where bucky realized he did some dumb shit to hurt sam and doesn’t want to lose him so he’s rushing to sam’s hometown to make it up to him but also has to be casual about it bc this is all new territory for him. and instead of an airport running scene it’s handing over zemo to right his wrongs and asking a favor from ayo whom he is NOT in the position to be asking favors from all in the hopes of making sam happy. complete with the quietly helping sam out around the house when he gets there and nervously waiting for sam to initiate if he could stay instead of outright asking
Isaiah Bradley did pretty much exactly what Steve Rogers did. He went against express orders to do the right thing; he broke POW’s that the top brass had written off as expendable out of captivity and saved countless lives. He was a hero.
When Steve returned to his superiors, what did he get? A round of applause. Total forgiveness and praise. His fake rank of Captain turned into a real one despite his total lack of experience and training. A new fancy shield. A special squad of his friends given carte blanche to go on secret missions. A media tour. His face on magazines. TV specials. A place in the history books as a perpetual hero of our times.
What did Isaiah get? 30 years of imprisonment, torture, experimentation. He was vilified for doing the exact same thing that Steve was lauded for. Separated from his family, treated as a criminal, dehumanised and degraded. A lifetime of trauma served to him by the very country that he gave everything up for.
His story mirrors not just the African-American victims of human experimentation in the US but also the treatment of black soldiers who had given up everything to fight for the US in WWII and returned to violence and discrimination, and the plight of African-American soldiers fighting in Korea immediately after desegregation of the army. His erasure from the history books parallels the real erasure of almost a million black veterans of WWII from the documentary evidence of the war.
Though Isaiah Bradley is fictional, his story and treatment are firmly based in reality. I have to applaud everyone involved in this production, but particularly Malcolm Spellman, Carl Lumbly and Anthony Mackie, for bringing this character and story to life in such a impactful way, on one of the biggest stages that they could. Millions of Americans will now be reckoning with a disgraceful part of their history (and present) that has been ignored and covered up for so long, and that’s truly powerful.
This was, by far, the most human episode I've ever seen. Maybe even in all of the mcu.
Sam still being considerate of Walker after he just murdered someone. (that takes A LOT. we've always seen superheroes let their fist do the talking first)
Sam and Torres just having a casual conversation with each other, and the mentor-student vibe of Sam passing down the wings to him.
Walker's breakdown when he was discharged. (Wyatt Russell was incredible)
The American government not being able to tolerate what their country represents, because that's exactly what Walker is. A human form of the USA.
Zemo and Bucky. The relief written all over Bucky's face when he takes back control of his narrative.
Ayo going back to calling Bucky, "White Wolf", the reestablishment of trust and the small smile she gives him.
The whole scene with Isaiah and Sam. Everything about it. (I will be elaborating later, when my brain isn't so scrambled)
Sam coming back home, to where he's most comfortable, being among people he knows and loves.
Bucky and Sam fixing the boat. Do I need to explain?
Walker straight up lying to Lemar's family to make himself feel better. (let's be honest, it was a dick move, but it was human. People do that sometimes)
Bucky coming to terms with the fact that it was wrong for him to keep shoving Steve's legacy in Sam's hands (realizing a mistake and accepting that you were wrong is an incredibly human thing to do)
Bucky actually apologising to Sam. Not your dudebro or some superhero type bs. He actually apologized. With words.
Sam and Bucky talking it out. I'm pretty sure this was the longest emotional conversation in all of mcu (again, I need to ramble about this later)
Sam and Sarah talking. Sarah telling him how much she believes in him.
"what's the point of all that pain and sacrifice if I wasn't willing to stand up and keep fighting?"
there is not a single role chris pratt does that jack black couldn’t do better
at the people saying jack black couldn’t play star lord: why? no really, go ahead and tell me. I think I know the answer but I want to hear you say it.
