Is BookTok Overhyped???

BookTok has become a huge part of the reading community, but I think it can be little overhyped at times. It’s a great way to find new books and get recommendations from other readers. I’ve discovered several books through BookTok that I probably never would have picked up on my own. At the same time, it seems like the same popular books are recommended over and over again, which can get repetitive. There are so many amazing books that don’t get much attention because they aren’t trending. Overall, I think BookTok is a fun tool for readers, but it shouldn’t be the only place people look for book recommendations. I recommend finding book suggestions through book stores, friends, Goodreads, etc.

Book Fair

This past Saturday, i attended a book fair in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was so cool to walk around to all of the different booths. There were probably 50 different booths, and each one had something different to offer. I ended up purchasing a new kindle case, a few stickers, a new romance book, and a crewneck. I also ordered a chai tea from a coffee stand, but it was way to spicy for my liking LOL. One section of the fair was just authors and their books. There were so many different genres, including children's books, fantasy, mystery, etc. It was so interesting to be able to talk to the authors and hear more about their thought process when it comes to their books.

Reading Genres

Since I started reading, romance has been my go-to genre because I love the emotions, character development, and guaranteed happily-ever-afters. No matter how many books I read, I always find myself reaching for another romance novel. Lately, though, I've been wanting to branch out and explore other genres. I think reading outside of romance could introduce me to new themes and perspectives that I might enjoy just as much. While romance will probably always be my favorite genre, I'd like to challenge myself to try more fantasy, and mystery thriller books to become a more well-rounded reader.

Fever Dream

Since I sadly had to take a break from the Briar U series, I started reading Fever Dream by Elsie Silver! I LOVEEEE Elsie Silvers other books such as the Chestnut Springs Series. With that being said, Fever Dream is kind of hard for me to get into. The story line is a little strange in my opinion. The mmc is a rodeo boy who is going on a dating show, kind of like the bachelor?? I think it also might be putting my in a reading slump because I really wanted to finish the Briar U series. I am going to buy the fourth book in Briar U today though!!!

Best Book of All Time

Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan is honestly my favorite book of all time, and I recommend it to pretty much everyone. I've read a lot of romance books, but this one stands out because of how emotional and meaningful the story is. Archer and Bree's relationship feels so genuine, and I found myself getting really attached to both of them. Archer is one of my favorite book characters ever because of his backstory and everything he overcomes throughout the book. This book made me feel every emotion possible, and I was completely invested from beginning to end. If you're looking for a romance that will stay with you long after you finish it, I highly recommend Archer's Voice. There is even a second book called Travis that follows Archer's brother. Both books are equally good, and they are my #1 book recommendations.

The Dare

I’m actually so sad that The Dare by Elle Kennedy isn’t on Kindle Unlimited. It’s the last book in the Briar U series, and I’ve heard so many good things about Taylor and Conor’s story. We heard a lot about Conor in the 3rd book, so I was really excited when I heard he was the mmc in The Dare. I love Elle Kennedy’s books because they’re such an easy and fun read, with the perfect mix of romance, humor, and college drama. From what I’ve seen, The Dare has a really sweet relationship and great character development, which makes me want to read it even more. It’s so disappointing that after reading other books in the series, I have to buy this one separately instead of getting it through Kindle Unlimited.

My Next Read

After I finish the last book in the Briar U series, I want to start reading the Hunger Games books. I absolutely LOVE the movies, but have somehow never read the series. For Christmas, I was gifted a special edition series with sprayed book edges. They are literally to die for!!! I have never read a series like The Hunger Games, because I usually stick more to the romance side. While Hunger Games does have a bit of romance between Katniss and Peeta, its not the biggest problem. I am also super excited for The Sunrise on the Reaping movie coming out in November, and I am hoping I will get through the whole series by then!!

The Play

I just finished reading "The Play" by Elle Kennedy! This was the third book in the Briar U series, and it was amazing! This book's main characters were Hunter Davenport and Demi Davis, who started off as friends, but their friendship grew into something deeper. When Demi Davis gets cheated on by her current boyfriend, Hunter is there to comfort her. I love tropes like this because they show how important it is to be friends with your partner, too! The humor between the two of them is unmatched and had me giggling throughout the book. This book was amazing, and Elle Kennedy always does an amazing job at creating sweet college romances! I can't wait to read the fourth book in the series, but sadly, it is not on Kindle Unlimited :( I think I will have to run to Barnes & Noble today to pick it up!

Reading Slumps

Being in a reading slump can feel so frustrating, especially when summertime is usually my favorite time to catch up on my books. Reading slumps can come from so many different things, such as being too busy or tired to pick up and flip through pages. One helpful tip I have learned is to switch genres to something lighter and faster-paced. Audiobooks can also make reading feel easier and more relaxing. My mom is the type of girl who LOVES audio books. She listens to them in the car, on the couch, or even while getting ready for the day. I would love to get into audiobooks because I think it's an easy way to get back into reading and to keep my mind occupied. That said, reading should be enjoyable. Find something you love and do not force it!!!!

Off Campus x Briar U

So, as I stated in my first post, I am currently reading the Briar U series. That series is kind of a spin-off of the series Off Campus. Both series feature similar characters, and they are from the same universe/ hockey team. I read the Off-Campus before Briar U, and it was SOOOO good. Last Wednesday, the TV series for Off Campus was released, and this was a huge deal for all of the book lovers. The show was a little cringey, but I think that is what made it even better lol! I wonder if they will make a TV show for Briar U!!??!

Kindle Vs. Paper Back

Reading on a kindle and reading a paper back feel completely different, even though the story is the exact same. With a kindle everything is quick and convenient. I can "carry" multiple books and read pretty much anywhere. With this being said, paperbacks feel more personal. I like turning the pages and seeing the progress I have made. In my opinion kindles are easier, but paperbacks feel realer. I do like switching between the two, depending on what I am reading or what is offered on the kindle. Recently, for the Briar U series I have been using my kindle. The whole series is offered through Kindle unlimited so it is super easy and convenient to access the books.

Back to Reading

With the spring semester ending, I finally have time to read again, which I am really excited about!!! I am starting with romance books because they are definitely my favorite genre. Right now I am reading the Briar U series and I am currently on the third book. This series consists of a group of hockey boys as they balance being college athletes and finding relationships. Through this blog, I plan to keep track of what I read and my thoughts on the chapters/books. I have missed getting lost in a book, so I am excited to get back into reading and maybe find some new favorite books along the way.
