Digging this out of my drafts because I have more thoughts on Dara and Ali as foils

Both of them were raised to serve as someone else’s sword. Dara for the Nahids, and Ali for Muntadhir. BUT they both end up getting saved by the very people they were sworn to protect

Dara was brought back from DEATH by Nahid blood not once, but twice.

Ali was saved by Muntadhir jumping in front of a poisoned blade for him, nearly dying himself.

BUT there’s a clear difference in WHY each of them were saved.

Muntadhir jumped in front of the poisoned sword because he couldn’t watch his baby brother die. He was willing to give his own life for his love of Ali.

Manizheh revived Dara both times. First it was using the blood of her murdered brother, and second it was using the bones of her ancestors who were never put to rest. The people whose blood and bodies were sacrificed for Dara had NO CHOICE in the matter. He was never brought back for love. Only for his usefulness. Kinda dehumanizing imo but that happens to him a lot.
