arthur is technically 50 years old this year because marc brown published arthur's nose in 1976. it's wild that he's been around for so long! i haven't posted any fanart in ages, so i made this to celebrate. i probably should've drawn something in february since that's when the book was published, but arthur's birthday works too haha

may the most famous cartoon aardvark in history persist for another 50 years !! ❤️

The town I grew up in has its public library on the corner of Arthur Avenue. I spent many of my formative years at that library. When the "Arthur" show first came out, little kid me was amused for quite a while by the coincidence of Arthur having an interest in books and libraries, and he goes to a school called Lakewood.

Our "treehouse" was a single wood platform made from a leftover stockade fence panel, put up in a vacant lot tree by a group of us 8-to-10-ish year old neighborhood kids who had no idea what we were doing. Completely unsafe.

I think we used it for a week before a storm blew it out of the tree.

Sue Ellen's part in "Besties" where she tells Arthur about how she was replaced in her previous group of friends is ironic and meta af considering her personality and backstory were more or less cloned for Ladonna (both have an interest in different cultures, both families constantly move because of their fathers' jobs, both moved to Elwood City during the winter).

In addition to the bad CGI, the awkward partial voice cast was another problem that plagued Arthur’s Missing Pal. Like you had Daniel Brochu and Bruce Dinsmore (credited with pseudonyms because of some union thing) while all of the other voices were replaced. I would have loved to see a feature length movie animated in the style of “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll.” It had such a cinematic look to it that no other special had, not even “Arthur’s Perfect Christmas.”
