Just finished reading Aeschylus’ Prometheus and boy oh boy if that guy ain’t got that sass in him

Last ten pages were just him and Hermes dissing each other, so obv I had to draw smth

Hi there!! I’m in an extremely similar boat as you regarding the Dead Three (was in a Curse of Strahd campaign as a player where they featured much more heavily than the module intended and then got obsessed with them) and your take on their mortal forms is just amazing!! Their designs are so striking, and gremlin Bhaal is forever the best. I hope you like it!

SHEET I NEVER POSTED BC THERE’S SOME NAKEY ASS AND IT WAS A PERSONAL STUDY (I don’t think Bhaal has a tongue piercing in canon but I could think about it for a modern AU)

This is all god Bhaal, years and years after the Dead Three Shenaningans and years after being destroyed

Doesn’t ask me how, but in my Curse of Strahd Campaign he physically came back (probably using some of his Bhaalspawn), but has been declassed as a minor god or so, so now he’s doing basic patron shit and asking for sacrifices to grow his power back

Let’s rewind a bit and talk about god Bhaal

Bhaal kept his personality. His smartass and his irony and bitchyness, but lost all of his “sense of danger”

Although chaotic, mortal Bhaal was somehow careful, still: he was a fighter and knew his body and his limits pretty well, so he knew when to stop and what could hurt him seriously or kill him. And he couldn’t afford to die before ascending to godhood, so he was careful

Now, immortal and almighty, this sense of danger disappeared. He’s his most reckless self, loud, selfish and uncaring, to a degree he had never reached in his life

He views mortals as inferior, little bugs to use and squash if they misbehave and wants his full power back to get revenge over Bane and Myrkul for turning their backs at him (I should def reread their wikis bc I’m sure I’m missing smth)

When I say he’s bad, he’s bad.

Regarding his design, I basically just took the basic description and ✨yassified✨ it

So he’s covered in open cuts, dripping black blood and all kinds of gross stuff (this is why I often draw him with black lips and blue tongue/gums) - somewhere I even trespassed the body horror confine a little bit and drew him with his interiors dripping out

Just to let you grasp what kind of horror of a man he is although I always draw him pretty

His mostly dressed like he was in his mortal life, aside for his gambeson, which he ditched once he understood he couldn’t be killed anymore, and a few other details, like furs and golden detailing here and there

Honorable mention to the furs on his jacket: as a add-on to his “not being like other mortal beings” I always draw it with some kind of will of its own, but most part of this will is just used to take the shape of devil horns around Bhaal’s head

So this these are the three siblings, I’m later gonna do the ladies but I felt too inspired for them and so now there’s gonna be a little rant (embrace yourself, sorry for the bad English it’s not my first language).

First I wanted to talk about how all of Kronos kids will have something in common, and in Zeus’s case it’ll be incredibly evident: gold and white. Kronos, in my vision, has golden eyes, an albino skin and pearly white hair (yes I will do a design for him at one point). He haunts the narrative, it might not be as evident as when the Olympians are kids but after the titan war it’ll have a GREAT impact on them, seeing the familiar traits of the father who literally ate them in themselves will most definitely not be fun.

Poseidon has some naturally white streaks in his hair, Hades has Kronos golden eyes, Zeus has A L L, from the albino skin to the golden eyes and the white hair.

POSEIDON!!

Poseidon is the one who I actually like the most in this drawing, his hair are always floating almost as if they’re under water and they can only get longer and longer as time goes, he has a tendency to playfully hide around the corals, the seashell on his necklace is actually just a normal seashell he found and that he liked particularly because he felt like it could glow and every time he put his ear against it he felt like he was in the water again. He is naturally tanned, wanted also to give some vibes of not only the Mediterranean but also some island like vibes, hope it can make sense as much as it does to me hahaha.

ZEUS!!

I really wanted to show that he IS the youngest, he plays around, appears out of the clouds in with his childish like attitude, clouds change their colours and cloud the skies based on his mood. He’s still always found in the clouds, till recent times he rarely comes down from them and Olympus if not for his…well, mortal encounters… His design is actually mostly inspired by Hercules the Disney movie since I was and still am such an obsessed little art kid.

His hair are made of fluffy clouds he still has no idea how to take care of, has no control whatsoever over his lightings, he just knows that if he tries enough one or two my bolt through the sky.

HADES!!

As Orpheus once beautifully sang “King of shadows, king of shades” Hades’s design is pretty simple, even more then Zeus’s. His hair are made of actual moving shapes, it’s hard for him to have a tidy hair style like he’d like, he likes order. His limbs since he was a newborn has this weird black translucent effect that just kept on growing as he grew more and more (yes, obviously inspired from Hades but can you blame me? That game’s my favourite). To this day the translucent effect showing his whole skeleton now reached almost his jaw, the shadows became easier to tame but he could never control the fading until one day it just stopped. His skin colour is actually pretty greyish, dead like, he was a skinny kid but he has always been tall and most importantly, he’s always knew how to deal the business behind the great things of life, like death, the shadows and the richness that lets you live peacefully, for that he always kept a little sack of money to his side.

As I’ve said before, his eyes are as golden as his father’s and after being freed out of his stomach and after winning the Titan war he’ll have a very similar golden scar to him, imma just say a n g s t .

JUST SOME PALE KING THOUGHTS

I’ve been doing some consideration about the Pale King tonight, so now everyone will know too. Be ready to read.

When leaving his Wyrm body, I like to think everything of him adapted to become smaller, more portable, more…mortal. So did his wings (as well as his horns): the Pale King still has his very own set of wings but he can no longer soar throughout Hallownest, cause now said wings are too small and frail to be able to substain his weight, although contained. They’re no more than a distant echo of what they were on the great Wyrm, just like the entirety of this body the Pale King chose is.

I think he misses his old shape more than anything, mostly when the infection started taking over Hallownest and he hid inside the White Palace, alone and paranoid as he was

His wings are now just a status symbol, like his crown his, this is why the monarch’s wings ability can be acquired (although I think it just unlocks the ability of vessels to flap their pre-existing wings, a gift from their royal legacy)

On this same line, his entire of body adapted so well to being “more mortal” that he now has to control his own features: he usually looks composed, white empty eyes and big set of horns/crown, but when he gets too emotional (angry, mostly) his appearance starts to shift towards more “mortal” features. His eyes grow irises and pupils, his horns retire in some kind of little tiara barely protruding from his forehead and he becomes someone with a very very bad temper to deal with

The more he lives in Hallownest, torn by his own paranoia, the more he strays further from his “Higher Being” origin. The more he gets attached to earthly stuff, the more he gets earthly

+all of his children look more like him than their mother

White hair, fair skin and an impeccable stone face (for those who are lucky enough to have a face)(having a face means having some kind of humanity and void beings do not have it. The Hollow Knight is a special case cuz they got attached to the Pale King and they’re not entirely empty and void)

Hornet is a great example of this, due not being void and cause I’ve voluntarily done her vastly different from herrah and very like the pale king, just to underline the fact that his genes are very much dominant in all of his kids traits

SOME OTHER PALE KING RANT WHILE I PLAY SILKSONG

Sooo sketches are from before Christmas but I just built up the energy to make another “long” post here on tumblr so HERE WE GO I HOPE YOU ENJOY

So I was going through my second hollow knight playthrough and the Cast-off Shell Area made me think about how could it have been for the Pale King to be…reborn if I can say so

In pic above I decided to explore his Wyrm shape, his original, higher-being shape (I know he should have way less limbs -hence, Wyrm- but I liked the idea of him having way too many hands too much to leave it out)

For starters, he was big. Big and well-ordered. This is still some kind of mortal-ish shape, but the big difference in Wyrm VS Pale King is that Wyrm shape is what could be described as “perfect”: tidy, clean, calm and collected, all-knowing and all-doing. Everything down to his hairstyle is perfectly ordered, not a fold or hair out of place.

This is hat differentiates him from the Pale King: the Pale King gives all of himself to try and achieve that perfection he used to have, that higher-being aura which always surrounded him, forgetting he is now not much more than a mortal being, a bug like others. His calm became paranoia and his perfect crown hairstyle became let down, pin-straight hair

Here’s a face comparison between Wyrm and Pale King (in his most mortal form)

The Wyrm has big empty eyes and no mouth: I designed him without one because I figured he had a mind voice strong enough to be heard by basically anyone and to penetrate any mind, so he doesn’t really need a mouth (don’t ask me how does he eat-I guess he just absorbs nutrients from somewhere)

The Pale King, instead, in his most mortal (and truer) form looks sickly, with deeply settled eyebags and dark pin eyes. This is already an older Pale King (about when he was already sheltered inside a dream and the infection started taking over Hallownest) but really shows how much he changed and how much vastly mortal he looks in comparison to his true self

It’s almost like the Wyrm and the Pale King became two different people

Lastly, I’d like to call this one “Being born is not fun”

Since you can find his cast off egg, inside his old shell, I figured one day he was just born again

I think being born was a very unpleasant experience for the pale king, from forming inside such a small egg, to transferring his conscience in a new mind, to coming to light in a new, frail and naked body

I imagined how bad it felt to go from ten limbs to two, having wings but not being able to fly and having a mouth and having to speak aloud because your inside voice is not strong enough anymore

The Pale King was miserable.

What he thought was the greatest idea he had ever got soon revealed itself as a momentary nightmare (and later as a nightmare and that’s it.), but he didn’t give up. He got something to cover himself and got up on those little, unstable feet he grew and went out into Hallownest as a ruler

Like is it strained(enemies and stuff) or does herrah or pale king maybe have a little love for one another?

Thanks for the ask anyways, have some herrah potraits while I ramble

I always interpreted Herrah/ Pale King relationship as purely…professional (at least from her side). Like, she needed an heir, he needed a dreamer.

Herrah didn’t really ever like the Pale King (she was there before him, nonetheless, and saw his arrival and hoped for the best when he declared himself as king of Hallownest, but was soon let down just when the infection started growing) or his decisions regarding all the vessels question and neither the way he hid inside his palace once the infection took over Hallownest, but she knew his plan was the kingdom and the Weaver’s only hope to try and find salvation.

So she opted for putting her people’s safety before her not liking the guy-who-crowned-himself-monarch at all.

Herrah is a leader, a matriarch: she would have done anything in her power to protect those under her and grant them an happy long life, but this doesn’t mean she wouldn’t ask anything in return. A moment of vulnerability was nothing in the face of possible salvation and the heir she desired so ardently.

And the Pale King needed the help of that faraway, rebellious, ancient village the Weaver’s nest is. Bringing an heir to life meant yield part of his “royalty” and “godhood” to a mortal body, but I guess he was in desperate necessity of a support in his plan and, being the damn curious scientist/architect/engineer he is, he wanted to see what a mortal spawn would look like

As for his view of Herrah, he deemed her as savage and rebellious, natural, and yet incredibly wise and capable leader. He never really precluded himself the possibility of a relationship with her, but she never cared about him and so he never thought too seriously about that.

I do think he still asked himself how would it have been if he had started seeing her more frequently

As for the White Lady, I think she was aware of this weird Herrah/Pale King iteration but she deemed it as a political affair so she never shamed Herrah for that, but somehow resented the Pale King, very very deep inside herself

HORNET’S BIT(I didn’t play silksong yet so if smth is weird is bc of that)(no spoilers pls)

After having her, Herrah and the Pale King just parted ways

She grew her child (at least for a while) and he went back to his palace with a new dreamer assured.

Herrah loved Hornet to death, always finding time to spend time with her little self until the very last minute. Hornet was then grew by the Weaver’s and her situation was some “adopted child” stereotype trope kind of thing: in a teenage fit of rage, probably, she found out her father was the Pale King and departed on a journey to understand more abt herself and this dead kingdom she found herself in. Here she meets the knight and follows his adventures from a distance for a while

The Weavers always told her stories about their matriarch, Herrah, and how she loved them and loved her so much she gave her life to grant them a better life, so Hornet grew really attached to her mother’s figure, but found out of her father only after pressuring her carers into telling her (the Weavers probably promised Herrah to not reveal who Hornet’s father was until Hornet herself would have been ready to receive this information)

So yeah basically Hornet’s story starts with lots and lots of love

And Herrah is a lover, not a fighter

GOING BACK TO THE DEAD THREE

(Although these characters are not mine but Wizard of the Coast’s property and I don’t own them, I’ve totally redesigned them)

Redesigns:

Idk how many of you are familiar with the Dead Three thing in Forgotten Realms’ lore, but one time I’ve mastered a Curse of Strahd campaign in which Bhaal made some apparitions and I went down a rabbit hole about these three fuckers

Bane is my favorite (although Bhaal could be a close second cause he’s so stupid he makes me laugh)

In canon, he’s described to take the form of an half orc, from time to time, so I’ve took that as a starting point and developed his looks from there

I thought that he could have been raised in a monk community (monastery?) in which he learnt strict discipline and ruthless combat and than pivoted when his shadow magic somehow awoke, granting him far more destructive power than what monk training could ever give him (i think he’s a lvl 5 monk way of the open hand and a lvl 13 shadow magic sorcerer)

Cold, calculating and merciless, there’s only one person who manages to make him snap hard and is the most annoying idiot of the dead three: Bhaal

Bhaal is def not the brains of the Three (although being smart, Bane and Myrkul are smarter) but he’s definitely the brawns

While Myrkul only fights from a distance and Bane would rather not get close but will if needed, Bhaal is the one jumping head first in combat

He takes all the punches, all the slices, and has a hella good time when he does

Loud, chaotic and annoying, he’s an unpredictable smartass, always with a quick comeback and a quicker knife to slice throats if he’s bored enough

Nonetheless, he’s a Battle Master fighter (probably coming from an army or a mercenary setting), knowing exactly where to hit to hurt as much as possible

He’s the one stealing from people out of boredom and than throwing the stolen bounty in a trash can when he’s done

Actually, boy is the sole person who can manage to make Bane snap out of annoyance (he almost made Myrkul snap too once and that became a very unpleasant evening for everyone)

Evidence of Bane/Bhaal relationship:

I actually designed (and drew) Bhaal god design way before and way more times than his mortal one so have some god Bhaal too (+bonus first Dead Three iteration)

He’s an annoying little fuck (credits to @atlantjchasappeared for Bhaal’s warlock, the one who’s being harassed)

Last and worst, here’s Myrkul

Most powerful of the Three, he’s a Lvl 20 necromancer with a superiority complex, coming from a noble family and having an angel face (up until he smiles)

He’s actually the most evil, sadistic and cruel of the three, so much even Bhaal and Bane don’t wanna piss him off, he just doesn’t look like it

Calm, soft spoken and annoyingly upstage, Myrkul is the incarnation of wolf in sheep’s clothing

He could tear those two idiots who follow him in pieces and they wouldn’t even realize it, but he needs them to become a god so he ought to bear them

MOURNING THE DEATH OF SOMEONE WHO NEVER EXISTED Pt.2

A widow? A deity?

No it’s just Dierdre and his mourning

He’s the god of death in a dnd world where deities cannot by any mean die and he’s the only deity who managed by one misterious mean to die, but party doesn’t know why and, most of all, no mortal remembers him (but all the pantheon remember him clearly, as clearly as light)

The one who remembers him (and his death) most vividly is his former partner Caelo (god of the sky)

I would love to share more but party follows me everywhere and they don’t know anything abt this (one is here on tumblr)
