Twilight The Cullen House Lego Set: Mini-fig Reviews
Bella was a wonderful figure to begin the set with. She is wearing a green shirt styled to match the one used in Twilight during the scene when Bella comes to the Cullen home for the first time. She also came with a cactus that can be held in one of her hands. The long curtain of her brown hair piece covers the first surprise for me in this set. Each mini-fig has two heads; that is two faces to choose from. My only criticism of this mini-fig is that Bella does not have a set of red eyes to switch to, but rather a happy and sad, sort of stressed, face.
Charlie is the next mini-fig. While I love the character, his inclusion in this set seems odd. I imagined the Cullen house Lego set would feature the Cullens. Charlie doesn’t visit the house being built until the last movies/book. The figure features Billy Burke’s iconic mustache, short brown hair, a long sleeved flannel t-shirt, and a very stressed Charlie to swap to. Adding Charlie to Bella and her truck felt like beginning the story of Twilight, so in the end, he’s a welcome addition.
Next up is Carlisle. While this destroyed my theory that I would be building characters in the order they were introduced to readers, the first Cullen was so very exciting. Clothed in his New Moon mortality vote with his precious scarf, Carlisle revealed that each Cullen would be either golden eyed or hungrily black. Of course, he smiles on each side.
They couldn’t have made a Twilight set without Alice. In terms of character prominence in the story and fandom, Alice is the most important Cullen other than Edward to include. She’s in her entrance outfit from the first film, including the first Cullen crest seen on a mini-fig tied around her neck. She is smiling with black eye, and has an almost vacant stare to accompany her golden eyes. Almost as if she’s getting a vision. Chef’s kiss.
To match Alice’s scene, the Rosalie mini-figure is also wearing her entrance outfit along with the Cullen crest. This crest is larger and therefore more detailed than Alice’s,and the nod to Nikki Reed by including her beauty mark is fantastic design. She has her beautiful smile with golden eyes and a fierce grin with thirst. Her bag is part of the 2 floor, which features the Cullen kitchen…including bowls to be held…or smashed. I’m kissing another Chef.
Edward’s mini-figure brings the construction of the Cullen house to a close. A very fitting time to include him, as Bella and my journey with this project came to a close. Yes, he sparkles. It had to be done, but it is not to my taste. The pattern and color of metallic dots chosen to give his face a shine look like fish scales and from across the table, he just looks like someone sat on his face with glitter. Unfortunately, his hungry option is very much the moody immortal teen angst that is Edward, so only shiny smiles for me.
The set did not end with Edward, but rather Jacob. This is the only mini-fig that comes with two hair pieces; one long and one short. His black hair blends in with a tight, chestmuscley black tee. I’m so happy that Jake is all smiles and that he made the cut…but he doesn’t live here. The character didn’t enter this house until the last book and he fucking hated it. The only reason he was there is very much not in the set. He had to be included, just like Alice, but maybe not with the Cullen’s house. The wolf form they included is fan-fucking-tastic! It’s not possible for him to exist in both forms, so put the dog outside and give me more Cullens please. And here we have arrived at the end of our reviews and the elephant NOT in the room. The collection of characters chosen for mini-figures doesn't match the set. When I think of characters to include with Cullen home I would, well, include ALL of the Cullens. Jasper, Emmett, and Esme are sadly not in this set. The strongest disservice this set does is not include Esme in her home...I imagine she'd be the most excited about this set. It was wonderful to act like a child playing with my little characters and I want more. My only hope is that capitalism will go full-board if this set did well and Lego begins to release more minis.
