hamlet’s “i did love you once” and ophelia’s “indeed, my lord, you did make me believe so” is such an underrated gut punch. it’s betrayal it’s heartbreak it’s vulnerability it’s so over. truly no one is doing it like shakespeare
Having your main anxiety response be Avoidance is crazy cause you'll think you're chillin and then one day you're like waitttt I've been paralyzed with fear this whole time. Damn
Ilya: this guy is cute, I should start a stationary bike race so he knows I want to get sweaty together
Ilya: that didn’t quite work. Maybe I should just give him the eye? While I tell him I hope he likes his new city?
Ilya: okay. But surely if I make him drink from my water bottle and brush his fingers when passing it over…?
Ilya: call him pretty. To his face. No way he can miss that
Ilya: desperate measures, I’ll have to tell him I orchestrated this whole ad campaign just so I could see him again
Ilya: WHAT IF I STARTED JERKING OFF IN THESE COMUNAL SHOWERS?

“are they lovers?” worse. they were supposed to be and never got the chance to
oh don't get me started.......
You know... random thought coming at almost 1am on a Saturday because I've seen several posts about Orpheus coming up today through Tumblr for whatever reason but...
... we don't talk enough about the fact that in some of the pre-Virgil writings of the myth (and especially the texts linked to the actual religion of Orphism) Orpheus DOES succeed in bringing Eurydice back to life.
In many works for Orphism, Eurydice isn't even mentioned, but when she is (especially in later Greek works such as Euripides'), Orpheus successfully brings his wife back from the dead thanks to the power of his music.
And it's so important actually... because it really shows the difference between earlier Greek myths and later Roman ones. Virgil sanitizes, in a way, the original myth by imposing a limit to the power of poetry and lyricism, which is that NOTHING can overcome death and such fondamental rules of nature.
But for earlier versions, it's the opposite. Poetry IS there to beat death, to remember names and legends and heroes and, in a way, to overcome death to this extent.
It's funny that we all know about this Virgil version and seeing it as such an important myth about love (no matter if we judge positively or negatively Orpheus for turning around) when the older versions... for many depicted Orpheus succeeding.
