I really can’t understand how people HATE Cutie Pie. I love it even more after every episode. People are way too quick and stubborn with their judgement… Yes, the couples do have issues. But THAT IS THE POINT and the whole topic of the drama! AND they in fact talk about / show consequences for every issue and the critique points haters have for this show. 

them being in a same-sex (arranged) engagement in a country where it’s still not legal constantly stirs the talk about LGBTq rights and equal marriage rights between the characters

the big issue of not communicating properly and lying is a constant topic the characters work on and stumble over which overall leads to positive messages and learning experiences for the audience (showing anti-examples and aha-effects are more fruitful)

they even talked about the age gap now! And I am hoping they will extend that talk later as well or at least show that age gap critique is quiet overrated as long as it’s about consenting adults, it literally doesn’t have to be as dramatic in RL as most people believe…

they have realistic love scenes that show that playful teasing, seduction and consent can coexist

very supportive and honest friend groups who try to help each other and call the other ones bullshit out

Is Cutie Pie a perfect show? No, it isn’t. But what really gets me is that this show has been nitpicked to hell like no other series I’ve ever watched. People will say this show has zero substance, that there’s no plot, that Lian is abusive, that there’s too much miscommunication.

As if the series was trying to portray Kuea and Lian’s relationship in a positive light in the beginning? No. They showed that there was a lot of problems in the beginning of the show and how their relationship couldn’t continue forward at the rate it was.

The show wasn’t advocating for a relationship of lies and deception. They show that Kuea and Lian’s relationship blossoms as soon as they are open and honest with each other. I struggle to see how people can at this point call their relationship toxic and abusive. Their relationship is at this point pretty open in terms of communication, they are physically and emotionally closer than ever before, Lian always asks Kuea for consent before he does anything remotely sexual, and they’re overall just brimming with happiness.

Also tbh I said this in a post the other day but some of the things Lian does in the first couple episodes of Cutie Pie are actions I’ve seen in straight mainstream Kdramas time and time again. And guess what? Kdrama fans don’t dig into the character for how he acted in the beginning, they can see the growth and development of the character. Like I did not expect to like Lian when I first started this show. I personally didn’t start liking him until maybe episode 3? Before that I saw him as the typical cold CEO type, but quickly we saw how much he truly loved and cared for Kuea. The way he took care of Kuea when he was drunk really is what made me start loving him as a character.

Again are all of their actions perfect? No. But characters don’t have to be perfect. And there’s so many shows where the characters have much deeper flaws or will do things like cheat on each other, but that’s all brushed aside. But Lian and Kuea having miscommunication problems and then resolving it in a manner of like two weeks? Apparently this is the more problematic show? I don’t see that logic tbh.
