“Oh you have learned to charm, I see,” his mother replied with a soft chuckle that she hid behind her hand. Not what she had been expecting since his father had never been quite the charmer – at least not talking to her. “I fear there is not much to tell about me between my death and my… resurrection of sorts. But I will gladly tell you anything before my return to the other side. You were quite young and might not remember me that well and I was often absent, of course.” Now after having gained clarity and control over her purpose, not that she had ever lost it unwillingly, Athena knew that she had neglected one of her duties. The duty of motherhood. And she did regret it.
Her head tilted to the side as she grew more serious. Lahabrea had told him parts of the story yet even he did not know all since he had shied away from bonding their souls so quickly. “You were our greatest creation.” Not because of the experiments, but because he existed.
“I’m no charmer... I’m just happy to see you again, mother.” He commented, offering her a warm smile. Charming people had never been Erich’s forte either, he couldn’t talk so freely with other people after all. “I would still love to hear everything I can about you. I don’t have so many clear memories, I just remember your touch and your smile...” Perhaps he could blame the experiments, maybe it was his young age’s fault, but his memories of that time were rather foggy. “I do remember what’s important but... it would be nice to get to know you once more... mom.” That was how people addressed their parents in a more intimate way, wasn’t it?
“Ah... you’re... too kind.” His cheeks got darker as he blushed and glanced away. “I am just-” no, he couldn’t really show his mother how deep insecurity took root inside him, nor how little he thought of himself. “I am just... happy about my family, after all this time.” It was partially a lie, he was still getting used to the idea of appreciating Lahabrea as father, but- he couldn’t finish his original sentence. “Would you like to come to my room? I could serve you some tea and it would give us some privacy to properly catch up.”
