Inde Navarrette as Nikki Freeman OBSESSION (2026) Dir. Curry Barker "What she really brought [to the movie] was a personality trait to the real Nikki that I did not anticipate. I wrote Nikki as this really sweet, girl next door, kind of like the dream girl of any guy. She's so sweet, she's got a heart of armour. Nikki gives money to the homeless person and you can see she's really got empathy. But what Inde brought was this, like, bro-type of sassiness to Nikki that I didn't anticipate but ended up working really well for the movie because it kind of emphasizes that Bear is totally in the friend zone." — Curry Barker for Cinema Blend [Inde] is a surprise talent. She was very reserved in rehearsal [during production]. It was very much a mystery to me what she was capable of. As a first time filmmaker you're kind of nervous about that. You're like, oh my gosh, I hope everything works out. But I remember, I think this was the first day of shooting, and it was the scene where she was kissing Bear on the bed and she flies back. I was, like; "Here we go, okay, action!" And she did it. I looked at my producer [Haley Nicole Johnson], and said; "Okay. We've got a movie." And that's the take [that's in the movie]. We only did one take of that." — Curry Barker for Evolution of Horror [Auditioning actresses for the role of Nikki] was a really rigorous process. A lot of really talented girls came out for this. You'd either find an actress was really good at [acting out natural scenes] and just talking and all that but they couldn't get the really eerie, weird, scary stuff right. Or you'd find that they could really go weird but they weren't very naturalistic. It was [about] balance. We got very lucky in the end [finding Inde]." — Curry Barker for CBR In Studio
