If I were to look for another book to read after Roland Barthes Camera Lucida, it would be based on how people define and use photography. Barthes shared his many ideas about photographs and how it connects to his life. He also talked about studium and punctum. Is photography just the art of producing images?

How can we look without seeing? You look at an image, but you don't look past the surface. You just see what's in front of you and you don't think of where it came from or its importance.

The studium and punctum are interesting factors in a photograph. There are many different ways of interpreting one picture. When I look at a photo, I pay attention to the overall picture, then I notice the small details.

Thoughts on Camera Lucida pg 63-73

"Is History not simply that time when we were not born?" (pg 64)

"...by moving back through Time." (pg 71)

History is an incredible thing to think about. In the beginning of the reading, the author sees his mother's familiar dress, but in a different way. I thought this was interesting because the dress that his mother wore was in 1913, before the author was born. Looking through old photographs feels like moving back through Time because each moment that was captured, you can visualize it from memory.
