Ni maldad sin bendición. / Sin luz no existe sombra.
Stars.
“Clear sky?” Murdock asks quietly, pulling Frank’s attention and making him glance his way.
A talkative Devil — now that’s a rare sight. Especially after a night like this one. A night full of blood and busted knuckles. Usually, the most you’ll get out of him is a sermon. Those sermons throb, sting, grind you down until all you want is to shut Red up, either with a fist or a kiss.
Frank doesn’t answer right away. He touches the stitch on his shoulder before he finally looks up at the sky.
“Clear,” he mutters, not sure what Red’s getting at. “Hey,” his voice tightens when the Devil pulls the mask off. “Someone might see you.”
“No.” Matt — now just Matt — shakes his messy head, and it makes Frank freeze for a beat. You don’t see that often. Especially Matt taking the mask off himself — just like that, up on some rooftop. "Nobody’s watching."
Frank glances around, suspicious, before finally nodding. Matt might put himself on the line — Frank’s sure of that — but he’d never risk Karen or Foggy. His family. Frank doesn’t count himself part of that circle, but he should. He has no idea how much room he takes up in Murdock’s life.
A few more stitches. Meanwhile Matt strips off the suit, wastes water wiping sweat and blood from his face, then changes, stuffing his second skin into a bag like it’s nothing. Now he’s in a hoodie, sweatpants, sunglasses instead of his usual red-tinted glasses.
“Matt…” Frank can’t bring himself to call him Red like this — not when his hair’s flattened from the mask, not when there’s no armor on his body, just the thin cling of sportswear.
“You done?”
Frank nods, tugging the thread tight and biting it off.
“Done,” he confirms, his eyes never leaving Murdock.
“Let’s go.”
“Where?”
“To watch the stars.”
Frank snorts. No way this is real. He doesn’t believe it even as he turns the key in the ignition. Doesn’t believe it when Matt gives him directions. Doesn’t believe it until they’re both lying in the grass — still soft, though already beginning to yellow.
“What the hell are we doing here, Murdock?”
“Looking at the stars.”
“And what do you see?”
“You tell me.”
Frank shifts his gaze from Matt to the sky. A serious ask. He hasn’t done anything like this in years. He can’t even remember the last time anything felt this close to romantic. Not even when he fucked Murdock. Not even when Murdock fucked him. Back then there were no words, just ragged breaths. Nothing but lips, tremors, shivers. Shit. It wasn’t ‘nothing,’ but Frank calls it that. Compared to this, describing stars is harder.
He lets the silence stretch. A long silence. Until finally he breathes out, low and rough:
“It’s like holes in my vest, Red. A thousand holes.”

Matt & Frank Castle
I think what is absolutely crazy and why I am a Fratt shipper is that Frank is one if not the ONLY person who can handle Matt in the way he needs to be handled.
Disclaimer: this is based off of their relationship in the Tv show NOT anything in the comics!
But anyway! I just feel like Matt is that special type of character where you WANT to be soft with him, swaddle him up and beat the shit out of anyone who makes him feel like shit BUT in the same vein you want to shake him and beat him over the head until he makes good choices!
Foggy is way too soft, even at his maddest and Karen is way too harsh and is very similar to Matt in that she will avoid and walk away if something becomes too much.
But Frank is the perfect mix between hard and soft. He knows when to push Matt but he is also quick to be open and soft and this interaction that we got on Episode 4 really highlights that.
He pushed and pushed Matt until he got the reaction he wanted but when he noticed Matt breaking his tone got so soft. He voluntarily shared a little bit of his grief because he UNDERSTANDS. And when he knows that Matt is being honest about something he shuts the fuck up. The way he let Matt talk about how good Foggy was and then just let him leave???
Karen wouldn’t have done that. I don’t even think Foggy would have let him or Foggy would have left first. Neither would Electra because all of them would HAVE to get the last word in. But Frank let him say what he really felt and left and I find that so important for a character like Matt.
And you know it is out of character because earlier in the conversation Frank kept on getting the last word. “What about old Foggy? Did he get life?” That was so foul! 😭 But I also think that Frank is a mirror to Matt. Frank knows EXACTLY what Matt is feeling and similarly, they both have NO ONE they can talk to to process that grief. Except where there is Frank who explodes and goes on a killing spree, Matt is suppressing SEVERELY because he is trying to honor Foggy and what he would have wanted.
It really makes me wonder if Frank did something similar. Did he try to suppress it and “do the right thing?” The kind of thing that Maria and his kids would have wanted him to do? And it also reminds me of Magneto from X-Men Apocalypse where Charles told him “would your family have wanted this?” And Magneto rebuttals with “They would have wanted to live!”
I just love Matt and Franks dynamics because I feel like Frank can actually relate to Matt in a way that no one else can. Not even Elecktra (sorry for the shippers). And I think because he relates to Matt so much, he can see where this is headed and in his own way doesn’t want Matt to fall off the deep end like he did.
Long story short the Fratt shippers ate good today!
sometimes I wonder why y'all are obsessed with specific characters and I'm like "why them" but then I remember that sometimes its literally not your choice you just look at them wrong and all of a sudden they're taking up your every thought forever
welcome back frank castle, king of manspreading
Even I have no idea what's going on here. But I like it. Them.

being in a small fandom is like being given a bone, chewing on it until you're done with it, burying it in your backyard, and then digging that same chewed up bone months later to continue chewing on it, and then the cycle just repeats.
this is especially true for small fandoms that you know won't be getting any new content, so you just have to consume the content you've already consumed thousands of times before.
