I actually found TM speaking to be much more moving when she communicated with the team through the only various subtle ways it could, such as morse code, or the NATO phoentic alphabet, or simply words on screen. I think the writers got tunnel vision with making their AI have a literal voice and it “melding” with Root’s identity, that they forgot what made their show so powerful and different. Every AI plot to ever exist has had an AI avatar. So the fact that the Machine’s dialogue and presence on the show was much more elusive and something to be felt rather than heard or seen, was really compelling and inventive. And since we so rarely “heard” TM, it always packed a much more powerful punch.

Maybe think real hard about why the “logical” end of every lgbt woman’s character arc mysteriously happens to be death. Maybe think about why you don’t write lgbt women and black women with the intent that they will live.

“Well, lots of characters die on this show, we’re not singling them out.”

Yes, except for the members of your invincible core cast who are, mysteriously, straight and cis and white and who are, mysteriously, always exempt even when you’re trying to show us that “anyone can die.”

If you had done anything else so tropey and predictable that like nineteen other shows did the same thing in the same season, would you really be saying it was great writing?

season 2 lexa was enthralling because she threatened & did such terrible things, she dealt in torture and murder and compromise for the sake of survival and peace. she was so very dangerous and human

as much as i love soft gay disaster lexa…season three lexa wasn’t lexa? at least, the majority of her wasnt. 

“this is a coup” was lexa, as was her conversation with clarke at the start of episode three. “if it were me i’d kill you on the spot” was lexa. we see that sly clever mind. we see her being sharp and quick. we see her angry. we see the threat she poses and the power she holds. and we see her holding it naturally and organically in the same way she had in season two. 

i mean. “prove it” was a great lexa moment. “attack her and you attack me”, putting a kill order on octavia…like. i have no doubt that alycia did all she could with the scripts she was given but season three lexa felt like a second-rate lexa in comparison to what we’d seen in the previous season. 

and, yeah, she’s back on home turf and everything, but she’s still at war and dealing with a coup/the aftermath, she’s being doubted by her closest adviser, and the sky people are spitting in her face with every move they make. and yet, in order to make clarke quick emotional turn-around more believable, they turn her into a gooey heart-eyed wreck.

also, she seems to be at least somewhat mentally/emotionally splintering? which would have been amazing if they’d actually carried through with that. because she’d gone through a lot in the past few months and shit just kept hitting the fan? so seeing her become a little more unhinged and unraveled would have been aaaamazing

Can you believe, that they showed Lexa fight not once but twice and the second time she takes out 12 people like it’s nothing? And they have the nerve to kill the commander of the 12 clans, the commander of blood, the girl who fell in love with a girl who fell from the sky, with a stray bullet? And then bash her fighting skills by introducing a character who ran away from the conclave and we only have her account that says “I could have killed Lexa” blah blah? Can you believe they have the nerve?

I am in awe of the sheer wonder on Root’s face when she finally hears TM talking to her again and how she rushes forward to make physical contact with some part of it. She’s been so without it for so long that she’s grateful even for the excruciating pain TM is causing her at the moment.

Also, god bless Amy Acker for how beautifully she played this scene. Look at the last gif – you can see a perfect blend of agony and joy on her face, and how she tears up due to both.

#do you ever think about how out of the two loves of root’s life #one of them can’t technically feel anything because it’s a machine #and the other has the volume on their feelings turned down and doesn’t show affection/love in any traditional way #but root loves them so fiercely and unconditionally and doesn’t necessarily need reciprocation #like she’ll look at them like they’re God/her sun and stars and their existence is enough because their existence is astounding to her #and maybe someday is enough and a throwaway promise is all she needs #like she asks for essentially the bare minimum #or even when she told Harold that it’s ok if they’re not friends anymore bc him being alive is enough #root #the misanthrope #has all the love to give and doesn’t ask for it in return like what kind of heartbreaking bullshit - @ddatrw

Clarke’s devotion to the Arkers barely makes sense anymore. I know she has her father’s instinct to protect her people, but after everything she did for them already, they’ve done nothing but screw it up and punish her for it. I see no bond between her and “her people” anymore. It’s so forced. The only people it makes sense to still care about are Monty, Raven, Octavia, Kane, and Abby. The writing is so shitty because despite her character development, they still have her exist to serve people that don’t deserve her.
