I may start blogging again on occasion. I'm not sure why I stopped. I guess it was around the time I moved in with some roommates, so I had more social interaction than I'm used to at home. It's kind of fun to get my thoughts out of my head, even if no one reads my posts.

I'm planning a five hour bus trip, plus a three hour trip down to Chicago to catch this bus, to see an awesome band I saw in Nashville. They're playing slightly closer to me. I'm buying a nonrefundable ticket, so I'm hoping the band doesn't run into any travel problems and the bus works out alright. I ride a local coach bus occasionally, and they're very reliable 99% of the time. This other company has some cancelations posted. There are none for their Chicago route, so I'm hoping that's more prioritized. They run three routes a day, and I doubt they'd cancel all of them in a worst case scenario.

The venue is close to a campus, so most of the hotels are expensive or booked. There's a cheap one a few blocks away from the venue, run by the university. I almost booked it, but had second thoughts since I know most university buildings close at some point. I saw a review that said "good luck getting in after 10pm". I may call to verify before I go, but I found a more mainstream hotel a little farther out that's still within walking distance. There's a Super 8 I could Uber to as well, however the Uber prices would reduce the savings. I don't know how active the Ubers are either, and I'd hate to stress over it when I need to catch my return bus.

I was debating on if this is worth the time/money, and I think it will be. I'm seeing an excellent band, and going on a new adventure. Plus I'm doing great with my budget goals, so it motivates me to add a few more dates to my work schedule to cover fun events like this.

I keep feeling bad about going in late on my 8 PM days. My original plan of going in at 9:30 AM is too long. With my bus ride, I’m gone for about 12 hours on these days. It’s not fun, so I’m aiming to go in at 10:30. I’d love to do 11 AM, but 10:30 is better if the buses are delayed.

I have been coming in on Fridays recently, so I guess I can feel less bad. There’s not much planned on Fridays, so it’s a super easy day. I’m also spending more time being around the kids, which is one of the main things I’m trying to get experience with. I can’t do too much planning in the office, anyways. I need to work on a presentation this weekend, and I need to look up some more resources from the university.

I’m also at roughly 23 hours a week in the summer to finish out my term . I’m guessing I’ll be doing more than that, so it’s honestly fine if I’m a few hours short every week. It’ll be so much easier to get going in the summer. I’ve been struggling so much in the winter. I want to go running for something to do in the morning, but it’s too icy and cold outside, so I sleep for another “15 minutes”, which turns into a couple hours.

It’s so hard to wake up recently. I pushed back my first alarm by 30 minutes since I’m not usually in bed right at 11, and that didn’t help much. I don’t have any motivation...

I might attempt to run or workout. One of my roommates is actually working out at 7 every Monday... Membership for the fitness centers on campus isn’t too horrible...

I should also probably wash my face when I wake up. It feels good and sort of gets me going on other things.

I also need to keep in mind that every hour I work during the school year is less time I need to work in the summer. Right now I’m around 26 hours a week, but that doesn’t include training and holidays.

I love my community center’s director. He has the same attitude as some of my favorite teachers and other mentors. During the staff meeting yesterday, he brought up mindfulness while eating. After getting drunk Qdoba last night, I realized that I should probably not get drunk Qdoba again in the future. There’s one down the street, but I decided to go to the other one so I could walk in the snow. I show up about 20 minutes before closing time, and they weren’t even making quesadillas. I got a bowl, and they were closing up early, so I couldn’t sit around and drink water. I then lost my motivation to walk home, so I had to get a Lyft. My Qdoba excursion ends up being about $20 at this point, and I didn’t even get what I wanted. I didn’t necessarily enjoy it as much as I should have.

I guess I’m pretty good about not getting drunk food considering how easy it is here. I think I mostly want warm food right now because it’s winter and my room is freezing. I’m going to keep some of my favorite frozen meals in the freezer that I can make instead if I’m thinking about food. That’ll at least save me some money, even if I’m not being mindful.

Imma start charging people for hurting my feelings $3 a minute

I saw a post that said “I wasn’t myself for months and nobody noticed” I felt that.

I think I’m going to change my bedtime from 11 to 11:30 PM, so I’ll also wake up at 7:30 AM instead of 7. I generally don’t go to sleep right at 11 anyways, so it might feel better to get an extra half hour of sleep regardless.

I’m also shifting my schedule to go into the office a half hour later, since it’s easier to stay focused when I don’t have as much time to fill in the morning. I’ve been wanting to go to the library to do more planning anyways, since I have access to databases and books there, but I’m never motivated because I have enough hours for the week. Now, I’m forced to do something on Fridays. I thought I enjoyed getting done after my training sessions, but it honestly feels just as good to start my weekend a little later as it does starting it at noon.

Ideally, if I can wake up without hitting snooze, I’ll have two hours to myself Mondays through Thursdays. I’m moving my phone away from my bed tonight, so hopefully that will help. I’m not sure if it will do much tomorrow morning, since I’m currently composing this post after my intended bedtime, but it’s good to get ideas out of my head, or I’ll never fall asleep.

Anyways, my general goal is to have more relaxing mornings, as I’ve been skipping out on breakfast and rushing out the door recently. It’s not fun.

It’s so hard to get out of bed in the morning, even with a reasonable amount of sleep. I could have two more hours in the morning, but I have no motivation to get out of bed. I guess I should move my phone across the room.

Today I’m 30 minutes “late”, although it doesn’t really matter because it just cuts into my free time over the summer.

I want to try running when it gets warmer out, but it’s too cold for that right now.

I love adulting. I’ve now used up all of my dental insurance, so yesterday I really only had enough to get one filling done. The dentist wanted to work on three fillings, but the receptionist gave me the option to have two worked on. I went with that, since the bill was about the same as what I was expecting to pay for three. I didn’t realize we were so far along with the dental treatment.

There was some miscommunication between the receptionist, dental assistant, and dentist, and they worked on three fillings! It doubled my dental bill for the day. I didn’t really know what I was supposed to do. They gave me the option to pay it off later, but they didn’t really specify a date, so I said I could do it next month. Thankfully my grandma is usually pretty good with Christmas money, but it’s annoying that so much money went to waste yesterday. I’m out $80 from the second filling and $140 from the third (I actually owe $190, but it would cost me $50 anyways). It technically was not the treatment I gave them permission to do, so I probably should’ve been more upset, but my mouth was super numb and I wanted to go home. As long as they weren’t making me pay it right away, I suppose it’s fine.

Two positives: my dental insurance does not restart in January, which would have been super annoying. I need to wait until September, assuming I do another term of AmeriCorps. They also replaced a metal filling with resin composite yesterday! It’s probably not very noticeable to others, but I notice it every time I brush my teeth, and it’s a slight boost of confidence. I actually think that’s why I had so many fillings to do. Some of them might be replacing metal fillings, since they’re probably 10-15 years old by now.
