Scientists at the San Diego Zoo have made a tremendous leap forward. After working for over three years with a 270-pound gorilla named Sampson, researchers say he is now able to fully express over 1,500 signs of modified sign language and has even come out as a homosexual to his father!

Bumblebees can carry a lot of pollen. To find out how much, scientists at Harvard attached “artificial weights, in the form of really, really small steel ball bearings” to bees and studied their maneuverability under simulated windy conditions.

Turns out they can carry almost half their weight in pollen and nearly double their body weight in nectar.

“Bumblebees are basically aerial tankers.” explains biologist Andrew Mountcastle. Learn more about the study, it’s results and their implications here.
