One perfect Choo came to rest against the contraption, the stiletto heel poised precariously against the floor. One wrong move, and the intel officer was looking at the mother of all broken ankles, if not worse. All the poise in the world could not make up for the awkwardness of the angle, but Julia held her position fearlessly. Staring down the dimly lit hall, she smirked at the sound of other shoes upon the linoleum, moving in a manner practically rehearsed.
The skateboard – and such a pity Price’s daughter had left it after her last visit, someone really ought to mail it back to London post haste – sailed swiftly over the clean floors, hardly inhibited by the box balanced upon its frame. The whole affair came to a stop once the board and its cargo slammed into the lieutenant’s side. No matter the force, Julia would never be able to set something forward with enough force to topple a soldier, but that hardly mattered.
Her porcelain teeth flashed all too bright in the hallway, her heels clicking rhythmically as she approached Gaz. “You won’t believe what a bargain I found Asda. They were practically giving them away when I went in.” She could see the headline now: Came For The Memory Stick, Left With A Way To Make New Enemies.
“Go on, then. Open it up.” Grinning still at the box for the machine, she chuckled to herself. “I’ll bet you sing a mean Sid, Gaz.”
The soreness of yet another scrape-up drummed against his side. An old, aggravated injury ended him up in the infirmary. Sure he was free finally, but he felt like he couldn’t muster Mr. Sunshine that day. When the skateboard came colliding with his shin, Gaz wouldn’t excuse the confused look on his face. He looked up at Julia, with a hint of tired amusement returning to his eyes.
“Well, I don’t hear ticking, so I’m going to hope that I’m safe in opening this,” Gaz teased, slowly seating himself on the ground like a child waiting to open Christmas presents.
Peering into the box, a huge, boyish grin split his face. His brown eyes lit up with excitement. Yet another way to piss the Old Man off.
“Oh, God, Jules,” Gaz’s gleeful voice rang. “You shouldn’t have. And it works?”
