It can be difficult to understand just how routine-oriented cats can be if you’ve never owned one. If my oven timer goes off and I’m slow responding to it, my cats will run and fetch me and lead me right to it, because the beepy thing means the human is supposed to go into the kitchen, and are they the only ones around here who give a damn about the Rules?

One night my partner decided to stay up and play video games whilst I got an early night, and the cat responded to this by running from the bedroom to the living room yelling, because only ONE human had gone to bed and so IS IT BEDTIME OR NOT HUMANS, MAKE UP YOUR MINDS, THIS IS NO WAY TO RUN A HOUSEHOLD.

Can confirm. My cats not only know exactly when I’m supposed to get up for work in the morning, but they also know when I’m supposed to STOP working. The fact that these times correlate to snackies and supper is not a coincidence.

And one of them is Quite Proficient at people-herding. After a certain time of day, all the humans must be in the sleeping chamber and if one of us is not, he becomes Perturbed.

It is distressingly clear while reading a lot of fantasy that people don’t look into what’s actually involved in running a monarchy. Even books I like sometimes go ‘…letters?’ and while letters serve an important diplomatic function if you want me to believe someone is a good monarch and we’re in their PoV or that of someone close to them you’d better show said monarchs working with their secretaries and advisors to write the diplomatic letters. On horseback. While travelling between different nobles and dignitaries’ residences. Sometimes while getting updates on a border squabble where nobody actually wants to start a war so everyone is trying to figure out how to brush the whole thing off without losing face or having their citizens demand revenge.

Unless there’s a super centralized and acknowledged place Where Governing Gets Done (not historically the case in feudal governments, but go ahead and do it for ease) in which case all of this is happening at garden parties that the reigning monarch has to duck out of sometimes for minutes at a time.

THIS I highly recommend that fellow authors read non-fiction books about how society worked during a given era because A WHOLE LOT went into governning countries, and GOOD monarchs were often busy af. Everyone went to them to complain, and to effectively run a country meant travelling across the land, Court in tow, listen to grievances, and trying to solve them in a way that wouldn’t lead to your gentry calling for your blood. Still, I find that a lot of royalty books, especially in YA, gloss over the whole governing part and the responsibilities it entails. It’s not just a case of “YOU, MY UNDERLING! DO THIS WHILE I SIP MY TEA!” Ruling, and preparing to be a (good) ruler is a very involved process, and it is constant, tiring, and headache-inducing.

Yeah, unless the point is that your nobility is corrupt and lazy, they should be damn busy if we’re to believe that they’re good rulers, or at least competent ambitious villains.

The long post w the good explanation is being shared but not inspiring much help. So, I simplified it.

My illness is straight up fatal. Not gonna beat around thatBush, anymore. I seem desperate for help because I AM desperate for help.

My nephrologist has seen enough improvement in my kidney function, lately, to believe someone my age (early 30s) might have a longer life WITH PROPER AND FREQUENT MEDICAL ATTENTION. Sadly, that just isn’t an option where I live.

Please, if you can help me with moving expenses (even just a couple of bucks) I would be grateful. I’m sinking fast in Mississippi and now my doctors are giving me too much hope to ignore. I wanna get out of this situation and I’m working my fatigued, brain-foggy ass off to make it out of here.

If I can undo the damage my heart failure caused to the rest of my body, I want to. I don’t want to spend another month KNOWING what I should be eating, what medicines I should be taking, what tests and treatments I should be getting… and receiving almost none of it because Mississippi lawmakers think people like me have somehow earned slow, painful deaths.

Summary: How did Reim get his glasses? || Two of the Rainsworth boys are having trouble seeing properly. One needs a physical fix, and the other may need something a bit deeper.

Notes: This was written for @phmonth2021, Rainsworth Trio Day 4 prompt: Glasses.

This was a bit short/fast, so I think I might flesh it out a bit later? But I really liked this idea and definitely thought it was worth posting what I had!! I hope you guys like it too!!

Rufus Barma hadn’t been entirely convinced that taking on such a young servant would be productive. He was more than half sure he would get regularly distracted, and not do his job properly overall.

He was surprised to find that despite his young age, Reim had little to no interest in silly games. The boy was astute, he was respectful, and in fact his diligence was unmatched even in his adult servants. He always did all the work asked of him, no matter how much or how trivial. He was a model servant, and more than qualified.

The only problem…was that he couldn’t see.
