When I see cages crammed with chickens from battery farms thrown on trucks like bundles of trash, I see, with the eyes of my soul, the Umschlagplatz [the spot in the Warsaw Ghetto where Jews were forced onto trains leaving for the death camps]. When I go to a restaurant and see people devouring meat, I feel sick. I see a holocaust on their plates.

i ran past this lovely little life countless times on my run. it is amazing what you will miss if you don't slow down.

balsamic garlic seared tempeh, red and yellow bell peppers, cremini mushrooms, and avocado cubes served over wild rice.

pastry filled with a cashew and sunflower seed "cheese", wild rice, adzuki beans, turnip greens, mushrooms, yellow bell peppers, shallots, and carrots. drizzled with a balsamic reduction and garnished with pea shoots.

this is the cutest thing ever. my baby niece is turning 2 tomorrow, so i got her this adorable plush vegetable basket from ikea. complete with a leek, carrots, cucumber, tomatoes, garlic, bib lettuce, and mushrooms. i kind of want to keep it, but i need to support my little vegan in training.

the moonlight philodendron. this is my newest beauty, added to my collection today. i believe our union was fated. the moonlight philodendron is quite possibly my favorite plant. i used to have 2 or 3, but i had to relinquish them during a move from north carolina to new orleans. i haven't seen one since. that is, until today. this beauty was one of the first things i saw upon entering the green house at logan's trading company in raleigh. i couldn't believe my eyes. it would be hard to explain my hard on for plants, especially this one. the new leaves boast an intense, vibrant lime green color, while the older leaves humbly host a deep, dark green. it is gorgeous, and to add icing to this botanical cake, this beauty is flowering, something i have never witnessed. with a little financial assistance from my best friend, i was able to take this magical life home. it was truly a lovely day, made much more lovely due to a reunion with this beautiful, old friend.
