Iām watching all the puppies at my parentās house this weekend. Theyāve been mostly calm so far, and Rivka even listened when I told her to stop barking at the puppy on TV. Silly little gremlin.
This is just a precursor to when Rivka and Jax come to stay at my house for an entire week while my parents are on a cruise (Godiva will be with my sibling because at 15 years old, the cranky OG needs a more familiar environment).

My coworker went on maternity leave last month so we took over some of her customers while she was out and I got to solve this problem for her except Iām still having to deal with it now even now when sheās back.
Customer signs a short-term contract and waits for a āview-onlyā contract (services are inactive but they can view their data).
I work to get the āview-onlyā contract created and even have to correct the pricing because I wasnāt privy to the initial conversation.
Customer signs the āview-onlyā contract with the correct pricing.
Customer gets the invoice for the short-term contract and panics because itās not the right amount.
I confirm it is the amount Customer agreed to when they signed the contract where it is CLEARLY STATED as the total cost for the services.
Customer is still big mad and trying to fight the signed and fully executed contract.
I stand my ground, reminding Customer they have now signed TWO contracts with the agreed upon costs associated with each.
Coworker, who doesnāt work in my department, steps in for the customer to defend Customerā¦ which would mean our company would make less revenue. They also act as if Customer only signed the one contract. They signed both, and if Coworker bothered to look at the account it would be easy to find.
I defend our stance, beautifully and eloquently, if I do say so myself. I copy Boss, because I know whatās coming nextā¦
Coworker wants to get on a call to talk about how to āclear this upā so that our company makes less money.
The dumbest part of all of this is that I work strictly in full terminations. This customer is canceling their account and leaving for a competitor. Make it make sense!!!!!!

Sometimes the age & experience gap with my Baby Millenial teammates is absurdly obvious.
Scenario: my teammate has a customer that needs a contract and there's a hold up in another department. The request was submitted June 2nd, and the customer was told a follow up would happen when the contract became available. The customer then followed up on June 6th, 13th and 14th. Now another person from our company is involved because my teammate didn't respond to the customer and they're upset.
My teammate said "If someone tells me they'll send something when they have it, I would wait but I guess that's just me."
I disagree because you never know the other person's work ethic and they could easily forget about you so there's nothing wrong with a quick "hey, any update?" Knowing my teammate has a good work ethic, I left that part out. Instead, I pointed out that while the original follow up is a little quick for our turn around time, the additional follow ups require a quick and simple "hey, it's not ready but I'll get back to you when it is."
It's like waiting on hold... no one wants to wait endlessly without an update. It just makes for a bad customer service experience. I'd be mad if I was a customer and was being flat out ignored.
"I suppose" was teammate's response, which annoyed me. Especially because our manager has said we should not be ignoring customer emails. Their lack of experience in customer service - especially in a high dollar industry - is showing.
When Iām upset or hurt the only person I want to talk to is my momā¦ except this time sheās the one who hurt me.
It wasnāt intentional or malicious. But Iām balling my eyes out and now I have to try and get some sleep.
I journaled a whole thing on my other blog but this was the important piece of it:
Itās incredibly unfair that the one person doing the most to prevent hurting others is the one being hurt the most.
My life has gotten harder in a lot of ways since going NC with my siblingsā¦ and itās also gotten a lot better in some ways. Iām trying to focus on that last part.
The older I get, the more I realize that the 20 year old version of me that was desperate to get married and have kids, was actually just desperate to have the life society told me I was supposed to want. I wanted to fit a narrative and I didnāt actually understand the repercussions.
Life is hard enough without being responsible for younger humans too. Iām absolutely grateful things worked out the way they did.
Being raised to be independent is not always a good thing.
Iām afraid of heights and tried a few weeks ago to do some work outside on my 6 ft ladderā¦ I couldnāt, so I asked my dad to come over to help and we set a date for my parents to come over.
Yesterday, I decided to try again to get on my ladder to put up some socket fans I got to try and circulate more air to cool down my house. Theyāre going in my dining room with the extra high ceilings. My logic: I canāt ask my dad for help every time I need to get on the stupid ladder, and I was fine when I used the ladder in my garage (the ceiling in the dining room is higher).
I had a panic attack. I felt stupid for needing to call my dad for every little thing, and instead I made myself physically unsafe by panicking on a ladder.
Asking for help is not stupid.
Update: my little OG is snuggling me. Send food. I live here now.
The chaos has settled in for snuggles.
My parents drove to meet my cousins for dinner and dropped Godiva and the menaces off for the afternoon. It hasnāt been too bad except for the two times Jax missed the pee padā¦ little boys are gross. Heās lucky heās sweet.
Theyāre all sweet. But Rivka is also a fucking menace.

So much for no big purchasesā¦ who knew garden hoses were so expensive??
But I need itā¦ because the three (itās a big yardā¦) that the last tenant left behind are trash and Piper might have giardia so I have to hose down her š© spots.

Brain: [sees lower but absolutely sufficient cash balance in spending account and ignores larger savings account]: Oh no, we're broke!! ANXIETYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! Me: [budgets carefully for groceries, etc and still has enough to take Piper to the vet tomorrow]: No problem... I just won't make any big purchases until later this year/early 2027. The money is there... in the savings account. There will be more money there in a few weeks because I'm very necessary at work and approved for overtime and plan to take advantage. And yet...

I hate my brain... but also fuck this government and the excelerated rising cost of living they've caused.
I tried to put up cameras in my backyard today (partly for security and partly for the view of the wildlife/trains), but the ground in front of my lanai that I have to put my ladder on is uneven and I donāt like heights to begin with. Those can wait until my dad can help.
Instead, I finally put up the blackout curtains in my bedroom.

Boss: Director and other manager just gave you high praise in our manager meeting.
Me: Niceā¦ will that get me a permanent position?
Boss: Definitely helps.
I was half joking and half seriousā¦ but my boss gets it. Iāve been on contract for 13 months now, and will likely be on contract for another 3 (until the end of our fiscal year). Weāre all incredibly frustrated because while we our small team is valued and praised, we have nothing to show for it. Our manager agrees that itās bullshit and fights for us all the time, but weāre in a season of a tight budget and that makes it hard for him to do much.
This is why the job market is so fucking awful right now. Because jobs like this make it impossible to stay put. I like my job. Itās challenging at times, but Iām good at it, and my teammates and most of our coworkers are great.
But I need better insurance than my hiring agency offers. I need PTO. I need real recognition that I donāt get because Iām ājustā a contractor, which means i wonāt get annual raises. And I abso-fucking-lutely deserve more.
It was a nice ego boost to hear this today. I just wish I had more to show for it.
