After spending a bunch of time with the Boss GT-1000core, I’ve decided to go with something else. It does sound good particularly X Crunch amp sounds great for cleans up to mid gain. It almost does high gain well but I couldn’t quite get it there without a lot of buzzing. X Modded almost sounds great but the treble is very harsh. X Hi again sounds good but there was a honk in it that I couldn’t eq out. Some of the others for high gain I just wasn’t giving with. Maximum sounded pretty good, but not what I going for. Also the fizz on all the hi gain amps… too much. I tried all the tricks of low passing or notching certain frequencies but in the end I had to tweak way too much and basically got frustrated and gave up on it. I put in many many hours with it too. I got it close to what I wanted but not quite there. Others that aren’t going more something as specific may be happen with it. I will say the feel of playing it was quite good. It felt like a real amp, and the cleans and mid gain did sound good.
So afterwards I bought the ToneX pedal and wow… I am blown away! It sounded incredible immediately. I’m going to explore it more but yeah I think this is going to work for my new gigging and recording setup.
Also going on record to say my Mesa TriAxis with the 2:90 is the best sounding amp ever made. I’m trying to retire it from gigging though. It’s too heavy, not in production anymore and expensive if it needs repairs. Hence my tone search for a lighter more gig friendly option. I think the ToneX might be the ticket. Maybe I’ll try to tone capture my Mesa….
