some people are saying bi women can say dyke bc they sometimes get called dyke by cishets and its biphobic to say they cant. its all super cold takes brimming with lesbophobia. effeminate cishet men have been called f*g, non-feminine cishet girls have been called dyke, cis men who wear """womens""" clothing have been called tr*nny. are all those people allowed to use those slurs now? like hewwo???? what reality is this?????
ough
@thotsune its actually really fucking revolting that you think comparing a bi womenâs actual directed homophobic trauma to that of a straight persons, and a straight mans no less!!! is okay
bisexual people are lgbt because they are bi, because they are attracted to multiple genders. we are lgbt no matter who we are dating, our representation is lgbt representation no matter who we are dating. stop acting like bi people in wlw/mlm relationships are the only true bi/lgt rep.
for this bi visibility day, iâd really like for us to have a conversation about the dangers bisexual people face, specifically young bi girls.
61% of bi women face rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner; meaning that well over half of bi women are experiencing abuse in their relationships. X X X
46% of bi women have been raped, compared to 17% of heterosexual women and 13% of lesbians. bisexual women are the victims of rape at almost 3x the average rate for other women. X X X
74.9% of bisexual women have reported sexual assault other than rape in their lifetime. X X X
nearly half (48%) of the bi women who have been raped, experience their *first* rape between the ages of 11 and 17. X X
bisexual youths have a 17-18% failure to graduate high school rate, compared to 4-9% for other gay youth. X
bi youth are at higher risks of substance abuse, and bisexuals are 4 times more likely to attempt suicide compared to heterosexual counterparts (gays and lesbians are 2x more likely.) X X
almsot 40% of bisexual adults have attempted suicide, compared to 25% of gays and lesbians. X X
only 5% of bi youth report feeling âvery happyâ with their lives. X X
only 44% of bi youth say they have an adult they can turn to. X X
we need to do more to reach out to young bisexuals, specifically bi girls, trans bi youth, and bi children of color.
we need more organizations in middle schools and high schools that reach out specifically towards bisexual youths, that deal specifically with the biphobic violence and discrimination they face. we need to create spaces where bisexual children feel comfortable coming forward and speaking about their trauma, so they can begin to cope and heal in an accepting environment.
the issues bisexual people face in their youth will follow them into adulthood. their trauma results in higher rates of mood disorders, higher rates of poverty and substance abuse, higher suicide rates, and higher rates of homelessness.
14% of Americans do not believe that bisexuality is a legitimate sexual orientation, and yet bi women are facing an epidemic of abuse with so few actually reporting on it.
we, as a community, need to be conscious of the issues facing some of our most vulnerable members and we need to work towards bringing more public knowledge and awareness to them.
for bi visibility day, i have made a bi-lignment chart
Happy Bi Visibility Day (Sep 23)
⊠again. If you are not a lesbian you cannot be femme or butch.
@the people in the comments like............... you do realize there ARE terms for bi women right? like we have our own gender terms specific to us and special because it encaptures experiences only bi women can have
I donât have photoshop on this computer
hi, i was just wondering how people who identify as he/him can be lesbians? also, do you know any he/him lesbian blogs so i can ask them too?
theres tons of lesbians that use he/him pronouns, even historically! pronouns are just a way to express gender so if you feel masculine and want to reflect that with he/him pronouns thats totally valid, iâm the same way. unfortunately i canât think of many off the top of my head i know @fawndyke is a he/him lesbian!!!
Yâall bi women are a GIFT
Butch lesbians have the biggest hearts in the entire world and if you have been blessed to see the love a butch has in their heart you are truly lucky
man the biphobia in this community is revolting. if your argument against bi women reclaiming a word that has been used to hurt and oppress us on the axis of loving women and especially for stags, also being unpalatable to men, is because cishet women also get called dyke then guess what? youâre being biphobic. comparing bi womenâs experiences with misogyny and homophobia to a straight womenâs experiences with misogyny and homophobia is biphobic.
trying to create a divide between bi women and lesbians hurts both our communities
we need to be there for each other, because we have so much in common and because no one else will. who else can we rely on? men? straight women? yeah, i dont think so
Hey can I get your general opinion on black cats?
i hope you mean the animal because if you arenât then idk what youâre talking about but black cast are amazing and just as valid (if not more so) than other cats. i used to have one, he was my first pet his name was jake.
Yeah I meant the animal! I have two black cats and theyâre just the best and honestly loving black cats is wlw culture.
honestly ur right and u should say it
hey honestly reclaiming the word âdykeâ was a huge struggle for me as a lesbian and stud & i will recognize that historically, bi women have also been targeted w that slur but like⊠our relationship with it can be very very different and the way conversations about slur reclamation are playing out makes me very uncomfortable.
frankly, i donât care too much abt bi women reclaiming the d slur if they were targeted w it. thatâs not a huge concern of mine. but i really, really do not like the implication that dyke is rarely used in reference to a woman who totally rejects the idea of partnerships with men. because obviously weâre targeted due to our love for women, but itâs ignorant to act as if the use of the d slur does not stem largely from male entitlement and the fact that lesbians are not only interested in women, but are not interested in men.
so again: i donât really care if bi women whoâve been targeted with the word âdykeâ reclaim it, since slur reclamation is very personal and situational, but bi women and lesbians have never been enemies and this conversation should not and cannot be based off of contempt for each other. this was a great opportunity to have a civilized discussion and show love and respect for each other (even if we disagree) but if anything, all weâve done is put each other down while using stereotypes against each other. (i.e calling all lesbians terfs & labeling bi women as being attracted solely to men.) lesbians are not the oppressors of bi women, and bi women are not the oppressors of lesbians.
(also: as a butch woman, itâs increasingly disheartening to see people continue this argument without knowing the history behind the word dyke.)
You can be bisexual and prefer women.
You can be bisexual and prefer men.
You can be bisexual and agender, genderfluid, and any other non-binary identity.
You can be bisexual and prefer partners with nb identities like yours.
You can be bisexual and unsure of what your gender is.
You can be bisexual and feel attraction to some genders like this and others like that.
You can be bisexual and feel no difference at all.
You can be bisexual and have no preference at all.
You can be bisexual and polyamorous, or bi and monogomous.
You can be bisexual and love sex, or want nothing to do with sex.
You can be bisexual and single. You can have never dated anyone.
You can be bisexual and young, or bisexual and old.
You can realize youâre bisexual at any age, with any partner.
Bisexual can look like anyone, bisexuality can be anyoneâs life. Youâre allowed to be bi, youâre allowed to be yourself.
