mcfly july 2025: canada 🇨🇦
did you guys know. i am, in fact, a honorary canadian /silly
fact is, i spent a school year abroad in burnaby, a town near vancouver that happens to be the town one michael j fox spent a bunch of his childhood in! and naturally, i have collected a few pictures that i took when partaking in activities related to bttf >:)
1. first of all, the school i attended literally had a THEATRE NAMED AFTER THE GUY. so that's one

2. not only did i manage to get my hands on his biographies in the bookstore there, i also found these two action figures in an actual store! here in germany, we barely get bttf merch in stores, so that was a very special moment
3. in art class, all my projects turned out to be bttf related somehow. my art teacher was a huge mjf fan and she's even met him in person, so she was my biggest supporter ahfhjsf. this is one of the projects i made! if you haven't guessed, it was during christmas lol (ignore the science book, i was DEFINITELY doing all my homework at home, uh huh)
4. that same december, i logged onto a q&a conference with bob gale that i could finally join because for once it wasn't the middle of the night for me when it was on LOL. he confirmed that doc is like a father to marty :) another memorable quote was "why therapy when you have bttf: the musical?"
5. at fanexpo vancouver, they had this awesome hill valley made out of legos. i went as marty and got a bunch of bttf prints hehe
6. soon, my little "canada-based" bttf collection began growing!! had this display on my suitcase. no i don't want to know how much money i spent. that bttf 3 novel is an item i'm really proud of, though.
7. in may, me and my friend @thespookyparty went to see bttf on the big screen. all three were on, but we unfortunately only could stay for the first two because it got late </3. still remember the chicken noises some guy in the back made whenever the chicken thing was mentioned
8. another art project of mine! my teacher loved this one so much that she wanted to get it to mjf to sign it. like, she was serious about it. unfortunately that didn't work out, rip
9. another big thing that i don't have photos of is the completion of my fic, "until i get home", that happened during that very same year. in fact, i wrote most of it during my stay in canada, and the whole experience of being alone in a strange environment helped me a lot while writing it to be able to relate to marty.
last but not least: i am eternally grateful for my dear bttf friends @pine-killer55 , @bg-sparrow , @whosmurphy , @bri-to-the-future , @nemmet , @styxbugg , @jay-is-writing , @poly-outatime , @mangotortoise and @emmkitt for making the year so memorable. all the roleplays, the memes, the bttf watchparties in which discord would give up whenever johnny b goode came on, the garlic phone games, and all the fic ideas we tossed around (the scarlet fever arc was YOUR fault) - i wouldn't be the same person if it wasn't for all of you, and i'm so glad we connected during that year and are still talking basically every day :)
