About Me (I Guess)

I've been lurking here on Tumblr for a while just trying to figure out how it all works, but I think it's time that I start actually posting and reblogging things instead of just liking them.

So hi! You can call me Eli (all pronouns). Currently in my twenties and trying to get my life together. I love to write and have a lot of fanfic that I've... never posted, but I'm 100% open to fic questions, and I may post on here when/if I have the time. I have a deep-set passion for classic Hollywood (when I tell you Katharine Hepburn was my first crush on an actress...) as well as shows like Murder She Wrote, Perry Mason, Columbo, Good Omens, The Sandman, Rosemary and Thyme, and so many more that I'm probably forgetting. My current film obsessions are The Thin Man movies and the Back to the Future trilogy, and Clue, Delirious, and The Philadelphia Story are my probably top three favorites.

I also listen to a lot of music (or I try to), especially film soundtracks and musicals. I watch probably too much YouTube in my downtime, especially when I'm crocheting (a new hobby I learned recently).

I'm not great at video games, but I've been grinding my way through Hades lately, and should probably get back to Ace Attorney when I have the time.

Queer Books and Authors are at a Breaking Point

Authors, agents, publishers: every part of the industry is seeing the strain of five years of escalating anti-LGBTQ censorship.

When Life Gives You Corpses is a brilliant YA about a cursed praying mantis who falls for a young witch. Yield Under Great Persuasion is a raunchy, but surprisingly sweet story about two men repairing their relationship. Fabulous Bodies is a horror story about a queer rockstar rising from the dead.

This is Where the Future Bleeds is a fantasy set in a vividly imagined land, where two women (who happen to kiss) are the key to healing the broken sky. You're No Better is a story about a teen struggling in the shadow of his murderous parent. Oil on Canvas is about a woman who finds disturbing paintings in the home of her dead mother.

Thinking back to the first story I ever started writing down (I was 7 or 8) about a group of stray cats who, every full moon, took the form of human kids. They actually were human kids, who had been killed (all at different times/by different people). Their bodies were each dumped by the side of the road where a cat had been hit by a car previously, and their souls landed in the cats' bodies. Eventually they all found each other and decided that every full moon, when they shifted, they'd try to solve each other's murders one by one. It was going to be a series, with each book focusing on a different kid's murder mystery. I told my mom about it once, briefly, and she said "Those cat books (warrior cats) are making you creepy."

Hello folks! Its time for the weekly fic rec!

Are you looking for a cozy mystery read with strong found family themes? Characters understanding that they are different but still looking towards healing together, all while solving a murder?

Well look no further than The Same Dead Eyes in the Mirror by that_one_kid. This is a T rated Knives Out fic thats around 24k. It focuses on Jud and Blanc's relationship in a familal way. With later chapters having appearances from Helen and Philip.

It takes place after Glass Onion, but in an Au where Father Langstrom dies before Jud becomes a priest. It does both the mystery, and the conversational parts of the storytelling incredibly well. I highly recommend!
