I've never kept up with any sort of journal or diary in my entire life so we'll see about the longevity of this. I'm a quirky girl. I like lots of things.

Ever do your nails and nothing goes right? I tried to give myself a little manicure last night and it was a disaster. I'd get polish on my fingers. Or I'd finally finish and bump a few nails. Or the polish would get gunky. I must have gone through a dozen cotton balls and painted my nails ten times. And when I was about to give up, I couldn't because the cranberry color I used basically dyed my nails, which also looked terrible. I know, I know. #firstworldproblems.

Also, if you ever use a matte color and think oooh if I put a matte topcoat on as well, it will be suuuuuper matte...um no matte+matte=shiny :)

Right?? It's not easy to get a job and job searching makes me want to cry. Or die. Or both. And it's so terrible how horrible people try to scam /spam job seekers. I don't know how many times I got my hopes up that a company was interested in me for my skillz and general awesomeness, only to find out they are phishing for info or money. Those people can go to hell. I'm looking at you Mike McCarthy from mcsourcer dot com.

I have a job interview tomorrow. My first since moving to Kentucky. “But Bridgetdarling haven’t you lived in Kentucky since August???” Yes. Yes I have. Thanks for the reminder. Getting a job is difficult. So is getting an interview! I've applied to probably 100 jobs by now. I hope it goes well. I’m soooo nervous. Blurgh.

Unemployed. New State.

So I haven't tumblr'ed in a long time. A lot has happened since I last posted. I've gotten engaged and moved to Kentucky. Lexington to be exact. The town is really adorable. There's tons of bars and restaurants and cute shops. I like the idea of it. But it doesn't feel like home. I kinda feel like I'm on a boring vacation. I'm in this new town that I could be shopping in or doing activities...but I'm unemployed. So I can't really spend money frivolously. So mostly I apply for jobs. And spend my days on netflix.

When you are employed, you long for days of lazing around and binging on TV and movies all day. But when you do it EVERYDAY...you get bored. Like really bored. Like you've watched all the episodes of Kitchen Nightmares (Gordon Ramsey rules, btw) bored. Plus I only have my fiance here. Who I love. BUT I need to make friends. I think finding a job would help with the friends. Maybe trying meetup.com or something. 

Okay. So to make me feel better here are some things I like about Lexington. 

1. Old buildings. I love old stuff. Clothes, jewelry, furniture. Everything antique and vintage is great. Lexington has tons of old houses and buildings. 

2. Ale 8 One. This weird soda that is like ginger ale but with a zing. It's pretty good. It's made near where we live.

3. Scenery. It's very pretty here. I hope to go on some hikes this fall. The drive from STL is a pretty nice one. Once you get out of Illinois (which is hideous).

4. Walking Distance. Our apt is close to tons of fun things! The arena (which I will be seeing The Avett Brothers on Nov.23rd), bars, restaurants, parks, farmers market...lots of stuff. But until I get a job, I won't really be able to enjoy.

5. My Fiance following his dreams and shit. I guess that is a positive. He seems to enjoy teaching and his classes. I know this is what he wants to do.

Things I dislike about Lexington:

1. It's not St. Louis. I miss my fam and friends. oooh and St. Louis style pizza. I'd kill for some provel cheese right now.

2. People park really strangely! Like half on the street/half on the sidewalk. Or on their lawn across their sidewalk. Don't get it.

3. Ambulance sirens 24/7. I assume b/c there are a lot of hospitals near where I live.

4. I tried to buy loose potatoes but the only kinds they had were russet and sweet. Wtf man. No Yukon gold?

Sometimes I have these feelings of sadness over the loss of a friendship I once had. I guess we are still friends. Sort of? I probably saw her twice this year. Sometimes we chat. And make plans to hang out (we don't) or we text how much we miss each other (I think we do). But I remember when we first met and how close we were. It seemed sorta like friends soul mates. I never had a friend who I was so instantly 'friend smitten' with. We just kinda understood each other. I remember having long conversations on our hikes about life and our families. We shared everything. If the trees and leaves and birds could talk, I'd probably be pretty embarrassed. We are both busy with various endeavors, our families, our significant others. I'm getting older (my birthday is Sunday. Yikes). Maybe friendships are different in the latter half of your twenties than the beginning. I'm sure that's true. Things are crazy different for both of us now. Like a completely opposite. But before, we were in the same boat. Which is probably why we became friends in the first place. But I really just can't help but be sad about this sometimes.

Side note: I was telling my bf how I wanted to come home/work be over. And he said 'we want you here'-meaning the him and the dog. That made my day a bit brighter.

Pretty Girl from St. Louis*

*Or a title of an Avett Brothers song I wish would be written about me.

On Saturday my boyfriend and I went to the FABULOUS FOX to see the Avett Brothers sing to me for 2.5 hrs. This wasn't my first Avetts concert but every time is incredibly amazing. They played "If It's the Beaches," which is one of the few many Avett Bros songs that can make me cry. They closed the concert with "November Blue" which I had never heard them play before. I guess the nice thing about them is that they have so many songs in their catalog, they can switch it up and make every concert incredibly unique. I like all kinds of music and bands but I've never been touched by music until I began listening to this band. I can't really explain it but the music and lyrics just make my insides very glittery. And my heart just feels like it's overflowing. They make me very emotional. Not bad emotional like when I'm PMSing and yelling at people for no apparently reason. But emotional where I feel like I'm wearing myself inside out for everyone to see my true self. I've never had music affect me so...until listening to the Avetts. The lyrics. The music. The sentiment. The beards. Oh my.

My Dreams are terrifying in the most boring ways

I had this dream last night where my wallet was stolen. I had left my purse and some clothes I got from Target on the street corner. Why I did this, I can't remember, but surprise!! they stole all my credit cards. The thieves left my empty wallet, which was nice because I really like my wallet. It has birds on it. So then I was trying to call all the places I have credit cards with to get them cancelled. But I never got through to a human. But somehow I could see the charges they had already racked up and it was mostly for gas station and fast food purchases. UGH. I woke up feeling so stressed out and worried about getting my shit stolen! I did not sleep well.

THEN I came up with this idea where we all could get a microchip implanted in our arms and when we wanted to buy something or show our ID, our arms would be scanned. I'm sure this is from a movie or news article. But if it's not, I need make sure I get credit for this idea--Unlike my dad who missed out on inventing nicotine gum. If he had gotten his shit together, I'd be an heiress right now.

My Sister Paid Progressive Insurance to Defend Her Killer In Court

I’ve been sending out some impertinent tweets about Progressive Insurance lately, but I haven’t explained how they pissed me off. So I will do that here as succinctly as possible. There’s a general understanding that says, “insurance companies— oh they’re awful,” but since Progressive turned their shit hose on my late sister and my parents, I’ve learned some things that really surprised me.

I’ll try to cleave to the facts. On June 19, 2010, my sister was driving in Baltimore when her car was struck by another car and she was killed. The other driver had run a red light and hit my sister as she crossed the intersection on the green light.

I've been watching a lot of I Love Lucy lately. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT. I have probably 80 episodes on my DVR right now. And more keep recording. There is no way I can even keep up with them at this point. And even though some of the show is obviously dated (the 1950s was a lonnnng time ago), it's still pretty evident how awesome Lucille Ball was. She was hilarious and gorgeous. She wore insane costumes and didn't just let the men do all the physical comedy. And really it was one of the first interracial marriages on TV. I also would love to have Lucy's wardrobe. Seriously.

Anyway, I've learned a lot from watching the show: 1. Always teach your significant other a lesson and/or play tricks on him/her. This is key.

2. Your husband will never let you be in his show.

3. Always have a disguise. Your husband will never recognize you in a wig, right?

4. You get an allowance from your husband. You will almost always go over budget on dresses and fabulous hats.

5. You will dust every day (not sure why this is done daily, and at my house this is only done annually).

6. Lie about how old you. No one will ever be able to check up on that anyway.

A Series of Fortunate Events

I was thinking about all the things that had to happen for my boyfriend and I to meet. I don't believe in destiny or anything. I like to have control of my life and thinking that some mystical power holds my future...eh no thanks. I don't know. Maybe somethings in life are just a bunch of accidents and coincidences.

So how did this happen...My best friend Liz moved in with her college friend, Jess and her sister. Spending time at Liz's new place, led me to become friends with Jess (my super cool fairy godmother)! Jess and I both were single (pretty much all of our friends were in a couple) so we took solace together as the single girls. Jess convinced me to try OKCupid since she was activating her account again and we could do it together. After a few weeks of harassment (loving harassment, of course), I finally made my account. The very next day I had a few messages, but none that interested me (re: scrubs). I looked through some of the profiles and happened across my boyfriend's. He had a beard (*swoon*). His profile made me literally laugh out loud (he's funny). He was starting grad school (smart=sexy ya'll). And one of his pics was him in a Harry Potter sorting hat (sorta misleading as he doesn't like Harry Potter but I'll let that slide).  My roommate basically forced me to message him (she said she'd throw me out and change the locks if I didn't). So I did. He chatted me later that same night. We went out Saturday. Things went well obviously. So within five days, my life changed drastically.

Adding to the list of necessary occurrences, my boyfriend is not even from St. Louis. He moved here less than 2 months prior to us meeting because he was accepted into grad school. He had even been casually seeing someone else right before we met (apparently a crazy girl, but not important).

It's just makes me wonder. How could all those things line up? Meeting Jess. Giving online dating another try (I vowed never to again). Getting up the nerve to message HIM (I usually waited for guys to message me). Him deciding to move to STL when he did. It's just wonderfully weird how those things all occurred at the right moment.
