Hello and welcome to Brightverse, my original superhero universe!

I’m @fayflutter the creator and this is a blog intro for anyone who stumbles into my tiny corner of Tumblr.

What is Brightverse?

Brightverse is my original superhero universe that was inspired by many, many things:

Late 90s-early 2000s cartoons (Justice League, Batman/Superman, Static Shock, The Tick, Teen Titans, Danny Phantom, etc.)

Animes like My Hero Academia, Tiger and Bunny, One Punch Man, Samurai Flamenco, and To Be Hero X

Marvel and DC

The Arrowverse (The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning, Stargirl, The Legends of Tomorrow, etc.)

More modern superhero shows like Invincible, The Tick (2016), and The Venture Brothers (and some aspects of The Boys? Love the concept, It’s just too gory and gross for me 🤢)

And many, many more!

Why is it called Brightverse?

Brightverse is named to be a bright light in a world of dark, gritty, and depressing. With so many edgy and mature takes on the superhero genre, it’s time to go back to the Saturday morning cartoons we treasured.

What can we expect from Brightverse?

So here’s the thing, I’m a writer not an artist. Yes, I do art on my main channel, but it’s…not great when it comes to action or comic book art. So in order to combat this, Brightverse will be mainly drawings but also writings, Pinterest moodboards, Canva pieces, and picrews. I will draw sometimes, but don’t expect masterpieces.

What other creators inspired you to create this?

Here on Tumblr, I was inspired by @zer09ine and his Braveheart universe, @rascalentertainments Super Zeroes, and @else-creates Nobody Can Help You (seriously read it! It’s so good!). Channels like XanderFlicks and his Bullet Boy content as well Nicholas Knight’s Golden Boy vids.

Bio:

Silas is the son of the richest man in New Amity City, the CEO of Caine Industries. From a young age, Silas knew that his family's social status was different from other, that people viewed him different from other kids. Even his classmates treated him differently, their smiles never quite reaching their eyes. No one seemed to like him, they just liked his money. It wasn't until Addison fell into his life that he began to experience real friendship...literally she fell from a tree in the park while attempting to fly like Star Bright.

Being the son of an influential businessman and a brilliant scientist, Silas has a lot of pressure on his shoulders. He is dedicated and driven and very intelligent. He's interested in a wide range of subjects, with science being the one he's most passionate about as it give him a connection to his late mother. His relationship with his father is a distant and rocky one as the man is more interested in his company than his own son.

Being a nerdy kid himself, Silas is interested in sci-fi media like robots, futuristic settings, and exploration of the unknown. He also would be into giant mech robots like from shows/media similar to Transfomers, Gurren Lagann, or Neon Genesis Evangelion.

His biggest fear is that all of his efforts will be for nothing. If he is anything less than perfect, he becomes anxious, leading to a downward spiral. He’s afraid to fall and fail. It's all or nothing for him, anything less is viewed as a failure.

Something strange has been going on at Caine Industries. He swears "The Quake" felt much closer there than anywhere else in the city despite reports that it was felt similarly everywhere. Then there are the mysterious confidential projects, employees going missing, even rumors of multiple skeletons in his own father's closet. He no longer feels safe in a place that he once called home.

Just what is going on at Caine Industries? And what does it have to do with the “pink blur” that Lenore keeps talking about?

Other Info:

-Has a HUUUGE crush on Addison, everyone is aware of it…except Addison (He hasn't quite found the courage to confess to her yet).

-Struggles with the asian side of his identity. With his mother passed away and little family communication from her side, he is disconnected with something that should be his culture. This sometimes makes him feel like a fraud.

-There are moments when his narrow world view can create friction, making socializing difficult. Not only can he not pick up on certain social cues, but his nativity can make him appear rude.

Bio:

Don't be fooled by the dark aesthetic, Lenore is the nicest girl you'll ever meet. A hardcore fan of creepy crawlies, horror movies, video games, and vampire novels, Nori is your go to girl for anything macabre or supernatural. While she may look intimidating, she is actually a kind, thoughtful, and loyal friend. Growing up, Lenore’s passion for the creepy weird the other kids out, making her an outcast. Until Addison moved to her school and the two bonded over Justice Guard. She also keeps up with superhero media as one of her favorite all the time heroes is The Fowl.

Lenore’s always worried that she is too much for people, that her eccentric hobbies are too much for her friends and family. She is afraid of being alone.

When she isn’t watching horror content, she has her own Metube channel where she explores and uncovers the strange rumors in New Amity City. Recently, there’s been sightings of a pink blur and strange threats terrorizing the city.

Though since "The Quake", Addison has been distant. She’s been disappearing at the strangest times, making excuses, and just acting strange. What is going on with Addison?

-Her full name is reference to the Edgar Allen Poe poems, Lenore and Annabel Lee.

-Is a lesbian and daydreams about being swept off her feet by a beautiful vampire lady.

-Has a whole terrarium of spiders in her room, she has named each of them and can tell each of them apart.

-Her uncle is New Amity City's police chief. He spends time with his niece by watching scary movies together, even though the smallest jump scare makes the grown man jump out of his seat.

-Goes all out for Halloween, no one loves the holiday more than Lenore.

-Her family is currently expecting a second kid, she doesn't care if it's a boy or a girl, she's going to be a big sister!

Bio:

Addison lived in a world where superheroes were viewed as nothing more than comic books. A nerdy teenager who can be slightly scatterbrained at times. Due to her single father's job, Addison moved around a lot as a kid, never really having time to form long lasting friendships or connections. Because of this, she's socially awkward, making her the odd outcast. With the few friends she's made in New Amity City, she is like a cheerleader: supportive, easily excitable, and full of energy. Addison is creative and able to think quick on her feet. The girl holds a strong sense of justice and isn't afraid to go out of her way to help others. She isn’t quite sure where she’s headed in life, her friends, her classmates, everyone else seems to know what they want to do, why not her?

Addison believed that superheroes and supervillains were just fiction....until the day New Amity City was turned upside down.

Other Info:

A fangirl who is active on various fandom sites and forums.

Her favorite hero is Star Bright; a confident superheroine with light powers and one of the founders of Justice Guard.

Enjoys cooking with her dad.

It took me awhile to figure out what I wanted her to be and what I wanted her to look like (thank you to everyone on the @braveheartcomic discord server for helping me out with the design). I wanted to announce some big changes to be made to the Brightverse.

The series will no longer take place in the early 2000s but rather in 2025-2026. I just felt the time change made sense with some of the changes I’m making to characters, backstories, and locations.

Halley Gardiner/Star Bright will no longer be the main character of the Brightverse. For the longest time, I’ve felt like a disconnect from her as a character and decided she’d be better off not as the protagonist. She will still be in the Brightverse, but serving a different role.

Even without Star Bright at the center, the name of Brightverse will remain the same. I want it not to be named after a singular character or a hero, but to represent something more. I do have a protagonist in mind and I hope to reveal her soon.

As for the name, I want the Brightverse to be a bright light in a world of dark, gritty, and depressing. Yes, a lot of superhero stories were dark before, but not to the point that it ruins everything about the genre. Then there has been blockbuster flop after flop that makes a person think ‘where did the magic go?’

Where did the magic go? Where did our imagination and creativity go? Our selflessness? Our ability to do the right thing? Did it fade away with every Saturday morning? Our eyes glued to the tv as the recent episode of Batman, Static Shock, The Spectacular Spider-Man or for some, My Hero Academia, illuminated the screen?

So Brightverse isn’t just a name, it’s a promise. To be a bright light in a world that has become artificial and stale.

What’s a girl without her BFFs? Meet Yue Huiling and Chelsea Murray, Halley’s best friends!

Bio:

Halley's oldest friend and member of the art club. Yue and her family moved to the United States and to Cassiopeia Bay when she was little. Back then, her English wasn't great and the other kids made fun of her for it. Halley stood up for her, threatening to beat up the bullies, and the two have been inseparable ever since. Yue is a big romantic, falling in love very easily and very often. Though due to her low self esteem, she often crushes from afar. Yue enjoys drawing, taking inspiration she gets while visiting family back home. Even though she’s extremely talented, she hasn’t displayed any of her artworks in contests, worried that she’s just an amateur. Halley tries to encourage her to at least sign up for one, but has been unsuccessful.

Trivia:

She is obsessed with everything girly; reading all of the pop culture magazines, listening to popular music, celebrities, and the latest trends.

Has a tamagotchi named Crikki II that she co-parents with Halley (don't ask what happened to to Crikki I).

Bio:

Chelsea is Cassopeia Bay’s resident surfer and daredevil in the waves. She met Halley and Yu later when they were in middle school but became fast friends. Though she is laid back and easy going, she is stubborn and has a tendency to recklessly surf into dangerous waters, claiming to not feel a thing (girl, you’re bleeding and have a concussion, please go to the ER now). She has two mothers: the marine biologist, Dr. Christine Murray and another who vanished when she was a baby. She has no clue who her other mother is and Dr. Murray doesn’t like talking about it. All she has of her is the seashell necklace that she left behind.

Trivia:

-Has a crush on one of the junior lifeguards.

-Was once bitten by some sea creature when she was first surfing out, this however did not scare her from continuing to surf, claiming that that’s just nature.

-Due to her mother’s job, Chelsea knows ALOT of facts about sea life.

-Once tried to bring a live octopus for show and tell…it did not end well.

Bio:

Middle schooler by day, Star Bright's secret partner also by day, Aaron is Halley's soon-to-be stepbrother. Aaron was there on that fateful night with the meteorite when Halley first gained her powers. He was also the one who persuaded her to become a real superhero.

His parents constantly fought when he was younger, so Aaron dove into the world of comic books and superheroes to distract himself. When his parents divorced, Aaron went with his father, Dr. Kent Anderson, and they moved to Cassiopeia Bay. 

He's easily excited by anything and everything comic book related. Aaron doesn't understand why Halley doesn't lean more into the super-heroics, with her reasoning that this is the real world, not one of his books. He often wonders what might have been if he was the super powered one instead of Halley. Even without powers, Aaron still tries to help Star Bright, though he often gets in over his head. He still tries to help however he can, after all, she's still his family under the mask.

Trivia:

In previous Brightverse concepts, Aaron was the main character before I decided to make him Halley's brother (sorry buddy, maybe you’ll get your own spin off?)

Aaron's name is an alliteration similar to other comic book heroes; Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Wally West, Billy Batson, etc.

Aaron's favorite superhero is Sol-Sentinel, a superhero who wields the power of the sun.

His family used to live in New Amity City.

Halley Gardiner/Star Bright

So in 2025 when the Superman movie came out, I returned to my old superhero universe and drew a picture of my old oc, Star Bright. She was your classic super-girl; super strength, super flight, invulnerability, etc. She was one of the first in what I would later dub the Brightverse.

Now Star Bright has gone through several iterations, alterations, and character rewrites; ranging from an alien raised on earth, the clone of a dead superhero, an human/alien hybrid, and even a magical girl.

Now I've finally finished and ready to unveil 2026 Star Bright.

Bio:

Halley isn't what you would call superhero material. She isn't a nerd or an unpopular outcast. She doesn't have a tragic backstory or dead parents. Halley is a cheerleader, apart of the popular crowd, and likes to hang out at the mall with her friends. She's stubborn, loyal to her friends, and occasionally has a smart mouth.

Halley and her mom had always done their annual spring break camping trip together, only this year was different. This time, her mom's fiancée, was joining them along with his young son, Aaron. The blonde didn't like these strangers butting in on their lives and she definitely didn't like playing babysitting to some kid, especially out in the middle of the woods. She just knew this was going to be the worst camping trip ever.

Everything was fine until on the last night of their trip something fell from the sky and crashed near their camp site. Being curious, Aaron decided to check it out and Halley chased after him. When the two found the thing, it turned out to be a meteorite, a glowing meteorite.

Aaron tried to move closer to it, but Halley stopped him, stating they should get back to camp and tell their parents. Aaron argued that he just wanted a closer look and that it was fine. While the two argued, the meteorite began to glow brighter and brighter until bursts of light shot out of it. Halley pushed Aaron out of the way, but she wasn't so lucky. Only Instead of dying, her body absorbed the light.

When she woke up seconds later, she found herself with the strength of an army, faster than a speeding train, and able to withstand bullets.

She originally wanted nothing to do with her new found powers, until Aaron convinced her to become a real superhero. She really has no idea what she is doing and often has to rely on the middle schooler for help, most of his advice coming from his comic books. While she isn't a fan of the mask, the costume, or fighting, she does like the feeling she gets helping the people of Cassiopeia Bay.

Trivia:

She hates the dumb blonde jokes. She's actually a straight A student.

Halley is agile and flexible due to her cheerleading training.

Star Bright can't fly. When she attempted to, she fell face first and shattered the concrete.

Her prototype suit was her cheerleading uniform.
