Dance Theatre of Harlem dance company is back and better than ever!
The trailblazing dance company returns to the stage after a nine year hiatus, during which DTH was able to financially stabilize their organization. With their current season, DTH builds on their rich history as a dance institution and performing company. DTH continues to change perceptions of ballet in showing it is an arena where dancers of color can excel and make significant contributions to the artform.

Legendary New York City Ballet dancers Tanaquil LeClercq and Jacques d'Amboise strapped on their boots and pointe shoes to bring the Old West to the stage in George Balanchine's ballet, Western Symphony. Premiered by the New York City Ballet in 1954, Western Symphony featured dancing to orchestrations by Hershy Kay of American folk songs.

Gogo Ballerina sets were by Jeff Koons (giant heart anyone?) and the costumes were by painter David Salle! In the immortal lyrics of Jimi Hendrix, "Wild thing, you make my heart sing"...and want to dance of course!
During a studio visit with performance artist Ryan McNamara, we get a glimpse of his first dance lesson ever with his ballet instructor, none other than American Ballet Theatre Principal Dancer and the first American to join the Bolshoi Ballet as Premier Danseur, David Hallberg, as a part of his project Make Ryan a Dancer (2010), which required McNamara to take 104 days of dance lessons in public, culminating in a performance that took place throughout MoMA P.S.1.

Let your inner swan soar! Pacific Northwest Ballet wants you!
To celebrate their 40th anniversary, Pacific Northwest Ballet is performing Swan Lake, choreography by PNB's Founding Artistic Director Kent Stowell, and they want you to join in the fun by sending them your rendition of "Swan Lake arms" to be a part of a video montage. They will be accepting videos all the way up to Opening Night of Swan Lake on April 12th, 2013.

Christopher Walken doesn’t want more cowbell…he wants your pointe shoes! Or at least he did back in 2007 for a piece by Armitage Gone! Dance, a dance company with a tagline of “What happens when punk goes en pointe,” you can only imagine those pointe shoes were put to some good use!
Balletcollective, formerly known as Satellite Ballet and Collective, was featured in CR Fashion Book Issue 2, inspired by dance, in a fashion photo spread by photographer Paul Maffi entitled Dance the Dance, highlighting their "free-spirited inventiveness" and "unconventionality." Maffi also featured dancers from Balletcollective performing choreography by the collective's director and New York City Ballet dancer Troy Schumacher in A Dance Film for CR Fashion Book.
Bandaged toes and fur stoles have their place in the launch of former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld's CR Fashion Book Issue 2 inspired by dance and most strongly by the art form of ballet. Paris Opéra Ballet étoile and their first female in-house choreographer Marie-Agnès Gillot performs a pas de deux with Paris Opéra Ballet principal dancer Vincent Chaillet during the celebrations.
